Uh... So was Burns cut? Or not?
The thread started out with him not being cut and then switched to make it sound as if he was.
Coach threw that 'cut' info into the conversation w/ his normal assuming self...

Per Over the Cap (https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/pittsburgh-steelers/) even with the 800K roster bonus, he would save almost 1.6 under the cap if he is cut this year (post June 1) but would result in 1.3M in dead money next year. Yes, he is dirt cheap, but if he doesn't prove he can play these monies are not prohibitive to let him go via cut or trade. He is on the camp roster because injuries happen, bodies are needed to run drills, etc, etc. I also think they will trade him if some other CB needy team comes calling. I predicted a 6th rounder in the prediction thread, but I have been talked into a 7th rounder and a half eaten box of twinkies. Burnts is on the bubble for certain.
Lets look at it another way: Haden and Nelson are locks. Layne as a 3rd rounder isn't going anywhere. That gets us to Hilton and Sutton. They like Hilton's skills (although his size is a bit of an issue) and Sutton beat out Burnts last year. That is 5 CB's right there. How many CB's do they keep?
They are dead up against the cap. They are not eating 800k and paying someone else's salary on top of it.
With all the dead money from Brown, I doubt they are very eager to add any more, even if it's down the line.
Nobody wants dead money, but 1.3M is manageable. Teams always have some dead money on the books from guys like burnts. Barring injury to other guys, I just can't see Burnts on this team this year. Right now, I think he is just a camp body.
So you keep a guy who cannot play the position only because 800000 cost. Sounds like the usual Tomlin way, keep players way to long and work in progress.
He practiced pretty good vs brown the problems all happen in the games.
Artie has a 10¢ head unfortunately. He's pretty good in man coverage where his athleticism shines, but when it comes to zone responsibilities, or even biting on play fakes and studious route runners, he's just awful. Awful.
I think at one point last season he allowed four straight scores on passes that went his way. I've never seen anything like that in all of my years of watching football.
Well, I can one up him...
Softball playoff game & I am the Shortstop. I made 6 errors in this game, fielding miscues, throwing the ball up the first base line, tripped over my cleats & fell down & ate dirt. which led to 8-10 runs.
I could hear the team just groanin and blaming me for the loss. And I did lose the game.
But hey, I went home and wrote a song that made my first album...

All a coach can ask for is CONSISTENCY of play
sounds like you provided that
Album you say??? PM me the title - I'll buy it!!!

3. If Artie Burns is going down, it won’t be without a fight. Nelson hasn’t played slot corner, but plan is to take a look at him there in camp. Hilton No.1 slot for now, but doesn’t have lock on position. Burns has impressed staff with good spring, study of defense, work ethic.

If the Steelers can fix him , he has the abilities to play a lot and even be very good.
