JPJ Contract

I don't know why, but I never really liked JPJ. I see him as a good not great corner who acts like he is great.

I trade him for a 1st and 3rd.
I take the 2 1st rounders and what ever else to go up and get our next franchise QB.

I draft the best CB in the 2nd round.

With all the draft capital put into the OL, it is time to get the franchise QB to put behind it.

Advanced analytics are used when determining player contracts. Reports claim that McCarthy has cameras all over the practice field. Tomlin didn't use cameras or analytics. It was all gut feel.

This input hasn't been discussed here by the experts. Do any of you know what analytics are most important to negotiators? Are some worth more than others? Why didn't Tomlin use it? Teams and contract negotiators use this tool, but if there is no data ( Tomlin) how can you compare?

Explain your position.
Well there r always 2 sets of negotiators right? And Joey's side is without question gonna be using Joey's metrics and frankly from an analytics standpoint he's ELITE. I keep going back in my head between ah he's gonna get 27 to 28 and fucknit they are gonna flop 30 on his ***.......there is a case to be made for that

Name me a "good" corner that gets a first and 3rd. Great players generally get that much capital

And Blitz......I think this is all interesting. I really do believe, how people feel about a guy does affect what they think of their performance.

Outside of his on field play what do people REALLY not like about the guy? Let's be brutally honest....curious what people would say

I am lazy and asked chatgpt whst the Steelers could expect in a trade for him

But alot of people think he is great. Just need 1 gm of the 31bother teams to think so

BTW .......I dont particularly care for JPJs personality. I'll never buy his jersey and as much as I have defended him here deserving elite pay its not like I've been feeling this way for a while. I've always known he's very good. I just saw this thread and really wanted to dig in to the details. I'm an obsessed googler........I think it's a mental ocondition lmao

I'm telling you the more I researched Joey from a metrics standpoint the more shocked I was. Hes f-ing good.

Agreed. I just think it is time to go get a franchise qb. We should do everything and anything to make this happen.
The more draft capital they can muster up the better. Don't want to trade Joey or highsmith but if that is what it takes to get the next Ben, have at it

We do have Ramsey anyway....no need for Porter and his one TD given up in his career. 🥴

I don't see why there is so much dislike for the young man. Maybe because is of his dad. I don't know. Whether he deserves $28 mill plus a year or not. He isn’t getting in trouble on or off the field. No more flamboyant or cocky than any other player.

I think the refs have called flags on him on half his flags that other CBs are not. He follows the number one WR all over the field.

Earlier I stated he starts his negotiating at around $30 mill. I still stand by that. If he signs it might be for lower. Heck. His starting point might be higher.

I wonder where Herbig's starting number was? I can't imagine it being any where near $25 mill. I would have laughed at anyone who suggested he would get the contract that he did before he signed it.

This 100 times.

I’m not necessarily saying trade Porter but you half to give up capital to move up for a QB soon since we probably won’t ever be drafting in the top 10

The 2026 draft had 1 legit QB that got taken #1 and the Raiders weren’t going to trade that pick, so I get why they couldn’t do it this year, but if it’s a good QB class in 2027 you pick your guy and give up significant capital to move up and get him.

Yes he could flop but you half to try

So what do you get for a non top 10 CB on the verge of free agency? I mean if everyone else sees him as you see him.....if this is part of the "capital" that we give up.....to move up.

Unfortunately we can't say how those players you wanted instead of the OLman would have turned out in the scheme/system that we ran here. You just might be showing them same disappointment for them that you have for Joey.
That could certainly be true. However, I'm not disappointed with Porter -- I just don't think overall he's played well enough (yet) to command top dollar at his position.

I wasn’t saying trade Porter necessarily, I think I made that pretty clear, I was speaking to needing to move up to get a long term solution at QB

I also think I’ve made it pretty clear I want Porter resigned

You just described the trade value for a great corner.

I would rather move the glutton of high price OLBers that we have. Especially with Sawyer looking good up to this point.

Also...

Agreed.....That is why I asked what you think we could get for Porter if we "did use him as Capitol".......since your stock is low on him I just wanted to see what you thought we could get for him. that is all. Nothing nefarios.

The market probably will say otherwise....or not. We will see. Especially if talk about Benton getting $20 to $25 mill are true.

We brought in A A ron(again). Traded for 2 WRs and gave them extensions where we over paid them. Extended Muth a few years ago and then never threw to him. Just extended Washington to big $$$$...Extended Watt to a horrible deal. Just gave a back up LBer $25 mill contract. As I said before...where did talks start at on the $$$$ front? This front office is doing everything that you shouldn't if your goal is get a franchise QB in the draft. They are all in at the moment. This ownership believes we are a TRUE CONTENDER.......We are doing the exact opposite to put us in a position to get a franchise QB via the draft. It is what it is.

If the Steelers keep overspending like a drunken sailor on the defensive side of the ball, then they are going to continue to handicap their ability to secure a true franchise QB. That's not going to be good for anybody.

Agreed. They are refusing to do a rebuilt.....Ownership is in a win now mode. They believe we are a true SB contender.

Correct. I think that belief is wayward, however, because they Steelers are just not good enough to even get through a tough AFC. Maybe if they had the Rodgers from 5+ years ago, they could compete. But they don't. They have a much older and slower version, playing behind an unproven offensive line.

With this continued overspending, sooner or later they are going to back themselves into a corner they won't be able to recover from. And then it will be full-on rebuild mode at that point.

Perhaps McCarthy can pull a rabbit out of his anus, prove me wrong, and the Steelers somehow run the gauntlet this year. Maybe he can get much, much more out of what he inherited. Even managing to appear in the AFC Championship game would be quite an accomplishment, and it would only further go to show what a fraud Tomlin was/is.

I don’t think me saying he’s not a top 10 corner, saying id like to have him signed long term, and saying he signs for 20 million plus is low stock

But tomatoe tamatoe…

Ok. Fair enough. That said.....what do you think a fair trade would be for him.....via draft picks?

Not sure I agree on this. If you mean they will never be bad enough to draft top 10 then yeah I see that but I don’t know if spending on defense is the only reason they stay mediocre

I do think as stillright says their refusal to believe they can’t contend every year impedes it.

They need to bite the bullet and give up capital to move into the top 10 for their guy at QB when they have the chance
