Looks like Landry is our starter this week.

.@CoachTomlin says it was close to Ben playing today. Decided to go with players who got reps today

If that was the reason Ben didn't play then Tomlin is an idiot.

I didn't get it at all either. Bell is terrific catching the ball out of the backfield, so on 3rd down, let's throw it to Williams. It's the classic case of overthinking.

Bell was on the field. Williams flat out dropped a wide open attempt.

Ed Werder, ESPN NFL Insider

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Quarterback Landry Jones made his first NFL start Sunday for the Pittsburgh Steelers after taking 85 percent of the first-team practice reps this week.

Ben Roethlisberger took the other 15 percent and looked good enough to play, according to a source, but was inactive for Sunday's game. The untested Tyler Murphy will be the backup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

No reason to make him "inactive", Tomlin's gut.....someone needs to punch him there, really hard.

I have supported Tomlin the whole way, but I can say this much, if that's the case, he should be fired tonight, and they should let Ben call his own plays and promote Haley to HC. That has got to be the stupidest ******* thing I've ever read. That's in the history of the world, and considering all the ******* idiots currently posting on the internet.

Joe

KC knows how to use their TEs. NE, CIN and BAL does, as well. Us, not so much. I'm pretty sure Landry Jones is capable of rolling out and hitting Heath in the flat for a 3 yard gain on the 4th and 1. Eh, what do I know. . .

I don't believe that for a minute. That's Tomlin bullshitting the press. If Ben was that close, he'd have been dressed.

Well, 2-2 with Ben out isn't bad. Dallas' season is up in flames without Romo. Didn't someone on this board say we should have signed Cassell?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind having Cassell instead of Vick and Jones. Dallas is not as talented as the Steelers' O. Maybe he pulls today's game out. Or, maybe he plays worse than LJ. Kind of a crapshoot when talking back-ups.

Tomlin had nothing to gain by saying what he did. Would have rather him say Ben wasn't healthy enough to play and mean it.

Nothing to lose either....he isn't going anywhere even if it is true. Might as well get use to his coach speak. Or be like half of the yahoos in here and believe everything he says as gospel. Then ***** and moan about what he says or doesn't say ..how he says it or doesn't say it every time he says something or doesn't say something. Or something like that.

Even with the loss, Id rather sit Ben a game too long than have brought him back too early and have had his lack of mobility get him hurt worse. If we sat him next week I still wouldn't *****... I believe we will run the table when Ben gets back...as long as he stays healthy

I just saw a stat that, after the first quarter, the Steelers had no third-down conversions.

That pretty much sums up the loss.

I still think he showed enough that some team might give us something for him in the offseason, though the Steelers wouldn't do that. they almost never do...
In any case he is going to be the backup the rest of the year, no doubt...probably next year too. The heir to Mark Malone's mustache is safe for now. He had a slightly better game than I thought he would.

I am all for giving a guy a year or two to figure things in the NFL out, but he was so far back when he got here I think you don't see him totally develop till 5 years in, and frankly he doesn't have the physical tools that warrant that much development time spent.

Having said that he progressed from preseason a lot... he still rarely gets through progressions and he needs some touch on certain throws, but he is throwing the timing throws better... that was probably just a confidence thing working with the scrubs anyhow

The issue with losing this game is that they have lost 3 conference games now.

I didn't like the way the game was called either, too many passes downfield. But I think our defense really let us down today.

our defense had a raw deal with the turnovers and field position. They held decently, but didn't make the splash plays that helped us so much in previous games.

I agree somewhat. That tipped pass by AB was a killer. Worst case scenario in that possession should have been punting and pinning KC deep. Instead they end up with the ball at midfield. The D was bad at stopping the run and horrible on 3rd down. We also failed to cover a TE again which I thought Shazier was supposed to help with. Overall I do not think they did the job today.

Home crowd noise is a huge advantage for any defense's ability to make splash plays...especially sacks..

The Yinzers need to be very loud Sunday against Cincy.

Yep, and just one conference win against the Chargers, who just lost to the Raiders. Don't look now, but the Raiders are 3-3 and 3-2 in the conference. Jets and Bills losing helps. Miami throws its hat in the ring as a possible contender now, though with 2 games left against the Pats and one more against the Jets, I'm not sure how long they last. But finally dumping Philbin seems to have helped.

Ben won't play until he's a full participant in practice.
