Report: Raiders Fear Martavis Bryant Is Facing Suspension

ByAlex Kozora

Not only did the Oakland Raiders give up a 3rd round pick to acquire Martavis Bryant, they may have done it to pick up a receiver facing another suspension. According to a reportfrom the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Raiders fear Bryant will soon face discipline from the league. The report writes:

“The Raiders fear potential NFL discipline might be imminent for wide receiver Martavis Bryant, sources said Thursday, inciting internal uneasiness at the conclusion of an otherwise encouraging spring workout program.

Multiple team officials declined comment as they left for a weekslong break before training camp, but they acknowledged the club is awaiting final word on the situation. It is believed to pertain to the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.”

The article states it’s unknown if the suspension would be for a failed test. A test a player doesn’t show up for is also considered a failure and strike against, per league policy.

Bryant, of course, has had a troubled past with the league. He’s been suspended twice since getting drafted in 2014, missing the first month of 2015 and then suspended for the entire 2016 season. It’s not totally clear how long another suspension could cause him to miss but it’s certainly possible he’d be facing another season-long ban. Bryant is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Pittsburgh dealt away Bryant on the first night of the NFL Draft, to the surprise of many, and to hear Kevin Colbert tell it, the surprise of the organization. Colbert insisted they weren’t actively shopping Bryant but the Raiders made too good of an offer to pass up. The Steelers drafted WR James Washington in the second round as his replacement.

If the news is true and Bryant is facing his third suspension, it’s a huge win for Pittsburgh, who were already coming out looking good when the trade was first announced.

I just read the article. Wow! That trade keeps looking better and better. Selfish and dumb.

Enjoy Oakland or Las Vegas or wherever you’re from! Raaaaaaaaaaiders! LOL!

He must not want to play all that badly.

He had every bit of a opportunity to fix his troubled pass. It even carried out onto the football field.

His burst mysteriously disappeared after a year layoff, which to me screamed of not putting in the effort, with his mindset being elsewhere. Perhaps not being able to smoke his addiction.

Steelers had a up-close look-see at that mindset. We can point to that they weren't going to resign him for the trade reason. But his unreliability had to be on the front shelf front aisle for them to think about. And that problem was outdated, time to restock. Which they did, obviously looking like just in the nick of time.

What a complete dumbass! The league is only a year or so from allowing marijuana just like many other big companies are starting to.

No ****?

Well the Steelers front office look like geniuses for dumping Bryant now. We got a 3rd Rounder and traded up for a 7th rd pick to get Mason Rudolph our QB of the Future. WOW....he's another Josh Gordon. DUMB ***!

I think his AMOZONIAN doctor forgot to tell him that the "poison frog" treatment stays in your system a L-O-N-G time................!!!!!!!

What a flucking MORON..................

Does anyone here think the RAIDERS gave him a drug test prior to the trade deal ?????

PS I wonder if M.Bryant was, in his previous life, the parrot in cheech & chong. You know the one that chong was trying to teach "wantA get high,....wanta get high,....wantA get high"
then reincarnated as Matavious the football player

Wow. If true, I gotta conclude that this life, and the millions that come with it, is just not what he wants. If you truly want the $, you find a way

We were lucky to trade him. He looks done. A sad case as he had pro bowl ability and could have made well over 20 million dollars playing football.

Talk about a guy who just doesn't ******* get it. I mean, I think the rule is stupid, stupid as **** actually, but dems da rules, and if you wanna play a game and make millions doing it, you can't have the weed. Period. That being said, he was **** last year, and I was glad we moved him regardless, I had high (pun intended) hopes for him when I saw him his first season. I was watching a game with our daughter (die hard Steeler fan, btw, gotta raise em right) and she saw him drop a pass, and said "why is he out there?". A few plays later he catches one and just runs past defenders like they are in quicksand, I said "That's why, once he puts it all together this guy is going to be literally unstoppable". Well, I had no idea the one to keep him from putting it all together was going to be MB himself. ******* dumbass.

Addition by subtraction. We're better off without him.

The drama, absolutely 100% yes. His skills as a football player will be missed but there is a reason we've drafted WRs in the 2nd round two years in a row.
