Saw some comments on the Benny Snell thread and just thought this guy's production and potential justified his own thread. Gotta say I was excited when he basically started the game against the Cards and disappointed that he didn't play more. He's averaging 6.7 YPC and injects a speed element that our offense is sorely lacking. I realize he may not be the blocker that some of our other backs are and Tomlin is loathe to trust rookies and players he is not familiar with but we gotta get him on the field more; fast, elusive, he's a big play waiting to happen which is more than I can say about the rest of our RB stable.

He doesn't have a lot of *** so you have to be careful how his carries are distributed. But I wouldn't mind him getting some of Jaysam's run carries.

The kid has some speed and vision...only 200lbs but a very nice option for a few touches per game.

8-12 would be a better number. Combine his + Jsam's (2/3 of his). Quit end rounds with Benny and use him between the tackles but also call BENNY plays between tackles but spread the D so there aren't 8-9 in the box. Delayed draws / actual tackle elgible pass / 2 back set & in motion/ , yaz DIG

He has talent, but he isn't built for anything more than a limited role. He's listed at 200lbs, but he looks about 20lbs lighter than that.

Not sure why we all fixate on the stature of a RB. There have been plenty of successful smaller sized backs in the league. If he has the heart and speed to bring another weapon to the squad give him the touches and see what he can do. If he can't produce, is injured or doesn't protect the ball that is the only reason to cut back on touches, not because he doesn't weigh a certain weight.

This is a Steeler board though, the same fans that get excited over Fatbacks like Duece Staley and Legarette Blount.
While showing no love for the speedsters like Fast Willie Parker.
Size doesn't mean everything, sometimes it means nothing like in Parker's case. At
At 5'10, 209 he was super durable for the better part of 3 seasons and was leading the league in rushing before he got hurt in week 15, (2007). Ahead of Ladanian Tomlinson and some other very good RBs.
Alot of the greats were smaller, Tomlinson, Lesean Mccoy, Frank Gore are all considered undersized backs.
James Conner is listed at 6-2 233, he's always injured and runs with no power?
I want to see what Whyte is all about, I know its a small sample size but a 4.2 40yard dash is unbelievably rare in this league.
As Parker showed us speed kills, imagine Parker 2.0?
I know that never going to happen but that doesn't mean Whyte can't have a successful career, and help the Steelers.
The guy is electric and a lot of fun to watch. I get excited when I see him in game. I too want to see him in there a bit more, but size does matter in certain situations such as blitz pickup and gut type runs. I don't see the guy as a full time starter, but absolutely a guy who can bring an element to the game that we really need. I actually want to see him catch a swing pass or two...get him in space and see what he does.
I think he and Cain have already shown they should be on the short list to make the team next year. Both have done well with very limited practice time.

Like what he has shown so far lets hope Tomlin sees it and gives him more time on the field. Size doesn't matter isn't that what we always hear or maybe say

The guy has a serious burst and he's agile. Protecting the football would be my biggest worry with him. He certainly has the ability to take one to the house. Aint nobody catching that dude from behind if gets those jets full speed in the open.
The great Barry Sanders.....listed at 203#,Christian McCaffrey listed at 203. I am not saying he is as great as these guys. But that weight has certainly been proven to be successful.

And Muggsy Bouges played in the NBA at 5'3". You can always find outliers that defy the odds. There are plenty of examples of lack of success. I think durability, ball security, blitz pickups, and gut runs are all valid concerns. But, we are splitting hairs here because there are very few "perfect" players. I don't think anyone here thinks the guy isn't going to be successful or doesn't want to see more of him. I know I want to see more of him - best afterburner in the backfield we haven't seen since Willie Parker. Damn right I want him to excel.
