Mason Rudolph.....

If I had to say a negative about Mason it would be his arm strength. Can he make all the throws with the required zip on the ball. Wexell had a report he considered him the weakest arm out of the 4 on the roster.

But then you hear he throws a nice deep ball.

So it will be those outside throws, that he doesn't get too many INTs.

Or get the WR killed waiting for the ball.................................

Lol, we aren't talking about the No.1 overall pick and generational prospect in Andrew Luck here, we are talking about Mason Rudolph.

yep at this point it is only wishful thinking despite anything you read.

We can be encouraged, but without pads without opponents going 100 MPH in a game time situation. It will remain a unknown.

Rudolph could just as easily bust or become nothing more than average.

I mean I like his potential and reports just as much as the next guy.

But until we see it translate into games that matter.

It will remain wishful thinking.
 
Ben is currently 36 years old.
Ben has 2 years left on his current contract.
So Ben will be 38 when this contract ends.
This gives Rudolph two full years of clipboarding, film studying, getting reps ( hopefully as the 2 ), picking brains, etc.
IF Rudolph can show he belongs, then this might work out well for all parties involved.
And IF we were to win the 7th in the next 2 years, Ben may want to ride off into the sunset ala Jermone at 40.
Lot of IFs, but the ingredients are there for a possible nice smooth transition.
But everything is on Rudolph's shoulders, first and foremost, to make any of this possible.
Rudolph has to show he can ball with the big boys.

Ben is a very competitive person. He wants to win more games and super bowls. If he still good at age 38, he'll play on. He could also free up salary cap space in 2019 if the Steelers need it by signing an extension.

The Rudolph pick is excellent. I think he's a very good prospect, and if he can improve the velocity and speed on his passes a bit, say like Brady did, we might have something special.

The pick also motivated Ben, he's done playing games with the media with his wait and see approach for each season, now he says he's playing for a while.

If the Steelers don't sign Pouncey and others in 2 years, Ben very well may hang them up. Ben loves his line.

The Steelers did just fine without Pouncey for an extended period of time with no name free agents.

Centers tend to break down sooner.

I do not think Pouncey will be giving a long contract near franchise value for his position. The top centers drafted 1-2 years before him are retiring or their last legs, and Pouncey has had some lower body injuries.

As long as both of our tackles and DeCastro ( Key to our running game ) are healthy and signed, Ben will be fine. Gilbert is the priority to re-sign.

With his injuries he may never reach his full potential. A obvious talent, but that injury past is significant. And a big question mark moving forward.

Are you serious? Andrew Luck was considered the best quarterback prospect in decades when he came out, which made it much easier to move on from Manning. Rudolph isn't even in the same area code as Luck was coming out and early reports are that he has the weakest arm in mini camp.

THE point i'm making is just because he was considered the ULTIMATE bestest ever, he didn't amount to jack ****. What is said about someone doesn't mean anything unless it can be proven on the field and excuses are not proof. SORRY for Andrew Luck but the cards didn't fall his way to greatness, for what ever the reason. HYPE and reality can be two different things as here in Andrew Luck's case. Could he come back.............maybe but unlikely he will be a world beater and live up to all the HYPE he has garnered.

I'm saying history is not on his side for Ben to continue being Ben at 38.
Yes, there are exceptions to the rule, and CURRENTLY, Ben isn't showing signs of decay.
And as great as Ben has been for us for 15 years, father time is undefeated.
I'd rather let go before having to watch the decline and wheels falling off, then to hold on too long and live in regret.
Let the Seahawks have their washed up Franco Harris and the Panthers have their washed up Greg Lloyd.
Both AWESOME players for us, but would not have wanted to watch the final years they ended up playing in black n yellow.
Not in this day and age of the hard cap.

And don't underestimate Fichner's influence. He turned Landry Jones into a serviceable NFL backup, after starting with a guy who absolutely did not belong on an NFL field.

Still pushing your BS agenda with Pouncey. Steelers did fine without him for the 2013 season? Sure, but he followed up with an All-Pro season in 2014.

All linemen have injuries. Pouncey has played with them and through them. How many games did Pouncey miss besides the 15 in 2013? Five.
Five games in seven years dipwad. And of those games missed were probably week 16 games.

He is a perennial pro-bowler and 2 time All-Pro. In his 8th year.

You are a better colorer with your coloring book, than a player evaluator. Stick with it.

I don't understand the absolute hatred some have for Pouncey. There's certainly a fairly large segment of the fans and sports writers (especially PFF) that don't value the guy at all. On the inside, it seems as though his teammates, coaches, and management all love Pouncey and look at him as one of the leaders of the team.
