Sounds like they are miles apart and I dont know how. Sauce Gardner got big money and is like a million AVA off top. Joey makes a strong case for as good as Sauce.

He's a bit early in his career for this, IMO. Is he worth paying very well to keep? Yes. Next year.

Just my very uninformed take.

There is time, this deal will get done.

This is a place the Kahn can excel and jog the numbers to work.

NOT worried yet………….

Salute the nation

I didn’t think it was going to be mission easy. He will get paid and paid well. Tough negotiations that will result in a contract. It just will take its due time.

Every time I hear Dulac say something I cringe. I swear that guy just makes **** up.

I think the team leaks stuff through the insiders a lot..

I mean if he is asking for franchise tag money, then tagging him is an option..
Yep roughly 23.69 million. Then he isn’t going anywhere. ( If it came to that obviously)

If you do that he will be gone year after. Im not saying he won't sign, but its very unnecessary drama. The Corner mark is crystal clear. There is one million ava btw Gardner and the guy the Chiefs traded to the Rams. You are paying in that gap. There is no way around that. He's as good or better the Gardner. Its like Real estate. Its simply comparables.

JPJ is one who is not a finished product. He can still get a little better, but he can also get back to being worse with how grabby he's been. I know he's been working on it and has shown some improvement this year. Will that continue is the question. I'm thinking they may be looking at him in the $20 million per range, which is very respectable, but his ego and his dad's probably have him thinking $30 million per, and that is just too much to throw at him. We shall see.

He is being overshadowed by his dad, much like Shedder in Cleveland. Its unnecessary to factor that in, but people do.

The cost will be too high in dollars and in media attention. Trade him while the trading market is good.

Those were the exact figures that Poni threw out on Twitter. I suppose if the goal is to meet in the middle, the Steelers start at $20 million, but that's not realistic for what Porter has shown.

First off both Pony and Dulac don’t know what’s going on with the contract. The Steelers aren’t about to provide details to these two nor is Porter’s agent. They have to talk and write about situations but sometimes take stuff too far without having any real knowledge about it.
As for Porter, don't make the same mistake as you did with Watt. Let him play his last year and see if he plays at an elite level. If he does franchise him and work on his contract while he’s franchised.
Now if he bombs, then you’ve dodged a bullet.
I like Porter but he hasn’t even made a pro bowl let alone all pro status. Our bar has been set so low for CB over the years that it doesn’t take much to get fans excited over Porter.
If he can continue to improve his game, cut down on the PI penalties then by all means, lock him up next off season. I’d like to see another season of Porter.
I’d use some of this money on Benton and lock him up now. Worry about Porter next offseason.

The danger here is that while Porter has been great, the Tomlin philosophy on outside CB responsibilities is gone with him, so if the steelers are worried about him transitioning into a defense that will ask more of those CBs, its at least understandable..

You give JPJ $30 million plus, and he very easily could digress a bit. It would be a huge f-up by the team. Paying him that kind of money means he still has to improve a good bit, as he currently is not a $30 million-plus player. Will he continue to improve? Do they take that gamble?

Personally, I think he has improved some and is in the good to very good area. He is not great. He is not a top 5 player and possibly not even top 10 and that's the gamble if you pay him $30 million.

There is no way you are getting him for 20. They paid Herbig 25. Gardner and Stingly make 30. The top makes 31. Hes gonna get 30. What are guarenteed are they gonna make.

I think Porter gets around 28 with a decent guarantee…
