Lamar Jackson, the bottom is falling out beneath him.

Charlie Batch a 14? Can’t be, I listen to him all the time and he is a great communicator. He’s equal or no different than Trent Green or Charles Davis.

If Coach said the same stuff about a white QB, would people be bothered with that? I doubt many would bat an eye. I think there are stupid black players and white players. I can base my opinion on whatever I hear and see from them.. sorry if that offends anyone. It certainly doesn’t mean I’m racist.

I don’t even know what all Coach said but damn, people are sitting at the edge of their seats ready to call people racist anymore. Can’t a guy be called stupid anymore without threats of racism being thrown around?

I don’t think Rudolph is the brightest person in the world..

It isn't cooches first encounter for the accusation.

Yeah he sure knocks a lot of players but the ones he tends to spotlight are black. Coincidence maybe and then again

maybe not.

He's an unintelligible, low IQ moron who couldn't read a defense if his life depended on it. He was lucky Tomlin took pity on him and let him hold a clipboard for a few years. [/sarcasm]

The average Wonderlic score is a 20.
Dan Marino, Jim Kelly and Terry Bradshaw scored 15’s.
Lamar Jackson scored a 14.
Punter Pat Mcinally is the only player in NFL history to score a perfect 50.
Mike Mamula scored a 49
Kevin Curtis, Fitzmagic and Ben Watson all scored 48's.
I don't think any of the guys in the high scoring group are headed to the HOF anytime soon. While Marino, Kelly and Bradshaw have obviously punched their tickets.
By the way, a person who scores a 10 or above is considered literate, while anything lower might suggest illiteracy. So, speaking like Lamar must mean speaking like a literate. Unless of course, it's the use of "Ebonics" that really gets you going.

By the way, if you like Tua, you'll probably hate the fact that his Wonderlic was lower than Jackson's. Tua scored a 13.

Wow, I had no idea Tua was as dumb as a box of rocks. He sounds much more intelligent than LJ. Have to wonder if some of these guys just blow the test off and give minimal effort.

Come now.
Whats the %'age of black players in the league?
70 or so?
Small wonder then, no?

Kinda like swinging a dead cat overhead in Florida, and complaining about hitting mainly retired folks.

Kudos to Sojourner Steel, pretty much nailed it. With the slotted draft salaries there is no reason for players to invest themselves in the test. Game tape and interviews are the primary indicators teams look at anyway.

It’s curious isn’t it? You provide a quasi joke about Jackson’s race and then state someone is favoring the player because of his.....race.

It’s fine you think Jackson is an idiot regardless of his “ethnicity or skin tone”, that’s your OPINION. To say you “offend with the truth”, what truth are you stating? You haven’t provided a “truth” to anything factual, you’ve only stated your opinion (albeit filled with egotism and conceit).

The only truth here is, once again, OutCoached is owned and out-coached.

Ike,

Now be honest, have you ever called a player stupid? Yes or No? I'm sure you have, "because that was a stupid play. " And I'm 98% sure you wont even answer that question because if you do you entire racial BS call goes away, doesn't it?

This season D Johnson for example didn't field a punt and cost us yards. Posters spoke up. Or better yet Shamrko Thomas. Remember him? I hated that pick, we gave up third round pick to obtain him. ( Yeah outcoached again on that one. ), Well guess what Mr. Kelly our head coach, Mike Tomlin said he didn't have it above the neck. Re-read that twice, and many here chuckled at it. Does that make them all racists?

On Lamar Jackson, I'll stand by he's stupid. When you asked why, I told you he scored the low on the wonderlic, ( Historically low for a QB ) , can barley speak, and did something stupid by questioning his coaching staff. ALL FACTs. If you ever seen sample wonderlic questions, many are jokes.

This guy is Raven, you should hope he tanks. When the Ravens made Flacco the highest paid player in football I cheered. I hope they do the same for Jackson!

Coach, I'm only gonna say this: 13 on a wonderlic test doesn't make Lamar Jackson dumb anymore than a supposed 38 makes you smart. I know a lot of people that are book smart but lack any discernible form of common sense. I also know a guy that didn't finish 9th grade and has degrees in engineering and biochemistry.

Just be careful of how you judge people and what you say in that judgement. People here now see you as maybe a racist, even if you didn't mean it that way. Maybe stick to the way he plays football rather than the way he talks, and none of this happens.

Damn. I defended a Baltimore Raven. I'm going to go shower now.

You are entitled to your opinion but the correlation of IQ and the wonderlic test is a clear one. The guy you know, if he took the test would score in the 30's or higher, I bet. No, I didn't mean it that way. To me what is revealing many players have been called stupid before. I call Jackson stupid and one says that's racists. F him, no it's not.

Again, IQ is just a number. As I said before, a person can be book smart to beat the band and still be a life failure. There's more to being smart than doing well on a test. I know why it's so important to you, but in the grand scheme of things, it really just isn't that important.

The NFL is a multi billion business. They think the wonderlic test is important. To switch gears, how about Lamar Jackson doesn't have much of a football IQ at quarterback. Can you agree with me on that point?

I agree. 18-19 year old's have one thing in mind...$$$$. I'm sure many put as much effort into this test as SAT's.
And if you are a 1-2 round talent projection, how much does this score drop your stock?

I'm tagging in...

To call a player 'stupid' - does that equate to 'he doesn't have it above the neck'? Let's dig deeper since you couldn't stay on topic on this particular post.

1. Dionte Johnson - started off the season shaky - trying to do too much on ST and at the WR position ended up getting himself hurt and, yes, he fumbled a punt. I would not call that 'stupid'---perhaps 'too eager', but definitely not 'stupid'.
2. Shamarko Thomas - Coach Tomlin felt he didn't 'have it above the neck'. Doesn't make the guy stupid - maybe he didn't fit our systems and/or schemes? Maybe, just maybe, a good HC recognizes that and keeps him off the field? Tell me more about his interview skills - maybe that'll persuade me???
3. Lamar Jackson - low wonderlic score + he can barely speak + he did "something" stupid by questioning his coaching staff = stupid. Let's let that marinate a bit...

Look at #3 closer. Sarge (and other/myself included) have told you that a wonderlic score does not equate to a HOF football player. True or false? "He can barely speak", again, don't let your demographical and economical status determine your judgement on THIS statement - it is laced with subliminal racial undertones. Show me a player that hasn't questioned his coaching staff - that'll be the guy who doesn't care and is just there to make a paycheck.

This debate would have long ended had you simply apologized for your non-sensical statement. But you never let go. You continue to dig the hole - deeper - and deeper...and then you wonder why some of the best posters we've had choose to leave and not come back (guess I'm stupid for doing that).

Maybe this sinks in. Maybe not. I've planted the seed and it's not my job to water it...

Friend of mine attended Pitt same time as Marino. Word on campus was Dan never failed .... he would either be given an incomplete, or be allowed to drop the course. Supposedly this happened a lot of times.

Hmm?

I went to Central Catholic with him and was in a couple of classes with him...

Seemed like a fairly smart fella...

Lamar Jackson runs the system he is in well enough, so he has at least some football acumen. I never played QB in the NFL, so I can't really judge his football IQ. That said, there are former and current NFL coaches and players that think he is pretty good. Personally, I think that without the ability to run, he's average. I would say he is average because of his physical passing abilities, not necessarily his football smarts.

I would go a little further and say he’s below average without his running ability. I would say he does lack a little bit in football smarts when it comes to reading a defense. An example would be that the majority of his interceptions come against zone, he is fooled relatively easy. If we’re talking running QBs, ’d take Vick every time over Jackson. IMO, Steve McNair is so underrated as a mobile/running QB. He killed us so many times and that guy could shred defenses with his arm too.

if the trade deadline hadn't passed already, we should have traded Ben for that brainiac Jameis Winston.
Definitely would have increased our overall team IQ, right Cooch? and made us better!

Fortunately/unfortunately, it's not like the old days where these guys would sit a year or two and learn the NFL game. A lot of these kids would benefit from that. But, in today's NFL, a first round QB has to start quickly.
Different rounds, but, look at our own back-up QB, I question whether he has either the athletic ability or the football IQ to ever amount to much. I don't question his overall intelligence. But, I question his ability to read a defense, adjust his read post-snap, etc. Is that because he has a low football IQ for the QB position or because he lacks the physical/athletic ability to translate what he sees into action? I think it's both.

saying a play is stupid is not the same as calling a player is stupid

2 things about the Wonderlic test scores shown:

1. I wouldn't draft a QB with a score of 13 or lower. That is the minimum for me since I don't see any QBs with successful careers below that mark
2. Scores mean nothing for position players. We have HOFers in the single digit scores, so this test, to me, would only weed out potential QB candidates only.

So this makes Lamar draftable. I think it is better said that his football IQ for on the field decision making is lacking, and his arm is inaccurate when forced to throw.

Where to begin.....you can try to flip the dialogue to make you the victim in this discussion, but the only fact that’s pertinent is YOU made the statement about a player’s intelligence based on their verbal cues. You and you alone have continually voiced a person’s communicative ability dictates what his intelligence is. That is asinine, not to mention in itself an idiotic platform.

Of course I’ve called a player stupid, but for their actions, not their intelligence. Burfict and PacMan Jones were stupid on various actions on the field. Eric Greene and Bam Morris I thought they did stupid things off the field that impacted their careers. It doesn’t mean I thought they lack football intelligence. They were in the NFL, the top of the professional food chain, so that shows they had some acumen. I’m 98% sure you will do something stupid on this board again as well. Doesn’t mean you lack intelligence? You have some, obviously. As to what level, we can only surmise purely based on your timid repartee on posts.

Again you can stand by your opinion of Jackson. No issue there. However, when you claim your “facts” are from his Wonderlic score, that he can “barely speak”, and questioned his coaching staff, your intelligence on football matters, not withstanding, shows ineptitude.

First, the Wonderlic isn’t a true measurement of intelligence. It provides baseline interpretation of a person’s problem solving abilities and situational cognizance. It also is dependent on participant incentiveness . It can be used in the regular working world for occupational effectiveness assessment of prospective employees. The NFL player is different, and if you can’t delineate the difference then there is no point discussing any further.

“Barely speak”. Again what are you implying? Do you have trouble understanding him due to his enunciation of words, his speech dialect or lack of colloquialism by use of informal slang? All of these are not due to lack of intelligence, but rather cultural intermediaries. Do you have the same problem with country folks and their slang? What about Henry Kissinger? Sure English was his second language, but he had a thick accent even after being in the US for several decades.

Finally, questioning his own coaching staff. Really? You are using this to quantify a players intelligence. Well then you better chalk up a whole slew of players, many of them HOF’s, as intellectually stupid. Sure, challenging a coach’s decision process probably not ideally welcomed, but it doesn’t mean the individual isn’t smart. If fact, I’d say a coach who doesn’t listen to his QB about any problem he may have is closing the line of communication for success.

You said you were 98% sure I wouldn’t answer your question. Well like usual you are wrong again. Plus, the racial clarity of your comments still hasn’t been answered by you. Chances are you won’t answer it either. But play the victim card again. See how that works again. Or maybe try giving us a link to where you have Jackson’s official IQ so as to prove the intelligence level you think he has.

Until then you are still OutCoached and owned.

Well damn .... That was a well thought out, plainly stated, easily understood answer. Brutal too!

Like usual he won't answer all his questions but no matter Ike flipped him upside down and shook him until every loose cent fell out.

Cooch never knows when to throw in the towel, but damn he should now.....

I foresee him fighting/wriggling until the thread devolves into one of those threads that has to be shut down. Later he'll claim the thread was shut down because he "owned" someone/everybody who disagreed with him. I mean, it's already become more about him and his world view than football .... and honestly, I think he likes it like that. Attention is a powerful drug for some folks.
