Insider:

Polamalu unhappy with brass
FEATURED

Roundup of a lot of randomness from a lot of time around our teams …

• Within the context of his immense stature, Troy Polamalu retired as quietly as possible. There was no press conference at the Steelers’ headquarters. There were no teary hugs or handshakes. He simply placed two phone calls, one to Dan Rooney and another to veteran reporter Jim Wexell, who landed the exclusive for his site Steel City Insider.

That was it. He called no one else.

One of the greatest athletes of his generation shut it down as quickly and effortlessly as if he vaulted over the Tennessee line, wrapped up the tackle and walked away.

The in-depth interview by Wexell answered most every question about why Polamalu retired when he did, but one that’s remained unanswered is why he retired the way he did.

The simple answer, based on numerous conversations I’ve had on this topic, is this: He was — and remains — very much disenchanted with the Steelers’ current front office, and that includes pretty much everyone under Rooney, and I emphasize under. He loves Dan in every way, speaks of him as a son would of a father. But the same most definitely cannot be said of Art Rooney II, Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin, with whom his falling out is described by sources close to Polamalu as being pretty much beyond repair.

I hear Bradshaw is still pissed too

I mean, if we are being honest with ourselves- Troy should have been cut 2 years ago...

Also, do we really expect Troy, an extremely introverted personality, to have some huge retirement presser? This is simply speculation for web clicks... But i cant knock DK's hustle though..

Well, the Steelers could have cut him loose a few years back when his play began to slide....but did the right thing and kept him around as a show of respect. Anything else regarding his real or imaginary feelings towards Art, Tomlin, Colbert is just chewing the cud...

I've been disappointed with everyone under Dan Rooney as well.

So he's mad because he grew older and slower?

If you had to pick who's cart you would attach your horse too the FO or Troy? I'm going Troy every day and twice on Sunday. If he really is disenchanted with the FO it pretty much tells those of us who have been bitching about it that we are right. The end of this season will be time to move along for Tombert in my mind. If they can make the playoffs and advance, I guess there is no choice.

Exactly this. We knew things were bad when we saw him HEATED in the preseason on the sidelines a few times, as well as the "we need to practice better" interview.

Troy's play the past few years is being grossly understated. He watched the team around him fall into a pit of undisciplined, untalented, heartless, entitled ****. All his fault doe.

I think much of this is a reflection of our coach.

Ummm....What about ArtII? Can he get let go also?

The talent around him declined that is obvious. It also showed he wasn't the player he once was. It is a shame that he spoke of this stuff to a reporter if true. Not the OLD Steeler way is it?

Troy may indeed have some issues with the front office, I wouldn't really know. However, I never expected him to be the type to have a flashy, look-at-me retirement anyway. The guy has always been humble, soft spoken, deeply religious and certainly not one you would seek out for big quotes and sound bites. In fact, I remember him several times saying that football was not something that really defined him as a person. So him telling one reporter and quietly bowing out made sense to me.

Simple fact is that he can't play any more.
I had to fire someone today too. It's not always pleasant (sometimes it IS) but there can come a day when you have to decide that your organization is better off without someone.

I have been saying for years Art Rooney II is single handedly ruining this organization. He and his agenda to prove his idealism correct has only proved his views to be false. We can fire Tomlin or Colbert but it wouldn't do any good unless we cut off the head of the snake and get rid of Art the II.

This not the Steelers of the past, the Chief and Dan ran the Steelers the right way. Art may be of the same genes but he certainly is not of the same character. I believe the team of the 2000-2010 was a true band of brothers that really played for each other and truly liked each other. I remember reading Farrior had guys at his place every night. The Steelers are no different than any other team now - there is no Steeler Way. I'm with Sask, I'll hitch my horse to Polamalu's wagon over the Steelers anyday.

Someone please cite some specific examples when you're bashing Art Rooney II. Just curious to read what ya'll are so riled up about...

Hmmm.....

- Ben hosting the WR's and Bell down in Georgia last week for workouts
- Deebo hosting basically the entire LB crew in 'Zona a few weeks back for workouts
- Blurb from Brad Wing (yes, the punter!) from steelers.com: "You get so close to everyone because you are with them all of the time. I knew you got close to teammates, but here it’s different. It’s a different type of teammate and I like it a lot here. I made friends in college, but here there is a closer bond and connection.”

Ok, you guys do that and enjoy surfing, hanging out at the beach, praying with the Benedictine monks, whatever it is Polamalu will be doing from this point forward. The rest of us, I guess, will be left rooting for the Steelers as they hit the field in September...

He's an interfering owner. He made Tomlin (who is hated) fire Arians (who was hated) and hire Haley (who was hated at first, and is still only "accepted" grudgingly). He mandated that the run game become more effective (which was good). And well ... He's not Dan or The Chief.

Oh, and we're not him. That sucks too. :):)

Sorry Troy, you had to go

Tell these snoopy reporters to back off

One of the local guys on radio today was talking about this DK article, said it was well known in media circles Troy hasn't been happy with the direction the team is taking.

Relayed this Troy quote
"..when I got here this locker room was full of men, now it is full of entitled children..."

I don't understand the shooting the Troy messenger going on in this thread.
There have been thousands of posts on this forum in the last few years expressing the same sentiment as the DK article.
But now one of the most respected and revered Steeler of all times basically corroborates that those posts were in the ball park and he is given the "don't let the door hit your *** on the way out treatment"?
Accusing him of not following the "Steeler Way"?

is it
Team Troy vs Team AR2?
