Leading the league in penalties

We have the second rated O. That is close to number 1.

:welcoming:

I just looked at that, nice. Fichtner deserves some credit. And **** you Le'Veon Bell, we're humming along just fine.

Justification im saying is too early to label anything.. we played three games. There are 4 teams below us in defense they are a combined 10-2. Everything will eventually balance out..

We have been making the same mistakes for years. I think its safe to say its been going on long enough to be labeled.

That is today's NFL. Games outcome are impacted greatly by the refs and their judgement calls. All you can hope for is that they call a game evenly for each side. So far for the Steelers games I think they have.

Pitt....37 penalties
Opponents....32 penalties

But they are dead last, so that argument is a little impuissant. So, a lot of flags are thrown, true. But the Steelers are dead last in committing fouls. Undisciplined.

We had an illegal shift...on a ******* punt. How the **** do you do that?''

It's a bad penalty, but the only really bad penalties are the dumb after the fact bullshit. Burns removing his helmet, and DHB arguing with a ref. Those are inexcusable, and I'd bench both for that level of cocknockery...

The world champion eagles were 3rd in penalties last year with 130..

The super-disciplined Patriots had 101 penalties last year the undisciplined steelers had 105.

As I suspected, the undisciplined Steelers led the league in unnecessary roughness penalties in 2017, with 13. Only two other teams had more than 9.

The world champion Eagles had 7, and their super-disciplined opponent in the Super Bowl, the Patriots, had 4.

How about 2018, you might ask?

Yes, the undisciplined Steelers once again lead the league with 5, the defending world champion Eagles have 2, and the super-disciplined Patriots have 1.

Not all penalties are the same. Many times teams will take a delay of game penalty to allow the punter more room. Sometimes it is better to hold than let your QB get killed. Or grab a WR who is about to be wide open for a TD. However, stupid penalties like unnecessary roughness are never good.

The Steelers had 78 yards rushing, and 155 yards in penalties against Tampa Bay. Never a good combination when your team gives up nearly twice as many penalty yards as they've gained on the ground.

Again, they are lucky to be 1-1-1 at this point. Ben very well might have to throw for 5500+ yards this year for the Steelers to make the playoffs.

What if Ben hadn't turned the ball over 5 times in game 1? Might we be 2-1, instead of 1-1-1?

Anyone know what the cause is? Bad luck? The league has it out for us?

No, once again, it's another manifestation of total **** discipline. And who is the main champion for discipline on a football team?

The head coach.

Do you think it's simply a coincidence when teams play with discipline and avoid penalties?

No, it's called coaching.

I am so sick of this regime being unbelievably lacking in discipline, accountability and focus.

And, maybe it's time we stop getting angry at Tomlin and start directing that angst to the one who just allows this slop fest to continue: Rooney.

I couldn’t have said it better. They should quit being babies, “ oh boo boo the ref’s have it out for us”

You hit the nail right on the head, first strike. Amen to you.

Playoffs? Playoffs?

I don't know. I always, always think we'll make the playoffs but this year doesn't feel good at all. I hope they can damn well turn it around.

Not an argument. I just stated that it seems the refs are calling a fair game. It is all you can ask for as a fan.

Yes, Ben had a poor game In week one. Thankfully, he's rebounded. I have confidence in Ben performing well. I have no confidence in the defense. How about you?

What if Hue Jackson had started the better quarterback? Might the Steelers be 1-2?

It’s the special teams that kill me every time. Danny Smith just isn’t doing a good job. There is something on damn near every special teams play.

Special teams have bothered me for so many years (way back to pre-Tomlin days) that I have, pretty much, given up.

if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

if we were 1-2, we'd be tied with the greatest CHEATING coach ever.

Just getting the FACTS straight

Wow, the ol' "if my aunt had balls" adage. Good one. Psst...you started the "what if" game, remember? Regarding Ben and his game one turnovers?

And all Tomlin has to do is win 4 Super Bowls in a row, and he'll be tied with that great coach.

So since you purposely ignored the question, you're confident in the defense, then?

You said they were lucky to be 1-1-1 because of the poor defense, which is, simply, not true.

I love penalties and i wish they would pose more after ordinarly plays.

Oh man that's my favorite part of every single play. I'm looking for that flag, which of course they could throw on every single play of every game just about. My favorite to see is the leverage fouls when trying to block field goals. I go HELL YEAH.

I'm thinking about starting up a fantasy foul league. ***** awesome. Who's in?

We get points for number of penalties AND yards? We drafting the refs or the players that get penalized?

Now you're talking. We can have refs& players drafted. Big points for players who get fined for infractions as well. Maybe Topps can do some trading cards for the refs. Total penalties, game changing judgment calls,..ect

The refs and fouls are a huge part of the game now. Just as much as the players....;(
