Justin Houston released (Steelers may be negotiating with him)

Would be great if we signed him, of course that would mean Dupree would be sitting on the bench for 9 million unless we trade him or something, not sure how they would handle the Dupree situation.

See Shazier for reference

Talk is Steelers contacted his agent to get a feel as to what he's asking price. Significantly over what Steelers or any one else will offer. So teams are waiting for him to start dropping his asking price. The Ravens have too many other needs to fill and a draft class to sign before they can afford Houston. Unless he takes a FA minimum with loads of incentives. Thing is, Pitt will have at least 70 mill available next year once AB''s and the others are off the books. Could still entice Houston though.....but would doubt it.

I have some empty Budweiser bottles we can use to trade him with...

We’re not paying Dupree $9M to be a backup. Houston will be a Raven, Patriot or Colt.

I hear the Jets/Bears/Rats have the most cheese available,

But a Big Ben restructure and the Steelers could have more cheese than the rats.

AND restructure Dupree with up front money and why the hell did that 9 mil get committed and not cut / sign on a more friendly deal than the 5th nyear option..............where the HELL was Khan when allo this happened................ Maybe swimming at the YMCA or something???

Salute the nation

Actually the Colts have more cheese than anybody. hell, have they even signed anyone with that 100+ million they have. I can't remember the Defense that they play. I thought they switched to a 4-3 last year.

Reports are Dupree refused to restructure. They could've released Dupree prior to the 13th and saved the 9 million towards trying to sign Houston, the problem is there's no guarantee they can sign Houston, so then you're left with a position to fill at OLB if he can't be signed. That's the Steelers thinking anyway. Personally I think Dupree's production can be replaced without too much difficulty so I would've rolled the dice.

Hell, there isn't much of a drop off, if any, when Chicklo is in the game for Dupree. If he refused to restructure into a longer deal, I would have said don't let the door hit ya in the *** on the way out.

Couldn't agree more, anyone could replace Dupree's production, hell it would be tough not to.

You have a link for the reports of Dupree refusing to restructure?

If I were Dupree I would refuse it, he knows those 9M are already his so why lose them?
If he is mediocre this season he still will get around 5M next season from any team but if he thrives there will be a big contract going his way.

The FO lost all leverage when they gave him the 5th year

And their star ILB and another solid LBer.

They took some hits. Then brought in Thomas who in name is impressive, but has had a lot of injuries of late. Really rolling the dice there. Not that a healthy Earl wouldn't be attractive if those injuries didn't take their toll.

Dupree might have refused an offer, but he wouldn't absolutely refuse to restructure. Any restructure could have included a signing bonus that exceeded his 2019 salary.
I'm not sure the Steelers want to restructure anyway. They might want 1 and done. They pay the 2019 penalty because they didn't draft his replacement last year.

They coulda ditched him before the League Year and been out $0 cap dollars. IMO, if he had refused to re-negotiate, they would have dropped him.

of course they could, but they didn't

I think we draft his replacement within first 4 rounds and they alternate playing time before year end, giving us decent ROLB play for 2019.

of course they could, but they didn't

if they offered him something like $13m guaranteed with a 3-year contract he might renegotiate. Just have to make sure whatever guaranteed money you give him is more than $9m

Dupree should have been cut anlong time ago. A wasted 1st pick along with Burns
