Dale Lolly is already setting up his "Tomlin is still good because we went from 0-3 to 8-8" string of blogs.
This is a dumpster fire.
1. Offensive line has taken a big regression backwards. Age is catching up to them. Nothing young or good is on the horizon.
2. Vance McDonald got hurt like EVERYONE foresaw and we didn't once plan on a decent backup.
3. Roethlisberger got hurt. Offense looks like it's made up on the fly, half-to-half. Does anyone see anything of what they worked on in preseason?
4. Defense, despite mortgaging the future 2020 draft completely AND having NINE first rounders is average at best due to backwards scheme, poor coaching and execution.
Honestly, if this defense doesn't develop into one of the top-5 in the league, we're done. Kaput. Our offense is headed towards a REALLY bad stretch here. Old offensive line. Mediocre QB play. Average weapons. No tight ends. You could argue for our offense to get back to top-15 in the league, we need to devote the NEXT FIVE first rounders to that side of the ball.
Oh well.... average is average. I'm sure Tomlin will squeak out a few wins and make this look respectable and people in the media will "praise" his ability to keep the guys focused after such a bad start. But Tomlin's Septembers are awful and this happens EVERY YEAR.
Again.... the whole group needs gone. Colbert, Tomlin, Roethlisberger. I'd even put Art II in there as well. Cut bait with all of it. Hire a defensive coach to try to get SOMETHING out of the only talent you have (which is on that side of the ball) and hope a good offensive coordinator and new GM can build something on offense over the next decade.
