Even before training camp started, undrafted free agent linebacker Matthew Thomas had one objective, make the Pittsburgh Steelers roster. For someone who experienced a multitude of trials and tribulations during his collegiate*career at Florida State, Thomas wanted to become more than just an average undrafted free agent. The current issues at linebacker have been well […]

they should keep him as the 4th ILB

I am still hoping he makes it. He has the speed, which is what that position needs.............

I hope he sticks and plays and plays well !!!!!

Salute the nation

i hope in the long run when they that predtiactable 2-4-5 he is next to vince, or he kicks to lolb and tj comes into mlb

How big is his head?

He thinks he's great!

Check the PFF data.

Bostic has been picked on in coverage. 8 targets, 6 receptions. One long pass interference.

Dirty Red is slower than Heinz Ketchup.

Might have to roll with this rookie...

They're not rolling with a rookie to make defensive calls and basically QB the defense. I'm hoping to see better play from Bostic, but the rookie (if he pans out) isn't getting a start for at least a year or two. JMO.

Maybe let him play with the one's a series or two? VW make the defensive calls?

Regardless of your opinion of dirty red at ILB, he makes this team on special teams prowess alone. He's not garbage on that unit

Who said anything about making signal calls? Vince Williams would do that. After seeing how victimized Bostic was, I'd actually START Thomas this pre-season game. We have zero to lose. Thomas has speed ( 4.58 ) and made 21 tackles for losses in his past two seasons in college. As Tomlin might say speed and making tackles for looses are in his pedigree.

If the rookie isn't ready, okay, so what. But what if he adds more than Bostic does? Only one way to find out, and it’s a meaningless pre-season game.

Would not surprise me to see Burnett making defensive calls once he get the D down. I also thought Vince already made the calls after Ryan went down

That would be the last thing to do. While Thomas is a promising prospect, his athleticism being the focus, he is still lost in where “he needs to be” each play. To “start” a rookie knowing he doesn’t know the defense yet and isn’t going to be the starter come week 1, is boneheaded. You play your projected week 1 starters. Regardless of what you think you’ve seen, Boston is starting next to Vince week 1. Unless they make a move after the cuts and find someone who can step in right away and start.

You are also jeopardizing Thomas being picked up on waivers. I think he or Abideni makes the squad, with the other trying to get on the PS.

BTW your Safety pick for round one in 2017 was cut by Gruden. Didn’t make it 2 years. Nice evaluation on your part.

Obi cut seems a surprise but apparently the kid is not that in to football according to the raiders. Whew, we dodged that bullet, great job by the scouting team staying away from him

Not sure you don't keep Thomas at this point. He has flashed speed and desire. At let's face it the position is probably the weakest on the team. There is a spot there for the taking. No you don't start him. But I would work him into coverage here and there and see how it transpires. Provided he does make the cuts and learn his assignments.
