Josh Dobbs. Fools gold or worth the wait?

I don't recall ANY mid to late round pick working out as the future, with the exception of NOD and Jim Miller who started for Chicago after leaving Pittsburgh, there has been NO other QB worth mentioning as decent. This is retroactive back to the Cowher/Donohoe days, so no different though Colbert era. I wouldn't be surprised if Ben decides to retire after 17, we make a play for Cousins who could fit right nicely in this offense.

Slash and Aggie are pretty objective posters, so I am not surprised this is a civil debate. HOWEVER-

We need to move this thread before those crazies in the "Politics & Religion" forum start to jump in.
I hate those lunatics.

I scouted him as almost an identical prospect to Dennis Dixon. Nothing has changed my mind this preseason.

I think he's a bit smarter and more mature than Dixon but that's not going to matter much. The talent/ability is about the same.

To me, it's another waste of a mid-round draft choice on a QB. Colbert's track record on this is horrendous. We basically get nothing out of them except 3rd stringers and MAYBE a game or two as a starting backup when people get hurt. And in those games forced to play, they pretty much suck balls. All of them go on to nothing careers or do anything anywhere else either, so it's not just because they are stuck behind Roethlisberger here.

The talent evaluation and what we "value" in the position seems really off. I really don't even get it. I guess I can understand a bit it you reach on a QB talent in the draft because his skill set matches our offense or what Haley/Arians/Cowher liked to do but I can't even make that argument in most cases.

I really think unless it's like a top-10 pick and the quarterback practically falls into our laps like Roethlisberger 2.0, this franchise is REALLY going to struggle at the position. And I'm not sure Martyball (or Cowherball) can really work anymore (or have faith we can build a physically imposing defense again to carry the team).

It was unpopular, but I was hoping Kizer would have fallen to them in the 2nd. Not saying they would have drafted him, but I think with a year or 2 to learn from Ben he would have been a more than serviceable replacement. I hope Dobbs can progress, but in the years I watched him up here in Knoxvile, his accuracy and decision making have been too questionable to hold out much hope.
