Column: Big Ben fends off Steelers’ issues

There’s irony, there’s mad irony, and then there’s Ben Roethlisberger resolving off-the-field crises for the Steelers’ stars.

But oh, yeah, there was the franchise quarterback Tuesday morning, upon the opening of OTAs on the South Side, with plenty more on his plate than showing up Landry Jones in shorts once he faced the cameras and microphones.

What about Antonio Brown’s widely reported holdout threat?

“There was never a doubt in my mind he’d be here,” Roethlisberger responded when that was raised. “Because I talked to him, we joked about it … he didn’t know where it came from, but he said it wasn’t him. I believed him when he told me that. I know AB. I know where AB’s heart is. He took a lot of heat from the fans and the media, and that bothers him because he’s a fan guy. I think the passion he plays with shows that. He doesn’t want anybody, the fans or you guys, to think he wasn’t going to be here.”

What about Le’Veon Bell being set to miss the first three games of 2015 for that DUI?

“I’m not worried about Le’Veon. I know what he’s all about as a person, and I know he can be the league’s best running back.”

Bryant/Wheaton competition will just make the WR corps better overall, and sprinkle in Coates it will keep that group competitive.

I look forward to seeing how that shakes out, the pecking order.

I don't understand the meaning ,, the part about "92 has no pads on. because he is big,, he LOOKS like he has pads?

I have not read an article that tells us whether Jarvis even looks like he's put on any weight. Kinda troubling because if he did, I'm sure they'd report it. And what about Dri? Has he hit his growth spurt yet?

Salute the nation

I think he is standing around in one of the pictures taken today at mini camp and does not look like it to me, I am also not positive the picture is him but it can be viewed on the steelers site if you are so inclined with out subscribing.

It's of my opinion you don't necessarily have to add weight to get or be stronger. We will know soon enough if Jarvis is up to par this year..

Gerry Dulac also thinks Jarvis looks stronger in the upper body this year (from Steeler Nation Radio this morning).

Good to hear. Deebo and his trainers must have really put the kid through his paces. I saw a picture of him and Williams leaning against a car and he did look as big as, if not bigger than, Williams in the upper body. Thought my eyes might have been showing me what I wanted to see though.
