Linebacker Matthew Thomas Trending In The Right Direction

Obi cut seems a surprise but apparently the kid is not that in to football according to the raiders. Whew, we dodged that bullet, great job by the scouting team staying away from him

Raiders seem to like people that aren't THAT into football. Cough, Cough, Martavus Bryant....

That would be the last thing to do. While Thomas is a promising prospect, his athleticism being the focus, he is still lost in where “he needs to be” each play. To “start” a rookie knowing he doesn’t know the defense yet and isn’t going to be the starter come week 1, is boneheaded. You play your projected week 1 starters. Regardless of what you think you’ve seen, Boston is starting next to Vince week 1. Unless they make a move after the cuts and find someone who can step in right away and start.

You are also jeopardizing Thomas being picked up on waivers. I think he or Abideni makes the squad, with the other trying to get on the PS.

BTW your Safety pick for round one in 2017 was cut by Gruden. Didn’t make it 2 years. Nice evaluation on your part.

I never wanted him in round one. Your memory is fading again! I wanted Howard and Simmons via trade down over Burns. How did that one turn out?

Bostic has been a major weakness in the first two pre-season games. Missing tackles, getting picked on badly in coverage, and drawing flags.

Thomas is better in coverage already, and has the speed we badly need. We have nothing to lose by starting him in a pre-season game. If he shows something great. If not go to the struggling veteran, who's been on 4 teams in 4 years with a bit of an injury history.

Maybe they would be dumb enough to trade Khalil Mack for our very own Le"von Bell.

From the archives in your own words.....

" TMC felt Rivers would be out of the NFL in three years. He's a good writer, but he'll miss a lot more than you might think.

I think Walker would make a fine 3rd round pick, and he's projected to go in round 3. He says round 4.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad he's back. The nickel linebacker he's looking for might be Obi Melifonwu, or Zach Cunningham.

Melifonwu would have to be taken in round one, as he won't last long if he escapes round one.

Cunningham has a mid 2nd round grade, he would be a huge reach in round one.

Just review the 2017 NFL Draft Q&A thread......you were taken to the woodshed....

Tomlin will continue to start average or less than average veterans with no upside over youngins with much more upside......he's so stubborn in that way and it's one of his biggest flaws.....look at how the Eaglesor Pat's constantly churn out late round pics and get meaningful play from them early in their careers. Don't be surprised he keeps Toushittyzannt over Samuels because he has experience returning kickoffs for ten yards.....hey it's experience!!!!

Back on topic. Thomas ran with the 1s last night and I thought he did a great job.

He led the team in tackles, pressured well, filled the gaps, and covered effectively. I expect him to get a ton of playing time next week as well.

The Steelers did the same thing with Hilton last year. He kept getting moved up the depth chart, took more playing time as preseason games went on, then started as the nickel corner week 1. I'm getting on board with Thomas being the possible answer at ILB.

Did you see the play where he shed a blocker and made a tackle in the box.

He tackles well. He covers well. He runs well.

START HIM

I never said I thought he should be OUR first round pick. I only said if the Steelers wanted Melifonwu, it would have to be in round one, because he won't be there for our turn in round two, which was correct.

I never mentioned you said he should be out 1st rounder. You said in your own words he would have to be taken in round one....even as an argument to TMC as to was a better player.

I said if the steelers want him, he would have to be taken in round one because he won't make it to our pick in round two. I never wanted him in round one. And I liked others better in round two. Read slowly, you'll get it.

how was that bet again? Obi would be taken in the 1st round ahead oh who? I dont remember

Buddha Baker.

The idiot can’t even read his own posts.

Coach “read slowly” in the 2017 NFL Draft Q&A thread.

It wasn’t about should Pitt pick him, it was his ability vs Baker. Baker was picked first, and has played better, obviously. Just like your backpedaling. You are an all-pro at it. Congratulations.

The bet TMC would not take is Baker would not go in round one. I was correct. Remember?

If you remember, I was very pro Watt, and he looks to have been the right pick for the Steelers. No where did I say I want Obi in round one.

You were pro Watt along with many others. As I was before you. So what?

Really difficult for you to think you were wrong, no worries we will show you it happens often.

Ooo you were right about where Baker was taken, not his talent level which was Rd 1 status. I was all about us getting Yannick Ngakoue in like the late first early 2nd and wondered why nobody was talking about him that him high, he went third round and has 20 sacks in 2 seasons. I'd say I was right, he should have went higher, but so what. I don't even have evidence on this board to back up that claim. Big whoop if I was right or wrong, none of us are getting hired as a draft analyst or to the Steelers scouting department.
