Lack of talent or coaches not drawing up plays to make most of what they have?

One of the major problems from the latter part of the Noll era was the coaching staff forcing the players to fit the system rather than adjusting the system to work with the resources they had. They had some great talent that flourished under Cowher and Co, because they didn't try to bang a square peg into a round hole, they molded the system to the talent they had on the field.

So help an old fan understand what's going on with this team. Are they just a bunch of no talent washed up bums, or is the coaching staff recreating the latter part of the Noll era and not making the system work to the talent they have on hand? Or a simple combination of both? Not knowing any better I'd say it's both.

Steelers offense wins with playmakers. It doesn’t win with scheme-like Kansas City, the Rams, New England, New Orleans. Imagine if Steelers had that. Maybe they’d score on an opening drive. Or in a 2nd half.

IMO, the coaches aren't doing the players any favors.
The 2DLinemen **** isn't going to make it easy on our Dline, and it's forcing our OLBs to face OTs all game, and when we only rush 3 guys like we did several times last night, teams just keep a RB or TE into block and all our pass rushers are doubled. Baltimore converted a 3rd and long with only 2 WRs going out on routes because they max protected our 3 pass rushers.

Bostic and Williams on passing downs is idiotic, yet we tried that all day yesterday, it was the same when Timmons was here, we always left him in on passing downs.
As for if this is Tomlin or Butler's defense, it's very obvious it's Tomlins, there have been zero exotic blitzes.

Tomlin has steadily been making this team worse for years. talent hid that. now that this is pretty much all his p layers and all of his systems the end result is what we are forced to watch on the field every week this year.

we had a franchise qb in his prime when Tomlin took over. we have wasted the last 8 years. how many more trophies would we have if cowher had stayed?

I've been saying that for years, the offense has no purpose,no plays called to set up other plays, rarely any misdirection.
Baltimore ran a play where there was a fake screen left, then fake the screen right, then hit the TE screen in the middle.

The offense should be uptempo all the time. They thrive rolling fast. Spread the ball around. The more that happens the better off they are as a team. Sorry AB it just can't be a one man show. You have to start giving them stuff they haven't seen. The same ole will produce nothing. Same crap for 5 years.

The defense just doesn't have the talent to run that 3-4 zone hybrid. It looks like absolute hell. Scrub qbs pick it apart pretty easy...hell all of them pick it apart. It's become easy,predictable and very stale. You're only real shot at making anything happen is blitzing from all over A LOT. Better to go down swinging. Unless you can start drafting worth a ****,then you may be better served running a 4-3 and still blitzing.

Coaching? What have you really done for anyone to go man he's brilliant. He really has his **** together. It looks like a parent who is trying to be a buddy to his kid and not giving them the discipline and teaching they need to prevail. They can't even ******* tackle and may even break NFL records for penalties in a season

When Cowhers guys left this defense has gone down down downhill. It's as soft and unsure of itself as I've ever seen in my 40+ years of watching.

The window is shutting fast. It will take a **** ton of creativity and guys committed to going above and beyond their paycheck to make it happen. Too much diva bs, fantasy fb worry, look at me group td nonsense, no fire. Nothing. Just celebrating a bunch of nothing and epic failure when it matters most. Same old selfish self promoting song.
 
Those of us who have been saying this stuff for years are just sitting back and laughing. Welcome to the parade. How on God's green Earth could you NOT see this coming?

Good points! There was a play where their TE Williams actually lined up next to their center. The Steelers were totally confused. Tomlin is plain too stupid to ever come up with anything of that magnitude.
