Juju Smith-Schuster. A rising star. Compare his game to past or current greats

A more athletic version of Boldin.
He's Boldin/Hines.

JuJu will be on the play even when he doesn't have the ball.
What nice pick. I wasn't happy at first back in April.

But I'll eat my crow

People may not like it, but he's Michael Irvin. Big and physical, can block and run after the catch. Plays faster than timed speed. Juju is more of a big play threat than Bolden. He not quite as tall as Owens, Not as tall or fast as Fitzgerald.

Irvin is probably the closest match

Pleasantly surprised with the burst/speed Ju Ju has. ALL the scouting gurus/draftniks discounted his speed and made it seem like he was a bit of a plodder. Dude actually pulls away from DBs in the open field.

I was curious so I looked up Jerry Rice's and Anquan Boldin's 40 times, and they are 4.71 (according to google search). JuJu's was 4.54, not really slow. But you're right, there's a football speed and Jerry Rice had it, Anquan Boldin had it, Larry Fitzgerald had it and JJSS has it.

Except when JuJu speaks, I can actually understand what he's saying.

think he was drafted in 2015. so they had an idea that he was a bust
You are correct, it was 2015, I'm just saying Im not even sure Wr was on the radar then, I don't even think they drafted a wr in the draft. They seem happy going after retreads.

JuJu was a luxury pick where we actually drafted the BPA. Many were thinking, we didn't need a WR this early, but man was the team right here. I was on the Goodwin ship also, thinking we may take him in the 2nd. We grabbed JuJu, and the reason why you take a WR this high? Excellent blocker, Returner (so usable on special teams early), and had good hands in college.

2 things I will always look for in drafts: Drop Rate of WRs, and Completion percentage of QBs. If you're exceptional in both, it translates to the next level.

The only thing I disagree with is I don't see the Fitz comparisons. Fitz has the softest hands of any receiver in the league (including AB). Watching him catch a ball is like watching someone catch a tennis ball with 2 pillows. The way his hands give on contact with the ball is the perfect example of what is referred to as "soft hands". JuJu is not that. He's more aggressive, and his hand placement can get wonky at times, but he is not a pass dropper, and that's the last thing you want on 3rd downs.

His demeanor in games is what surprises me the most. Nothing is too big for this guy. Started off splitting snaps with Eli in the slot. Then took the slot job. Then showed his run blocking prowice. Then got snaps in 2WR and 1WR sets. Gets called out by the 2nd WR, and has the game of his life starting as the Z. AB gets hurt and he picks up the slack. Throw him at KR, and we get a TD. Nothing is too big for this kid. He's not playing like a rookie, he runs great patterns, he doesn't take plays off, and if he doesn't get the ball, he's looking to make a big block downfield.

JuJu is his own receiver. People will start making comparisons for JuJu and trying to draft a JuJu type player. I have never seen a better rookie receiver with an all-around game that he has. This kid is special, and having him on the field with our receiving weapons, just turned the tables in our favor this season.

Great player. A team player. No job is too big or small for him. I can't remember the last time i expected great things from a rookie. Maybe Big Ben when he got thrust into the line-up and I was like "wow" this guy has it.

He's probably my fave Steeler at the moment too!

I will say this. People outside of Steeler fans do not like JuJu. My buddy, who is a comedy writer, and used to write excellent football articles (Quick Inside Slant), stated at our college friend's Christmas party, that he has a new least favorite player in the league. He saw the hit on Burfict as egregious, and the taunting afterward as unacceptable. I agree on the taunting, and chalked it up to immaturity. He is a rookie. Then he reenacts it for a TD celebration. That was classless, and I have no defense for that.

I think he will grow up from these instances, because that is the only thing holding him back from being a fan favorite across the league. Personally, I can see how he got caught up in the moment by laying a huge hit on a player that has knocked all of our Killer Bs from games at one time or another. There is justification to that point of view.

It's just that, thanks to Gruden, JuJu is painted as dirty player outside of our fans.

I saw all of that as justice served. A little goes around comes around. For the record I hate most of the garbage rules of engagement for defense. I have no issue with any juju did. The taunting just gets a penalty and that can't happen.

I like the Bolden with better long speed comparison. Im surprised at his ability to seperate and maintain distance with persuit.

He's a Hines Ward clone. Depending on what sites you look at Ward was listed as 6' or 6'1", 210lbs. JuJu is listed as 6'2" or 6'1" 215lbs. Both guys were said to be possession WR guys, tough, and neither were said to have good speed, but both made guys play fast and had long plays where they weren't caught from behind.

I remember in 2006 when Hines lost his shoe and out ran DeAngelo Hall for a TD

The taunting was a heat of the moment penalty.
Especially against a guy with a rep like Burfict, I bet a veteran would've made that taunt as well.

The re-enactment of the taunt during the TD celebration was a bit unclassy, but JuJu is very young.
I think his intentions were more toward giving a middle finger to the league for suspending him.

I don't think he's a hated kid at all Cope.
Opposing fans do have a backlash towards other teams players.

But I agree with Steelr4evr, justice :/

The combine is the combine. But if im coach or chief scout I want to see you run in pads. Juju is proof positive.

He gets caught from behind, he's just too big to bring down, or he throws the defenders to the ground with stiff arms. This kid is a BEAST!

Our #2 and #3 wr's sure as hell didn't help us in the AFCCG last year

If memory serves. Bell went out of the game early, and Bryant was out for pot. Brown was recovering from a head shot. We were down 10-0, and the defense gave up 36 points.

Chris Hogan: 9 catches, 180 yards, 2 TD. Who was covering him?

If the Steelers had Bell and Haden, the game could have been different.
