Kelvin Beachum is the most penalized tackle in the entire NFL with five penalties for 38 yards over a three-game span. More astoundingly, he's the 13th most-penalized player in the entire league in terms of yardage and second in terms of number. That's right, he has more penalties than a lot of defensive backs prone to costly pass-interference penalties.

Beachum had three penalties in Week 1, none in Week 2, and then two in Week 3 against the Rams. This past week he was called for illegal use of hands and offensive holding.

Better to find out now before he and his agent demand top 5 LT money and we're silly enough to pay him. I really do think now that the Steelers view him as a stopgap until we can replace him. The question is who and how do you replace him? Do we spend a first round pick on the position when there's still plenty of work to be done on defense or maybe through free agency.

I wouldn't go that far. I was under the impression the Steelers think very highly of Beachum. Tough to go from "long term LT" to "stopgap" because of penalties in the first 3 games of the season

this might send him back to earth, not asking for the moon in his coming contract

We can't afford franchise money at LT. Not with the projected cap space in 2016.

The best solution might be to move Gilbert to LT in 2016. Gilbert is playing like a PRO BOWL man right now, than let Villanueva / Adams / Draft pick battle it out for the RT spot.

Beachum as been beaten a few times this year. But a false start and an illegal formation are mental mistakes.

Gilbert doesn't have the speed to play LT, you would weaken two positions moving him, rather give Villanueva the chance at LT if Beachum can't be kept for decent kind of money.
Next year Cortez Allen can be cut after june 1st and will only cost 1,5 M against the cap, saving more than 5 M. That will help,

Gilbert has been tried at LT and not so good. I don't think that's a good solution. Beachum is ok at LT. He's not the worst by no means but the position could most definitely be improved upon.

Beachum is an ok LT. Really, I think the true value with him is his ability to play any position on the OL. I mean the way I feel about him is kind of 50/50. If we re-sign him it wouldn't make me unhappy. If we were to let him walk and upgrade through the draft or F/A it wouldn't make me unhappy either. I don't have the same feeling for him as I do De Castro who is a must sign or Pouncey who is one of the best centers in the game. He's the classic overachiever and I don't mean that in a bad way but I do think we can improve over him. What I do not want to see happen is the Steelers overpaying this guy.

Define speed? This report says he has good mobility. Gilbert also played LT in college.

Sign him cheaper and then we can keep DeCastro. Many had us signing Beachum and not DeCastro.

Hey Coach, Cite your sources, otherwise it's plagiarism.

Perhaps Beachum isn't as much of a priority to sign as we thought. The Steelers did not make him a top 5 offer, and if he keeps playing this way, he won't get it. I personally would let Foster walk and would love to have Beach as LG next year and Villa at LT. Just my opinion.

Its a classic case of trying to hard in a contract year... sometimes it helps a player and sometimes it hurts him... some of those penalties werent really on him... the first false start was total BS by the pats. The illegal formation wasnt really on him either... As for the Rams game he was getting abused by a steallar Dline, and we couldnt help him because wallace was in worse shape... im not worried about him...yet

Move him to Guard and he can be the new Willie Colon.

He doesn't want an extension now, he wants to go Joe Flacco and test the FA market after the season for more money than he will get here. I would make him a fair offer but chances are that someone will offer more than the Steelers can pay under the cap.

doubtful...... would you if you were he?

Or Tombert could trade Ben, start Vick who is left-handed which makes the RT more important, and any jabroni can play LT.
You might think I'm kidding but that thought might occur in the FO.

Gilbert was a disaster at LT. I haven't watched him much at RT this year but last year they gave him a ton of help with TEs and even Adams playing the very common RTII position. Beachum needs to get his **** together. He seems frustrated because he knows this is his audition for mo' $$$$.

doubtful...... would you if you were he?

probably not but maybe his tape shows other teams to not throw top 5 money to him and then maybe we can sign him

The rams have so many good rushers that they can flip them around, Foster and Wallace were just pushed around so badly nethier gave beachum any help.
