Let's face it. Were still rebuilding

I think Giants have missed 3 or 4 now.

missed was the wrong word choice I meant won a playoff game but year the Giants are similar....

similar issues....

There is no rebuilding in the NFL. You either address your personnel issues or you don't.

Look at any teams roster and then compare that to their 2011 roster. They're all significantly different and yet some teams have had a lot of success while others have had very little.

It took New England 10 years to win another Super Bowl after their first run.

Were five years removed from a super bowl appearance and missed draft picks plus having 0 money to spend is the problem. They have hit on offensive players and not on defense

Slash stop saying we had money. The steelers were 20 millim over the cap after the new CBA. They had to keep pushing money into the future till the cap caught up with them. Which it finally has this coming of season.

yeah they were perinatal losers and had minimal amount of fans that grew with Billacheat's teams turnaround

Not even comparable.

They made the playoffs 10 times in 11 seasons (including this year) and the one they missed was without Brady and they went 11-5. There were also six appearances in the AFC championship game and three Super Bowl appearances. I wish we had half of that success over the past five years.

to be fair a significant amount of his success came from breaking the rules...

I want the Steelers to be there fair and square....

I get this, but nothing has been taken away from this team either.

besides multiple picks and fines not much, true

we can thank Goodell for that

All this rebuilding and I am still wondering if any team would swap any of their defensive starters with any of ours. Maybe Heyward.

Why would they want to trade their best D player?

If we don't get back into the habit of hitting on these first rounders, the rebuilding process is going to be longer than yinz think.

If it keeps up we will be the Browns.

He's saying that no team would swap any of their starters on defense for any of ours with the exception of Heyward. He's the only one good enough to start for others.

Yeah, lets get rid of the guy who plays with real emotion and is head and shoulders the most explosive player on the defense. Guess the 70's Steeelrs should have traded Joe Green (and I'm not comparing Heyward to Green in terms of ability, but there are certainly some similarities there) No thanks.

You do? You would be content with that type of success and no championships during that lull between? If that was going on all this board would be is pissing and moaning about how they can't win the big one. Whoever the coach is would need to be fired so they could bring in someone, anyone to put them over the top. We saw this very thing during the Cowher years. I argued with a guy who was convinced that because Cowher hadn't won it is 14 years, or whatever is was at that point, he never would. I could never figure out what the one had to do with the other.

I am sure you guys have mentioned this, but it seems recently that the Steelers draft guys in the 1st who are falling. It didn't seem like they used to do that. Why are these guys falling. DeCastro, Jones and Dupree were all fallers. DeCastro is a player, at least. Am I wrong on this?

No, you're not. Tombert for the most part sucks at evaluating and drafting defensive talent. At this point DeCastro is not a surprise because he plays on offense. Who has Tombert drafted or signed on defense who is above average? Heyward, Timmons, and Gay. 3 out of 11. That's all I got.

The offense is far from a rebuild job. But that defense..

I enjoyed going to six AFC Championship games in 15 years.

Jones was rated so high because of his production in college, but after we learned about him from his workout numbers and realized he wasn't an explosive athlete, his stock dropped. Although many teams may have had him low to begin with, the Steelers seemed to judge him as an elite prospect. Dupree was the opposite as he was raw without production to match his skills. You hope that the Steelers could coach up a guy who has all of the athletic skills to be a good pass rusher.

I still can't believe they took Jones. I do not profess to be some talent evaluator, but I watched Jones some his last year, especially the Bowl game. He ran around a lot, but didn't do much. I don't know what they saw.

Wonder how long that one will haunt them.

As long as he takes the field.

I still have a great deal of hope and expectation for Dupree. He has at least flashed, which lets be honest is pretty much all you can hope form a rookie like him. I'm more concerned about Shazier who flashes and dissapears for long periods in his second season..

I agree

although with Shazier I look towards next year as possibly key

not uncommon year two or three with players for the light to come on.

Miami, Buffalo and the Jets.........Plug half the league into that division and you make the playoffs...........none of those aforementioned teams have had anywhere close to top level QB talent in 15 years (save the Favre year in the Meadowlands.... but he was done by then). New England has won that division 13 of the last 15 seasons.

Buffalo-- Taylor, Manuel, Orton, Fitzpatrick, Losman, Trent Edwards
Miami -- Tanneyhill, Henne, Moore, Pennington, Lemon, Feely and Fiedler
NYJ-- Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith, Sanchez, Favre and Pennington

That lineup of QBs is a big reason why. They'll continue to master that division as long as there is subpar QB talent adorning the opponents rosters and they continue cheating.
