Dupree needs an upgrade no doubt, I'm all for that, but when we go 2DL you're setting the LBs up to fail, that leaves 3 300+lb Olinemen that get on our 240lb LBs, that's a huge mismatch.
Look at the 4 teams left, Philly, Jax, Minn, NE, they rush 4 DL every play, on occasion 3 guys, but always at lest 3 DL. The quickest way to ruin any play is penetration or shoving your guy 3 yards into the backfield. That's not going to happen rushing 2DL and a LB

Hey, i agree, we probably should be looking to the draft, or at least, for some F.A. with youth on their side to fill shazier's vacated spot. But to say that Vince has played "well" in place of Timmons?? No. He's been "okay"at best. He's just a guy, he's quite replaceable, himself

I say bring him back for 3 down and let him know what his role will be just be honest with the guy and I am sure he will take the offer.

Chip, you are right because at this point in Timmon's career, either one of the two are as fast as he is which isn't quite fast enough but a way lot cheaper.

I believe Fort and Williams only have 1 year left before becoming free agents. If the Steelers can find some money, they likely
want to sign 1 free agent linebacker, even if only a back-up quality.
 
Williams performed much better than I expected. With Shazier in, Williams could concentrate on his role. With Shazier out, I think Williams was not allowed to do the same things and the Run D suffered.

The question isn't, necessarily, is Timmons still good enough to play in Shazier's spot, it is "Can you find someone better for the same price". Even I don't think he can start in that spot full time. I think he can start in Williams spot, FT, if needed. He can do spot fill-in's on both spots with some success.

We all know the price is what makes the difference. If Timmons would take back-up money and be content to do spot play, that would make the team better. He knows how to tackle, at least, We were told, for years, that the only reason he lead the team in tackles was because of the spot he played. This year, Sean Davis lead the team in Tackles. You'd think it would have been Williams.

I don't buy the idea that you can get someone better, younger AND cheaper.
 
Red or Fort on 3rd down? Has anyone watched this team the past few seasons, the biggest weakness is our ILBs trying to cover, in the AFCCG last year, Timmons was getting abused.
We're better off using 4DL-Watt-6 DBs on passing downs. I'm sick of this crap where it seems we have to use ILBs, if Shazier isn't there, not one of our ILBs including Timmons if he were signed should see the field on passing downs.

I don't disagree. However, often, an Offense can dictate whether that change can be made or not. The O doesnt have to let you substitute, unless they do.

No they don't, but not many teams use that hurry up to much, Brady and Rodgers really get you though.

He would still be better than the SpenceDong as a backup.

Unless this team is drafting one and bringing in a free agent. I am all for his return.

Now if their plans aren't bringing in 2 options then, we could do worse for a backup.... After-all we just saw worse when Shalieve went down. Stack your deck thin, you just might lose your hand.
