Going to be some disappointed fans.

I'm one of them. I have closer interactions with people at work, at the grocery store, and even hiking this summer than I have at any game at Heinz Field this year. It's an arbitrary number without any consideration of the actual physical distancing going on in and around the stadium. Have there been a major problem with outbreaks among spectators at sporting events throughout any of this? I haven't read about any but would love to see the science-based evidence that 5,500 spectators have lead to widespread outbreaks of COVID that led to this number.

I read a lot. I haven't read anything that makes me link attendance at Heinz Field to a resultant problem. I think it is all projection based. Outside of the Steelers there has been issues in Dallas if I remember correctly.

Going to be an electric atmosphere for playoffs lol. I know football with no fans is better than nothing but man, it just isn’t the same. It’s a bland product IMO.

In an article from November 20th, it is said 8 fans have been traced to have COVID. There has been no published follow up if any spread came from those fans. Dallas averages over 25,000 fans per game.

Wait..what? Is this the Governor’s mandate or the Mayor’s? What about Philly?

8 huh that is peanuts.

Stupid and arbitrary....

This is my problem with it. Provide me with the evidence-based research that 5% of a 70,000 seat stadium (or 2,000 people) is safe. I bet there are more people walking the sidewalks in downtown during the work week than anything remotely close to 5,500 spread out at Heinz Field.

downtown? or dah'ntah'n?

Is there really a point of playing for home field anymore? I don’t see any advantage of playing in an empty stadium in the playoffs. If you ask the players, I bet they’d all prefer to play in KC in front of 15k fans.

I hate it but what is the alternative not seeing them play at all? These games have helped me this season stay sane.

Good write up Justin thanks.

The jury is still out on this, to me anyways. I know a few whom have died from the C-19 and it isn't a good thing.

Myself, I never made any plans on going to a STEELERS game this year and probably won't next year either. I catch / watch / replay a lot of STEELERS games / highlights / talk / etc.. I don't think going to a game with 2500- 5000 would be nearly the same and not spending the BIG$$$$bucks to do so.

I respect each's decision and those that do go, safety your way.

No doubt. You won’t even goto a game next year? I’m hoping there’s full stadiums but I’ll surprised if they’re even half full. I know there are vaccines but man, this thing doesn’t seem like it’s going anywhere.

Home field advantage has definitely been compromised this season, but the bye week being available for only one team is the more important factor for the Steelers at this point.

What if that gets taken away? There’s a lot of talk of an 8th playoff team and removal of the bye.

Let's hope not. Either way, I'd still prefer the game to be in Pittsburgh.
