Midseason positives

Rodgers and the pass rush have probably been the biggest positives, though the pass rush has been a little too "feast or famine" to this point.

Generally speaking, the Steelers have the same issues they've had for years revolving arounding the OL and DBs, despite all the money and draft capital spent on those areas.

There has been some improvement from the OL, but there is still not enough consistency with the running game while Rodgers, Tomlin and Arthur Smith still do not seem comfortable with passing plays that take longer to develop, and opposing teams know that, often sitting on the quicker stuff.

With that being said, I think Smith has done a good job of compensating by scheming up shorter throws with yards after catch opportunities, particularly for Metcalf.

Take away the Bengals game and he is averaging 3.5 yards a carry in 7 games he has broken 50 yards 3 times. cincy 127. packers 62. browns 52. 4 of 7 games he failed to achieve 3.5 ypc. colts. 1.9 ypc, pats 2.6 ypc, seahawks and jets 3.4 ypc. the cincy game at 7.9 ypc has skewed his stats.

Sorry just not a fan of JW. he is not a feature back. I will be shocked if he hits a 1000 yrds this year and smart money says he will not have a 4 ypc avg.

everything else in your post is spot on but I just don't think Warren will even match the numbers Harris put up let alone beat them. not saying that we should have extended Harris I just wish we would have got an upgrade via trade or FA not give Warren more money to put up the same or maybe even worse numbers than Najee.
I’m following what you’re laying down man.
Number 30s a nice complementary back in the league.
They don’t have much choice now…they are who they are at that position.
If I was the coaching staff, I would seriously consider giving the rookie more snaps in the upcoming weeks ahead.
At the worst, number 20s statistics will somewhatmirror what we’re seeing now out of that position.
At the best, we will see some marked improvement in our success rate when we run the football.

For the money he's being paid, DK needs to start turning his 4 targets and 2 catches for 6 yards into at least 10 yards.

And stop being a dumbass with the PF penalties

If GP had pulled a stunt like that in the GB game there would be at least 2-3 threads dedicated to his dumbassery

Not sure why this overpaid WR gets a pass

Mid season positives:

QB: Stafford has an easy contract for the Rams to move on from next year and seeing Rodgers success in the offense is contemplating the Steelers as his next stop. He’s never won the illustrious Tomlinship, should be a motivating factor…and the Steelers are a nice retirement home.
RB: The Steelers have enough draft capital to make a move for a top RB next year after standing pat at the trade deadline…enough to go get a playmaker like James Cook!
WR: With GP only on a 1 year rental for the Cowboys after a boomerang throw he can be back to fix that WR2 void…assuming Aiyuk isn’t in the picture.
TE: Washington emerging as the best pass catcher on the team!!! Those hands are crazy good.
LT: Broderick really stepping up his game as blindside protector, although he has been a bit low in tackles the last couple.

The biggest bright side is 5-3 actually has them with a 2 game lead cuz the rest of the division has been soooo pathetic.

They are in the driver’s seat with minimal injuries, the young OL gelling, an OC/QB combo that is efficient and putting points on the board, and the sieve of a defense at least seems to have the turnover rain dance steps figured out as they are pouring in when facing good teams.

This has the potential for a Tomlinship +1

The indicators for winning this season have been turnovers and sacks. The Steelers are #3 in the NFL for sacks and #3 in giveaway/takeaway.

In their 5 wins they have averaged 4.6 sacks and +2.4 in giveaway/takeaway. In their 3 losses they have averaged 1.67 sacks and -1 in giveaway/takeaway.

I think they can beat anyone if they’re getting sacks and turnovers and vulnerable if they’re not.

He had three straight games averaging over 4ypc. It wasn't just the Bengals game. He works very well in the jumbo package. When they were not running that the lanes were clogged.

We SHOULD NOT have let Najee go...

But on to the positive thoughts:

1. Coach Tomlin is out HC (this might break the board)
2. A-A Ron is absolutely making the offense better than it had been since Ben retired
3. Overall, the OL is keeping Father Time upright and out of the ice tube and/or hospital
4. Simplifying the defense has the entire defense looking like a real NFL defense and not a bunch of over paid players
5. The team very well could still upgrade the defense by adding Samuels and cutting Slay

It seems to me one of the stupider coaching moments of the year was up 16-6 against the Packers Warren only touched the ball 3 times after half.

Never! Never ever compare Mike Tomlin to The Emperor Chaz! I don't care how many wins Tomlin has.....he will never! NEVER EVER be better than Chuck Noll!
Shades will never have 4 SB wins.

Aaron Rodgers is tied for third in TD passes with 17. No where in the top 20 for passing yards with 1692. Tied for 17th in interceptions with 5. But it’s working. They are scoring, albeit not as much as they should. It’s an improvement, and they are scoring enough to win most games. Just need the defense to keep their end of the bargain.
Season is only halfway over but who would have thought that we'd have a better record at this point than the Chefs?

he had three games out of seven that were 4+ yards per carry what difference does it make if they were in a row? Najee also ran into those clogged lanes, including this year Harris has had three years in a row averaging 4. 0 or 4.1 yrds per carry. Najee also had a 1000 yrds or more in his first four years. look at the list of players that accomplished this feat and the overall careers they had.

All I am saying is we could have had Harris one more year on a rookie deal paying about what they are paying warren. I think it was stupid to trade him, when we could of still had that one two punch. I would like to know one thing Warren is doing this year that is Better than what Najee did last year.

Didn’t even trade Najee
Let him walk after not exercising his option

The Steelers have spent a lot of draft picks on DBs, but not a lot of draft capital. Only JPJ and Minkah were acquired with high value picks. The rest since 2020 have been day 3. The results match the investment.

I don’t get this fresh ,old love of Najee. If Najee proved anything at all in his 4 years here,it was that the RB position could be improved upon. Warren showed flashes many, many times. I can’t fault them for trying to improve the position. Which is why we also drafted the rookie. Don’t forget Warren’s pass catching. Now I’m not sure Warren is the answer yet,it was clear Najee wasn’t. Both not being the answer might also be true. I have no idea yet what we have in the rookie.

No and stop.

The ONLY difference between Naj and Warren is 'cut back ability'.

Warren does have an advantage of playing behind an OL that has played together for multiple seasons with better overall talent up front AND a QB that can keep defenses out of the box because of his high football IQ.

If Naj was getting 1000 yards running behind turnstiles and playing with less than stellar QBs - imagine what his season would have looked like this year here???

And BTW - his pass pro, catching from the backfield and ball security are all better than Warren's...

He's gone but he's definitely missed (IMO).

let me disagree here in the boldened part, warren is the better 3rd down RB between both. Little honey badger is a Great pass blocker and is very good in YAC. THere's a reason he always was the 3rd down back ahead of Najee, he is better at that.

From my point of view it’s not so much “love of Najee” but a smart financial move. The 5th year option was affordable and all the player did was consistently hit 1000 yards per season.

How’s that endeavor for 1000 going for the change up back Warren? 8 games in 404 yards, only needs 596 more over the next 9. Oddly he’s a 4.1 ypc back now that’s he’s the lead back, something Najee was always criticized for.

Keeping Najee would have eliminated the need to waste a 3rd on KJ in the past draft as well, a back who has done next to nothing after firmly putting himself in Mike’s doghouse on the heels of one of the most bone headed plays in recent memory.

Sure we could do better than Najee
Could also do much worse
Remember mediocrity is the standard
Najee was better than mediocre
It just would have been a smart financial move imo

Creating holes on a roster when a team is trying to crack open a window for a singular playoff victory to break a streak wasn’t too well thought out.

I like Warren, he’s a great RB2
Gainwell is a nice RB3
Who knows what KJ is?

Point is this team needs a RB1
Najee was at least a mediocre RB1

Now they’re in position to need a QB, RB1 and WR2 next draft as well as CB and S help…probably some LOS as well. Seems ez enough

Morning men’s,
I think the debate here regarding who’s better, 22 or 30?
It’s kinda like debating which beer is better, Miller light or Bud Light?
Does it really matter?

Bud light is awful it’s the Mike Tomlin of beers

Tastes like **** going down and gives me a headache

Crappy *** rice beers

Idk. I liked the guy, but there was no fear by defenses that Najee was gonna break a long one. Warren has shown he can do that a little. I think you have to have that threat in a running back today. Not sure if the ground and pound works today.

Bull-**** with your” no and stop” crap. Good lord. I have no idea who you think you are. If he wasn’t from Alabama you wouldn’t give a flying ****. You were the one going on and on and on that we should draft him. And then throughout his career making excuse after excuse after excuse after excuse for his career. You were wrong. Get over it.
If that’s what you think the supposed #1 running back using your first round pick’s career should be that’s your prerogative. I have higher expectations.
“ No and Stop”……sounds exactly like what happened most of the time when he plowed into the defensive line.

Miller Lite does that to me too. Yuengling Flight doesn't. But if I'm gonna do some beer drinkin', I ain't worried about calories.

Both of you need a “lift” up in life.

Warm Hamms & cold PizZa……………………………. Breakfast of champions !!!!!
