Just noticed something about the Ravens new first round draft pick. He's tiny. Like really tiny. Here's how he lines up against former Steeler hopeful diminutive receivers.

Chris Rainey 5'8" 180lb

Dri Archer 5'8" 173lb

Marquise Brown 5'9" 166lb

He is ultra small compared to the previous 2. I see him in a jersey and he looks like a high schooler. He's an inch taller, yet 7 & 14lbs lighter than the other 2.

Compare that with Tavon Austin, who looks solid in his build

Tavon Austin 5'8" 174lb

Tavon has played for 6 seasons, and he's still under 2000 total yards receiving. He's still a playmaker and carries the ball a lot, as well is handle return duties. Nearly has as many career carries as receptions.

Brown does none of those things. Never returned in college and only had 3 rushing attempts for zero yards.

I think Brown will get punished off of the ball in this league, and it will lead to injuries.

And Steeler's fans were upset about wasting a 3rd round comp pick. Just wait until Ravens realize they wasted a first rounder...

Very interesting indeed!!!

Something tells me Coach will have some 'valuable' input on the topic...

rats have a run of bad WR selections. For some time now. They see bloodline connection, but in this case not sure that will help as he has already shown injury concerns. Wait to the big boys jam him.

Perhaps Boykin shows to be a keeper when all said and done.............

Another question - how many WR's have come back successfully from Lisfranc surgery (his NFL hasn't even started and he had that surgery last year)...

Great informative find / post. I know Dri /Rainey/ LOGAN (only one with a little livelihood) wear all to small in my opinion. Dri was the most QUESTIONABLE pick in my mind. He ONLY had straight speed and tripped on grass blades.

I'm glad the rats took Brown and more than likely wasted their pick, near anything to demise the rats is good with me.

Salute the nation

Dri pick still doesn't bother me. The player i would have rather they took we got in the next round.

At seasons end, the year we cut dri, he would have been top 10 in KR return yards. Maybe top 5, but i can't remember, for sure.

IMO, dri, specifically, was a sign of terrible coaching. I believe he was told to bring the ball out of the EZ, no matter what. He then got killed before the 25 yard line (20 yard return, though!, which inflated his stats) because our special teams aren't special and couldn't block for ****..

Anyway, there were a few (and far between) plays where he was used properly. TD that was called back on a phantom holding, and some pass plays where you could see an extra paying attention to what he was doing.

The first ruined him as a returner. Due to the too few times he was used, the second flies in the face of what seemed the purpose of drafting him.

And TMC was the one that brought up how specific sizes of receiver, you should never draft. I think he stated something like under 5/10 and under 175, you have a minuscule chance of success in this league.

Steve Smith was short at 5'9" but stocky as hell at 195lbs.

And DIC Stephan Logan was 5'6" 180, but he was only a returner in the NFL. He was more of a RB in the CFL, but mainly a returner.

We will find out real soon. We see him twice a year so long as he is a Rat. Heart is one trait that can't be measured. Problem with heart is at that size it can get you maimed playing against much larger men.

Hopefully Hollywood don't follow his cousin.... even if he does , he plays for the Ravens ..... so could be win win for all of us on this board as well

with Kordell Jackson throwing to him, he may be good.

Stephan Logan was only 5'6", holy crap.

TMC, myself and a few others got blasted for daring to say he was a horrible pick. That was one long thread. I think TMC left after that.

I already told you all the day he was picked Archer sucked.

I’m more interested to watch Murray all 5’9” of him. Is he a future bust or not?

Since you rang, I'll tell you what you need to know.

Height doesn't mean as much at running back. Barry Sanders and. E. Smith for example. At receiver it does matter. If you 5'9" tall or less, you'd better have world class speed/quickness, and good hands. In other words, no Troy Edwards please. The Steeelers have wasted their share of first round picks too, the ones I said would suck.

And yes I thought Austin would be a bad first round pick Yahoos like Jim Wexell actually wanted Austin in round one for the Steelers.

M. Brown does have world class speed, but his QB is a terrible passer and fumbled the ball 12 times last year. As such he went to the wrong team. At 160 pounds, I think he'll be injury prone too.

I found two teams willing to trade a 6'3" tall 216 lb WR with 4.35 speed for M. Brown in a heartbeat.
Arizona just dropped Kevin White. Talk about a let down career for a guy drafted 7th overall in 2015 by the Bears.

After looking over his stats Marquise Brown may surpass them by week 3 of the first season

White missed his whole rookie season and then 34 of a possible 48 games in the next 3 seasons.
WOW......4 years with a grand total of 25 Recs and 285 yards and 0000000000 Tds for a top 10 .....1st rounder........... OUCH!!!!!!!!
Mike Mayock liked this dude to Deandre Hopkins ..... unbelievable

Brown may not succeed, but it would be because of his height. As far as small players succeeding I think the numbers would be skewed a bit. Alot of owners / coaches are obsessed with height so even to get drafted is a long shot. Once the player gets drafted more than likely he is a lower round pick and the team wouldnt feel as obligated to keep the player. I would like to see how many players meet the 5'10 and under 175 that were drafted in the first 3 rounds vs bigger receivers taken in the same spots. During draft time I dont know how many times I hear if this guy measures 6'0 he would vault to the first round. I just dont see anyway an 1" or 2 would either magically make you a first round pick or drop you several rounds.

The ones you said would suck huh? Hahahaha. ANYWAYS Troy had a decent rookie year. That is lost on some fans with a short memory. Every position has busts genius. Luckily the Steelers don't have the fail rate of most of your predictions.
