Kevin Colbert Sounds Questionable About Roethlisberger’s Return

Fuhrer Wolf also decreed that on Thanksgiving eve, one of the biggest nights for bars and restaurants, that you can not serve alcohol after 5 PM. So eat **** you small businesses. You thought you might actually have 1 good night of business to maybe carry you a few months and your wait staff thought they'd have a good night of tips to maybe finance a Merry Christmas. Well you thought wrong. So let it be written, so let it be done.

Funny how you guys bang on Wolfe, when he's doing more for you guys than Hogan in MD. At least the Steelers and Eagles have fans. MD has ZERO allowed at games now. The Rats nest is empty...

It actually makes more sense to me to allow no fans at all than to allow the arbitrarily low number that Wolfe allows. With as large as stadiums are in Pitt, Philly, and State College, you can easily allow 20K fans and be more socially distant than at a Walmart and you are outdoors.

Wolfe is also one of the Govs who ordered covid + patients to be sent into nursing homes. Coincidentally, the health secretary moved moved their mother out of a nursing home and into a hotel just before than order went into effect.

So, you're in effect one battered woman telling another to suck it up because "you're old man ain't as bad as mine,"

The citizens should be building gallows by all rights.

5K fans isn't enough. They could easily double or triple that by spreading, har har, fans around the stadium like the upper deck.

I would settle for 5k now.

Is there really a point of playing for home field anymore? I don’t see any advantage of playing in an empty stadium in the playoffs. If you ask the players, I bet they’d all prefer to play in KC in front of 15k fans.

It’s pretty clear that Roethlisberger plays better at Heinz Field. Don’t discount all the other factors outside of crowd noise

Good write up Justin thanks.

The jury is still out on this, to me anyways. I know a few whom have died from the C-19 and it isn't a good thing.

Myself, I never made any plans on going to a STEELERS game this year and probably won't next year either. I catch / watch / replay a lot of STEELERS games / highlights / talk / etc.. I don't think going to a game with 2500- 5000 would be nearly the same and not spending the BIG$$$$bucks to do so.

I respect each's decision and those that do go, safety your way.

Salute the nation

Can appreciate your view. I know of 2 who died due to the disease.

While both were in extremely poor health for periods of time and the quality of their life at the time is an each their own view....

I have been to the funeral of a suicide as friend lost his business and hope (per note).

I was there when another slit her wrists trying to keep order while ambulance was coming because of all the problems this caused.

I have had displeasure of watching another become addicted to drugs — and had to call my Uncle about his step son’s death due to overdose. I’ve no idea if it’s related to shutdown .... just had to give him a call.

We will all die. You take a risk walking out the door and even more driving your car.

What matters most is what you do ether time you have. It can be taken from you any day and you honestly easily could have nothing to do with it’s causation.

There are things far worse than dying. Perhaps you’re lucky enough (or IMPE...unlucky enough... not to have experienced them). Just never forget the people suffering from everything.

And if you need any more obvious proof of the hypocrisy of it all....ask yourself if this game would already have been cancelled if it were week 5?

Seriously, the Steelers should announce they will play the rest of their home games in West Virginia. Not that far away and you can actually make this move because it's not like you are screwing over the fans by moving the games. There are no fans if you play in Pitt.

The Pittsburgh Steelers don’t seem to be any closer to a final decision on the return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. General Manager Kevin Colbert spoke with the local media today and gave some interesting quotes to the ongoing saga.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert doesn't give a strong endorsement for Ben Roethlisberger as QB in 2021: "As we sit here today, Ben is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. … He reiterated to us that he wants to continue to play. We told him we have to look at this current situation."

— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) February 17, 2021

This is the quote that if you read between the lines, sounds really bad. This gives the sense that there is a good chance Roethlisberger won’t play for the Steelers in 2021. With a franchise quarterback, you should never have to specify that “right now” he is our quarterback. For Colbert to throw in the phase “as we sit here today,” really tells me that one side is not set in stone on the other. Take the Jared Goff situation into consideration. Sean McVay was asked after their postseason defeat if Goff is their quarterback, and he said, “Yes, he’s our quarterback right now.” Again using keywords talking about the period of time they are in at that exact moment.

More Colbert: "Ben Roethlisberger did a lot of really good things last year. We anticipate that he could still do really good things going forward. Hopefully we can figure out how to do what’s best for the organization and for Ben. Hopefully he’ll be able to see that." https://t.co/9cVUDd6QJx

Colbert does state he thinks Roethlisberger is still capable to perform well next season but continues to use words that cast doubt. Whenever a team has to use the phrase “best for the organization” you know a not so popular move is coming in the near future.

Kevin Colbert also declines to say if they met with Roethlisberger last week. Says figuring out the situation is ongoing.

"It involves the players around him. I’m sure he’s going to to want to see what type of team we can keep together under our current situation."

This is the quote I don’t necessarily understand. 100% of free agency starts with Roethlisberger. If he is truly waiting to see what the Steelers can do in terms of who they retain/bring in, the first step in that process is reworking his contract. The issue with this is, if he isn’t happy with the players, would he just retire? No point in the Steelers reworking a contract with the intent he is playing, only for him to turn around and bid them farewell.

All in all, Colbert’s quotes didn’t due much outside rejuvenate the speculation on Roethlisberger’s return. At this point, I would just like the whole saga to be done with so as a fan we can have a clear indication of the team moving forward.
