Frustrated the rain drove you out of Latrobe? You could always stop in Jeannette on the way out with an axe to grind literally at the Valhalla Indoor Axe Throwing Amusement Center.Nah a little rain will never hurt you. And for the players short practices make for a welcomed sight with a combination of hot and muggy long practice days mixed in with grieving over a coach that just passed. Juju might as well presented as a mummy, he was wrapped up, head down clearly still down over the passing of coach Drake. Speaking of coach Drake I liked the roadside memorial setup by the fans. Was the perfect entrance for a not so perfect camp ending . So not surprisingly I slapped hands with players coming out of the workout area in route to the practice field, it replaced the pen and the autograph.

I did wish them well, and good luck on the season. On a less sombering note there was a woman face-timing her brother in Afghanistan. Big Ben (got damn Ben again), Haden, and Bud Dupree each individually stopped and talked to the soldier abroad. Dupree complemented him on being buff as hell. Sort of made my camp right there knowing a ray of light was sent to a man serving overseas, not having access to our daily fanatical pleasures. The soldiers favorite player was Juju, so I dug one of my 8 by 10's out of my bag and handed it to her. Signature or not I told her to mail it to him, and godspeed on his safe return and thanks for serving. You can never thank a soldier enough for putting his life on the line. Heroes that never get the recognition they deserve. I had one visit recently at the VFW after Friday Night Lights Latrobe high school that I got to talk to some vets. Man the stories they tell.
Ol girl really liked Banner , he was really good with the crowd. One fan was Rick Flair woo-ing and Zach Banner engaged him back, ol' Rick would have been proud.
My morning started with lecturing to this Latrobe College player to not just graduate but to chase his football dream as far as it would take him. Regardless if that was an undrafted tryout whatever. The kid had a lot of football passion, brought back some youthful memories.He showed some of his clips, all edited well. What dreams are made of......
I could go in on some practice notes, but I can mix that in with other football threads. I will say it looks like most of the walking wounded is getting healthier. A good note to always end on. Especially getting ready for the beginning of a season.
