The TD pass was an easy read and throw with good up front pass protection. Ravens fans will play he's a rookie card, but lots of rookie QB's come in and flash skills as a passer. Jackson struggled with accuracy and reads vs a vanilla game 1 preseason defense. A double negative for any quarterback.
I watched Jackson play a few times in college.** He's not a good passer, or reader of college-level defenses and IMO will struggle on 3rd down, and piss his receivers off in the NFL This is not to be confused with arm strength or range, as Jackson has plenty of that. Based on how he runs with the ball, he could be fumble prone in the NFL.** Jackson's career accuracy in college was 57%,* and he threw 27 interceptions in 38 games.*** These numbers will not cut the mustard in NFL.
But coach, he'll learn. Counterpoint, his Wonderlic score was very low.* I have not seen a guy with a 12 or 14 succeed in the NFL as a starter in the past 15 years.
Joe Flacco is one of the most overpaid players in the NFL.* His job looks to be safe.
If I had to compare Jackson to an NFL QB, I'd say less refined Tyrod Taylor.
You could say I'm glad the Ravens picked him. Teams that overpay for mediocre QB's and miss on a first-round pick at quarterback are essentially screwed for years.
