Reports out today have the hard cap at $182.5M

According to Spotrac, the Steelers are 5M under with top 51, and $2.5M under with everyone. I think these numbers will increase once we know D.Watt's contract. so closer to $6M

Better than $180M, not as good as $185M, but they met in the middle...

I was actually hoping for $193Mil and I don't know where I got that figure from, probably a GUT feeling. Regardless the STEELERS have been making a dent and still have others to rework and then sign. As this plays out it keeps getting more and more interesting as to the intracasies of cap management. I didn't pay much attention to that phase of football in the past but have been paying attention to it here the last few years.

Seems like the decision was made to bite the bullet now, rather than spread it out for a couple years. There will be some big spenders in 2021 and 2022. Some owners wont be able to keep themselves from blowing big money on pretender players at that time.

Report came out that if there wasn't a floor, the cap could have dropped to $155M
That doesn’t make any sense at all lol... gate revenue males up like 17 to 20% of the shared revenues... I didn’t think it was mathematically possible to dip under 170 based on the known revenues that were not affected ......and that share decreases annually as tv money grows... that was how the league got the nflpa to sign off on the 175 mill deal initially... it was 5 million percteam over the worse possible scenario... then they made some revenue at the gate anyhow... which is why they have been fighting to increase it up to now

again it was almost utterly impossible for the league to operate under 180.. every team but like ten would have been totally gutted... if they dropped it to 155 it would have been utter mayhem... and would have screwed up years of contracts....

I'm still surprised they set the hard cap without finalizing the TV contracts.

I think that had more to do with teams needing to address FA instead of being in limbo of the cap nature.

I'm just glad we don't have to get rid of every single player like alot were making it sound like. ;)

Apparently (just saw) we carried about $5 million over from last year. I wonder if that has been accounted for in us only being $5 million under. If not, we are more like $10 million under.

It will be very interesting with the crazy amount of cuts that will be coming from teams in cap hell, all the free agents will be free pick ups as far as compensatory picks are concerned. I think the market just crashed for a bunch of guys looking to cash in.

I think there will be some bargains available that usually aren't. Which could help a team pinching pennies.

DIC is right, it's factored in. Also pretty interesting to know that we are under the cap because of Ben's $5M paycut. Thanks Ben!!! Right now our cap space is because of you!!!!

Yep. I would think it’s a good time to be a contending team with a QB under a rookie contract. With cap room. I guess like Buffalo, have to see how much room they have.

I bet it causes an interesting dilemma if you are a free agent. Do you sign a longer term deal when $$$$ and supply might work against against your big contract? Do you take a 1-2 year deal with guaranteed $$$ hoping like hell you don’t get injured? Should be a few bargains, shall be interesting.

I agree. Everyone is forecasting the "middle class" contracts are gone this year. It'll be the splash signings (the guys who will be cut in 2-3 years) and the bargain contracts. The Steelers have been active in making mid-tier signings lately, so they may be able to get that type of player on a smaller deal. Probably short term too as players will want to cash in next year.

THIS needs to be projected LOUD and clear so those that were bitching so much can absorb it in. Obviously I'm talking about Ben's unselfishness and team player that he is.

Thanks Cope

But, but, but, we could have been 20 mil under if he were a "real" team guy and played for free!

I would have loved to see the resulting bloodbath from a 150 million cap number. Screw all those overpriced athletes.

The difference between playing for free and the contract Ben signed, was $3.5M. That's it. Less than D.Watt's cap hit.

That is as low as you can get within the rules to retain your franchise QB for one more year.
