Mason Rudolph

I believe in him,. I think he will surprise. Replace Ben? Not sure. Maybe when Ben hangs them up, but it would be something very special to retire Ben by his abilities. I just want to see us compete. I'm tired of the Tomlin mediocre. (Opps. Sorry for the coaching reference.)

I don’t think Mason will be a world beater, but I think he will have a serviceable season. 20-25 TD, 10-15 INT, 2200-2600 yards. I think we will get about 4-6 wins. Unfortunately I think the defense will continue to let us down, and the offense just won’t be able to overcome that deficiency.

Fun fact. His first name is actually Brett. Brett Mason Rudolph III.

Mason does not have the arm to squeeze it between defenders. He needs to watch the sideline throws and outs.

As I said before he has a similar style to Tom Brady.

He might surprise. The defense will have to pick it up and with the joker out at FS could get better soon with Fitzpatrick in.

Tomlin previews 49ers matchup ‘in eye of the storm’

SANTA CLARA – Here are the highlights of Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s media conference call ahead of Sunday’s game against the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium:

What has this week been like to get Mason Rudolph ready, mentally?

“From a mental preparation standpoint, one reason we have a great deal of comfort and he had a great deal of comfort, he’s approached each day as if he’s a starter and has brought that level of urgency to his preparation. … He’s going to be getting the physical reps and and is going to be the starter and is no preparing as if he’s the starter.”

What did you like about Mason to give him the job of Josh (Dobbs)?

“It’s just based on performance. We didn’t give him the job, he earned it. He had a consistent high level of performance that distinguished himself against those he was competing against and really the decision was easy.”

People are writing you off at 0-2, no franchise quarterback, going across country to play a 2-0 team. Does part of you enjoy this adversity as seen in other people’s eyes?

“I don’t care of many people’s eyes and things of that nature, man We are used to living in the eye of the storm in this business at this level. I do enjoy the challenges and adversity that this game presents, so from that standpoint it does create an urgency that’s a good fuel. But in terms of perceptions and what people are saying outside of our organization, it’d be tough for me to care less.”

What is the early plan for safety Mikah Fitzpatrick and his role Sunday?

“We’re going to base that on how he digests what we do and his ability to execute at a high level. We are going to give him practice reps and let that be our guide as we push through the week.”

What are your perceptions of the 49ers?

“First of all they create a great deal of negativity on defense. Man, they’re getting turnovers and scoring points. Boy that makes you a tough, tough outfit to beat. On the other side, they’re running the ball extremely well. They’re not behind the chains. They’re controlling situational football and that makes you a tough unit to beat. Collectively, it’s pretty clear why they’re undefeated at this point.”

I think Ben's season high for TDs is about 25.

I love the way Mason already slides in the pocket to avoid pressure, like a vet.

So is he Tom Brady or is he a weak armed backup who can't throw outside the numbers? I know you pride yourself on being right about these players years later so I figured you'd want to clarify if you actually think Mason is going to be good because that answer seems like you are straddling the fence and you'd never do that.

he means Mason will be good, but he wouldn't be shocked if he was bad. he says if Mason is bad that it was obvious, though he could also be very good.

Coochspeak: (v) - use a lot of words to say nothing, but everything.

He really is the gift that keeps on giving.

I think Ben's season high for TDs is about 25.

You having a brain fart Cope? Ben got 32 in 2007 and 36 just last season.

You have to derate those numbers because some of them were strictly receiving TD’s, and a few were because of Tomlin’s shear brilliance.

looking at the drafts from 18, 19, and projecting 20, I think Rudolph is as good a prospect as nearly any.

Last year I liked Darnold the most. He had the best mix of talent and pro style experience. Next I liked Josh Allen for his tremendous talents, his arm and his mobility although I saw him as a bit of a project.

I would put Rudolph next after them. I had no interest in a running QB like Lamar Jackson and I hated Josh Rosen. I never saw what the hype was about with him on the field and then mix in his pompous attitude and the fact he grew up with a silver spoon, I had no interest at all in him.

Looking at the 19 class first rounders
Kyler Murray - he’s in a system where he will throw a ton and put up stats but he is very short and that will hurt him at times. I would not have drafted him.
Daniel Jones - not a fan. He’s the guy who looks great when he’s protected and the first read is open but when **** hits the fan, I think he sucks.
Haskins - he’s a thrower. Just never looked like a natural passer. He does have a good deep ball but I think he’s going to always be erratic.

2020 projected 1st rounders
Tua - i’m always skeptical of spread QBs on top teams because it’s so easy for them.
Herbert - i’ve seen him play and he’s talented but just seems to be missing something. I think he’s a big project.
Fromm - he’ll be good but not great. A blah prospect. Similar to Daniel Jones for me.

What’s the point? It’s that of all those guys listed the only 2 guys I would absolutely want over Rudolph are Darnold and Josh Allen. Based on raw upside, i’d take Murray and Tua as well but neither could have been drafted by the steelers so they aren’t worth discussing.

The point is that some think the Fitzpatrick trade has somehow cost the Steelers a franchise QB. I disagree. The only guys I see better than Rudolph are guys the steelers could never have drafted.

I've liked him since we drafted him. I'm a huge BB fan but that doesn't stop me from wanting Rudolph to kick ***. Welcome to starting Mason. Now go kick some ***.

Steelin', I can't help but think you're a guy when I first read your kick-*** posts. Then when I remember you're of course a girl, it's even more kick-***.

A lady of course, but you know what I mean

I played tackle football with the boys at lunch through sixth grade. We moved to another town for seventh grade. On the first day of school I walk out after lunch and ask the guys "So where do you play football at lunch?" The response? We dont play football at lunch. In shock and horror I said "What do you do then?!?" Oh I dont know stand around and talk. I'm like there's a great stretch of grass over there. Come on let's play! Nah, they werent interested in playing football with me. ;) Their girlfriends all hated me lol.

I had two younger brothers and was the toughest kid on our block. Even tougher than Billy Pierce.
