I think I'm going to wait to see how this season plays out before judging Khan's drafting to this point.

There are still questions about exactly how good Broderick Jones, Joey Porter, Keanu Benton and Troy Fautanu are going to be.

They've shown flashes to this point, but that has been about it.

I do not think Khan has done a bad job through his first few years by any means, but I just do not yet get the love affair that many have with him.

Colbert's first few years in the early 2000s were far stronger, IMO.

Contrary to the talking heads, I don’t think TJ is going anywhere except here permanently.

He will get a 5 yr deal worth 204mil 5th yr voidable / 116mil guaranteed.

I must respect this opinion the most as the only one in the thread that spelled his name properly.

In all seriousness he’s made a few decent trades, Claypool was a huge victory!!!

and also a few poor trades that were simply a waste of draft capital. Seems he and Tomlin weren’t in lockstep with the additions last year (that scarcely even saw the field even when their services were desperately needed).

Was this a case of Tomlin’s fear of adding passengers to a moving train?
Did he simply not want the players in the first place?
Blind stubbornness and inability to change mixed with loyalty…aka the Steeler way?

You’re spot on with the draft picks.
I like the direction of addressing the trenches/LOS which was a serious need. Will the players be the answer? Still waiting on that.
So far just flashes from all of those earlier picks.
He needs to hit a few outta the park or there will be a gap in top end talent on the roster.
But at least he prevailed in addressing an obvious deficiency that has been an issue for years.
Hopefully he and Weidl found some solutions.

We’ve carried less dead money and got some meh QBs below perceived market value to keep pasting the pieces together as they half heartedly search for Ben’s successor. So as far as cap management I think he’s done well (expected for a guy who is basically a $$$ guy).

Next year will be huge for him.
Are they able to retain Weidl?
Will he finally hit that homer?
Will that Homer be on a QB?

Lotta questions to clear up to define how successful he has been/will be. Here’s to hoping this extension is better than the extension they handed out last year…a bullet proof roster will be required to contend for anything meaningful.

The Claypool trade was maybe his best move to date.

I also like the emphasis on the trenches early in the draft, something that the Steelers just stopped doing with Colbert at GM for whatever reason. We're kind of still waiting on those investments to pan out, though.

I do think he kind of **** the bed last year by not properly addressing WR2 after trading Diontae Johnson, and honestly, it's still a big question mark.

Though Jonnu Smith will definitely help the passing game, he isn't a WR2, no matter how much we wish it to be so.

As I said, Khan hasn't done a bad job overall, but I'm not sure the results so far warrant the kind of praise he generally receives.
 
I agree with most replies here.
The “khan artist,” is leftover from the clay pool trade that everyone but Chicago knew was robbery.

But I don’t think you have to be flashy to be good. Funny enough, trying to be flashy I think is what got us in a hole in the first place.

I look at khans work and I’m excited because for the first time in a long time, this team is building through the trenches. We have seemingly tried to get rid of the bad attitudes and toxic personalities while drafting more character guys and hard nose players.

You can’t change an entire roster in 3 years, but khan and co have come darn close.

It’s much easier to look at 25 years later than 3.
To level set, I agree.
But, I think I read somewhere that khan has made 10 picks in rounds 1-3 so far, and all 10 are set to be contributors this year.
Far from hall of famers, but that’s a pretty dang good hit rate.

I woke up this morning and watched Jonnu's hype video (find it on the interweb of you're interested) and something tells me we're going to be pleasantly surprised with this new addition.

Smith has the size and speed to play WR2, TE or slot WR.

Prayfully, the offensive playbook will look like an NFL-style playbook (this year) and not the middle school playbook from Emerson Elementary...
 
Berm if we had an offensive minded inventive coach I’d be a lot more excited about Smith. McDaniels showed his potential.

The results last year were under a guy that knows Xs and Os and how to scheme guys open/utilize a unique skill set. He put up career numbers as a result.

In his past time under Arthur Smith (a likely more accurate representation of what we’ll see)
he averaged about 40-45 catches 450 yards and 4.5 TDs. Factor in him being Tomlinized and ya likely get 35 350 and 3.5….or maybe Rodgers can overcome the Tomcepts and keep him around his previous Arthur Smith production? It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

If he is seeing a massive number of targets like he did with Miami what does Muth’s production look like?

Is Washington even a TE anymore with those 2 or does he become Banner (the 6th OL)?

So many questions as to how all these puzzle pieces will fit together and what the picture will become.

I think with Rogers throwing Austin or maybe Wilson will emerge as wr2. I'd say 1100 for Metcalf. 850 for receiver 2 and the rest by committee and matchup. I think Warren will have a big year catching. Maybe more then 400.

A bold prediction that the new rookie RB will have more receiving yards than Warren.

One thing though, they took the pass away from the Najee arsenal so Johnson might get cuffed in that regards.
