Justin Houston released (Steelers may be negotiating with him)

Ok. Thanks. I subtracted what they paid him and what was left and came up with 7 million. Not gonna happen people. Love it to. Maybe if they had cut ties with Jarvis Dupree.
You are missing the big picture, no one gave even a 7th because no one was paying those 15M. He knows he has to take less than that, and I mean seriously less after injuries affected his performance and being 30 years old.

We could sign him up for 8-10M/Y

And not that this is anything concrete, but @JHouston50 is now following new Steeler Steven Nelson, plus a few other Steelers players.

Ugh, I screwed up, those are people that are following him. Joe Haden is the only one he follows and has been for a while.

:rain:

FWIW, now also in the revolving rumor mill are Jamie Collins and Jared Cook.

Jared Cook? Beast, but isn't he a little long in the tooth for the Steelers liking (and wouldn't come cheap)?

I guess Collins would be better than what we have, but the Browns didn't like his lack of big plays.

I’m all for guys like Houston, Collins, and Cook filling holes so we can go all in on BPA in the draft. This could end up being an epic draft for us with more picks than usual and higher standing than usual. Gotta make the best of it

Houston should tell the Brownies to go @#$% themselves. The Brownies traded their 3rd round pick (the one the Chiefs used to select Houston) in 2011 as part of a deal to move up 5 spots in the draft and select the incredibly mediocre Phil Taylor. Brownies had their chance and should @#$% off.

Houston, probably, using us to up other offers.

please don't bring up Jamie Collins I re3searched watched film he was ranked as the best all around 3-4 olb I wanted us to trade to top of rnd 2 take him but mt had a such a hard on for Jarvis even with the medical red flags from usc and horrid 40 time.

Agree 100% with those pointing out that the Steelers have 9 draft picks, and most of those are pick 83 and later. In my opinion the Steelers should package their two 3rd round picks to move into the middle of the 2nd round. Pick 66 from the Raiders has a value of 260 points, and pick 83 has a value of 175 points for a total of 435 points.

The equivalent point value is pick 46, the 14th pick of the 2nd round. That would give the team 3 picks in the top 52.

Take a look at the past 8 or so drafts, and see how many top-tier players were taken after pick 52. Hint - they are definitely out there, but are pretty rare. The Steelers for example have taken guys like Mike Adams, Sean Spence, Chris Rainey, Markus Wheaton, Shamarko Thomas, Dri Archer, Martavis Bryant, Shaquille Richardson, Jordan Zumwalt, Senquez Golson, Sammie Coates, Doran Grant, Jesse James, Leterrius Walton, Javon Hargrave, Jerald Hawkins, Travis Feeney, and the two very sterling picks later than 55 - Juju Smith-Schuster, a second rounder, and James Conner, a 3rd.

Point being that the myriad of picks 83 and later have a vastly reduced rate of return. Package those picks to target three impact players in the first 2 rounds - an ILB, a CB and a WR, for example. Or an ILB, TE, and CB.

Mosely can't cover either. For the price he will want to be paid, we need a guy that can cover. We'd be better off looking at the Ravens RFA guy they think makes Mosely expendable and giving them our 2nd round pick. Or making them match our offer.
I respect that. He's a run stuffer...

I haven’t lost hope maybe the restructuring came before they were ready not knowing he would be available

Those boys over at 247 sports aren't all that bright if they haven't retracted that article yet (I realized it was the Steelers players following Houston and not the other way around last night) and somebody's still spelling it Pittsburg.

Expectations lowered considerably now. Would love for it to happen though of course.

I feel sorta the same way, but the fact that there’s been next to no interest in him by this point is certainly interesting. When the fiasco happened with Elvis Dumervil, he was signed in a matter of minutes. Something is up here. Now, whether it means he signs here, or he’s got some skeletons in his closet that is keeping teams away from him is another matter.

Huston is giving the Steelers time to move around their cap concerns. I think a deal may be done but just a wait on restructures. Maybe not but it’s as good as any therory here................

Salute the nation

I like your theory DIC. :flag:
