Russ also said it. Not trying to throw Pickens under the bus, but just answering matter of fact seems like. It's the first question out of the gate.Gerry Dulac confirmed Nate Burleson’s speculation that the interception was Picken’s fault because he stopped his route failing to draw the safety over. He was as much as a liability as he was an asset against the Chiefs.
get him some platform cleats. that should fix the problem. What is the right situation for passing over the middle for a short QB? It is his Achilles heel. It is likely why Payton refused to keep him. Unfortunately, with him having lost some mobility it allows defenses to exploit this in some cases. Not saying we can't win with him, but it is an issue.
And a new touchdown dance to go with themget him some platform cleats. that should fix the problem.
As much as I find GP one of the only reasons to watch this offense I’m with ya.My thought process has not changed. In the off season trade GP for as much as you can get
Just for fun...We already have one of the worst wide receiver groups in the league. If we trade Pickens…hoo boy. I get it though. He’s a headcase. Funny we seem to attract(or manufacture) those types since Tomlin has been the coach. Coincidence?
Probably. It’s all a moot point if we don’t find a quarterback though. I’m not a Russ fan.Just for fun...
Would you trade Pickens for a high draft pick assuming the Steelers sign Tee Higgins AND draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round?
The UFA market is pretty much Russ, Darnold, and Fields at the top. The draft class is really weak at QB as well. Russ is probably the best the Steelers can do.Probably. It’s all a moot point if we don’t find a quarterback though. I’m not a Russ fan.
I trade Pickens for a high draft pick even without assuming we get Higgins, you don't win with guys like Pickens, he can't be the number one guy when he's constantly giving up on plays and being lazy, especially if that's going to cost you 30 million per on a contract.Just for fun...

The Bills got a 2nd for Stefon Diggs and late draft picks and he was a rental an older rental player. The Ravens got a 1st for Hollywood Brown and a 3rd. The Titans got a first and a third for AJ Brown.I don't think you are getting more than a 2nd for Pickens. He was a second round pick, and while he has made some ridiculous catches, he hasn't put up numbers that would demand higher compensation. Add to that the lazy routes he runs and the drama that comes with him, I think a 3rd is about the best you can do.
Sad part is, he will end up with a team that knows how to play offense and absolutely blow up. He'll be happier and I believe he will be a completely different, more productive player.
At what point do other teams look at the history of Steelers wide receiver trades since Tomlin became head coach, and decide if a Steelers WR is on the trade block there is a reason, and the reason is not likely to lead to a positive outcome for the team trading for said WR.The Bills got a 2nd for Stefon Diggs and late draft picks and he was a rental an older rental player. Pickens is 23 and has averaged about 950 yards a season and 16.4 YPC playing in a JV-level offense. He'd either be the No. 1 or No. 2 (behind Tee Higgins) wide receiver on the market and I'd put him between Hollywood and AJ in terms of trade value. AJ Brown was a legit WR1 when he was traded while Hollywood was a low-end WR1.
At his age and with his production, an early 2nd is the starting point even though he's probably worth at least a first. He'd be an absolute monster in a lot of NFL offenses. I'd probably trade Pickens for a first with the end goal of turning it into a future 1st (2026) for ammo to make a move for a QB.
I am one that likes how Russ transformed the offense for the better. This was an interception he under threw and forced. In the A22 from the end zone, it looks like the first read was 14 and caught 88 NFL open late. If 88 was the first read, he could have hit him earlier and they would’ve have had it inside the 5 yard line. I am looking for 3 to have a bounce back game this Saturday. Hopefully 14 shows up with his head in the game.It was still a bad throw, if he puts that in the back of the endzone, only Muth can get it. I can't believe no one is crushing Russ for blaming Pickens, I thought that was a no-no for QB's? Also look at the play, Pickens is on the sideline, only 3 yards past the LOS, the safety and muth are 20+ yards downfield, Russ still should've seen the safety when he looked at Muth.
A big part of that is all those WR's had a legit QB here, everyone credits Tomlin for getting the best out of wr's here, but I think it was more Ben throwing them the ball. Look when Landry had to play a few games in a row, AB was bitching after a win because he didn't get the ball enough. At what point do other teams look at the history of Steelers wide receiver trades since Tomlin became head coach, and decide if a Steelers WR is on the trade block there is a reason, and the reason is not likely to lead to a positive outcome for the team trading for said WR.
Pretty much every wide receiver traded during Tomlin's reign has been a failure at their new team, and in must cases a disaster and locker room issue for their new team. Santonio Holmes may be the exception, given Jets got two okay years out of him which was probably worth the fifth round pick they traded. The rest of them (Brown, Bryant, Coates, Claypool, Jackson) were all disasters for the teams that traded with the Steelers for them.
