LeSean McCoy traded for Kiko Alonso

The NFL doesn't have blockbuster trades that often, but this one qualifies. Heck of a player the Bills are getting and the Eagles will need a healthy Alonso coming back their way.
 
I wouldn't really call it a blockbuster trade.
 
It is an interesting trade but they both have huge questions marks, Alonso is coming off a missed season through injury and Shady has the wear and tear of 6 seasons as a RB.
 
Every Eagle fan I have talked to so far hates it...Didn't Alonso play at Oregon? Coach loves his Oregon players.
 
Chip gets a former Duck and saves 8 million in cap. Draft time I bet he makes a move to get Mariota.
 
I don't see how this trade makes any sense. Especially if it's an even swap. Alonso has one full season in the NFL, and while for a rookie it was pretty stellar, that's about it. McCoy has been one of the best backs in the league since he came into the league, still is. There has to be more to this than just swapping players, Oregon connection or not...

Looks like trading McCoy, cutting Trent Cole, possibly not signing Maclin saves them almost $30M in cap space.
With the $32M they have now that will give them over $60M in cap space, that's not even counting almost $7M saved if the cut DeMeco Ryans and another $1.7M if they let go of Nick Foles in anticipation of drafting Mariota.

Chip Kelly has full control of that team, he is coach and GM. This is almost a full blow-up rebuild/house cleaning.
 
Feature RB's are at a premium. I would be pissed if I was an Iggles fan.
 
I think there is a few factors in the trade, Shady didn't really fit the system under Kelly, The Eagles save 8 million dollars on the cap and you get a young potentially stud LBer if Alonso can return to his rookie form. I can understand how Eagles fans would be disappointed given Shady has been the face of the franchise the last few years. The Eagles currently only really have Sproles and Polk so be interesting to see how they address the RB position now. I actually think McCoys best days are behind him, if I were the Bills I would of kept Alonso.
 
6 good years from McCoy is about average for RB's. Kiko played every snap his rookie year and was 3rd in the league in tackles. High risk reward trade IMO. Saves them a ton of cash.
 
The Bills win in this trade. Even if Alonso comes back 100%, the guy that filled in for him did a pretty good job. You're getting a top 5 back and not losing all that much on D.
 
It all depends on how much McCoy has left in the tank, he already wants an extension.

Yeah they are talking on NFL network Shady and Chip had a few run ins, shady didn't like the way Kelly practiced hard on saturdays. Nothing bad just as a vet he didn't like it they were saying. Plus the Eagles need to free up cap space and this was a big help towards that.
 
McCoy still has 6 years of wear and tear on him. Don't get me wrong I think this coming season he will tear it up, he'll have a big "chip" on his shoulder. They'll get two possibly three good years out of him. I personally think the trade works out for both teams.

You got to question Chip Kelly though, the Eagles are well and truly his team, got rid of Jackson and McCoy. Total rebuild.
 
The Eagles NEED to free up cap space? They had nearly 41m in cap space before this...Didn't the Eagles already prove to everyone you can't buy a team in FA? Remember the "Dream team"?

That is not what they are reporting on tv, they said they need space that why they cut guys like Cole
 
Wonder if this means the Eagles could make a play at Peterson if he becomes available.

I am so confused I just found this after you posted this, what the heck are they talking about...lol

The Eagles' 2015 adjusted cap is $159,872,378. That includes $15,715,700 in 2014 carryover. They have about $33 million available now.

Just had a thought
Herschel Walker trade...25 years ago one of the best running backs in the NFL was traded for
3x 1st Rnd picks, 3x 2nd Rnd picks, 1x 3rd Rnd pick, 1x 6th Rnd pick (a bunch of players from both teams and a few Dallas picks were swapped too)

In 2015 one of the best running backs in the NFL was traded for an injured linebacker.
 
The Eagles have TONS of cap space so that wasn't the driving factor.

The truth is the Eagles front office this off-season was already looking for a way to dump McCoy and his $11.95 million cap hit. Restructuring wasn't really going to work. And McCoy wasn't open to a pay cut off his scheduled $9.75 million salary this year. Come on, everyone here knows NO running back is worth that.

All signs pointed to the Eagles releasing McCoy just as they did with DeSean Jackson.

For the Eagles to turn that inevitability into a young, 2nd round prospect who already showed he can play with TWO years left on his rookie deal is amazing. The fact Alonzo played for Kelly and Kelly knows what he is getting off the field is even better.

Huge win for the Eagles but it really depends on how Kelly plans on spending all that cap space (at close to $40 million now). The smart move is take the shotgun approach and get 5 guys in the $5 million/year range to really improve depth. That tier-2 free agency group is where most of the value is at. History kind of shows going all in on the $50 million+ contract for the #1 to #3 top free agents every year doesn't work well. The Eagles were probably smart last year getting Malcolm Jenkins at $5 million and not Jarius Byrd at $9 million (which every Eagle fan wanted).

Now the stupid Eagles are complaining again. Serves them right. No fan base has won so little yet acts like they are owed so much.
 
Be funny if the Eagles go out and sign CJ Spiller now lol
