Jordan Berry deserves some love.

In a game that didn’t have many statistical stars, Jordan Berry may have been one of the Steelers' biggest playmakers. The second-year punter dropped a ridiculous six punts between the Bengals’ 13 and 5-yard lines, including four inside the 10. Berry’s display of accuracy put the Bengals under the shadow of their own goalposts several times throughout the game and helping the Steelers earn short fields on offense. Berry’s improvement has shown up early and often since training camp began, fortifying a position that had formerly represented an area of weakness for the Steelers over the past several seasons.

Berry has been very impressive. And we need him as our D gives up a lot of yards. Keep pinning the other team back and dropping them inside the 15.

Boswell has been money. This could be our best Punter and Kicker combo in years!

Yes! punters are people too!

I think the field position game was the key to the win - kept them backed up deep in their own end for most of the game

Good job!

Berry is sick...dude is booming em man. every time he's punting and I see the returner just backing..and backing..and backing...it's a thing of beauty.

amazing leg power...he killed the bengals yesterday.

Special teams are at last special. They contributed greatly to the victory.

I LOVE Berry. Always have. His consistency was troublesome last year, but man can he kill a ball! I think Andy Lee is the only punter in the league better than him right now, but I'm happy to see Berry getting more consistent this season. I loved how he put the long punt right on the sideline, giving very little room for a return, which we tackled pretty quickly. It's much tougher to aim the length of your punt out of bounds, than it is to punt for distance, and he's starting to hit those too. Had one in the Washington game land just out of bounds at the full distance. Super happy to have him punting at a high level. Go Boz and Berry, just a couple more killer Bs to add to the mix!!

This is written in a prose reminiscent of old school journalism. Well done!

Additionally, on his last punt, Berry knew that pinning the Bungles inside the 10 did not matter - just don't get the damn thing blocked. He took one step crushed the punt through the back of the end zone.

Get 80 yards on one play, Bungles. Good luck with that.

Definitely copied and pasted can't take credit

how long since the team had a reliable punter?

Berry was the best player on the field in terms of performing his job. That was the best punting performance I've seen in a long time. I do have to laugh, though, at how many couldn't wait to run this guy out of town after his rookie year. He was great in camp last year, but struggled under the lights. One year of seasoning and he has the look of one of the best in the NFL.

As I remember, Troy took a year of seasoning too.

Hell, Bradshaw took 5 seasons, Mel Blount looked like a bum his first 2 years, and James Harrison couldn't even make a roster.

I'm glad Berry is "BOOMING" !!!!!! Keep it up as that's a part of the game we have been missing. Congratulations to him.

Salute the nation

He is great, but a lot of the credit goes to Cincy's returner who had at least two fair-catches on the 5-yard line. Inexplicable.

Steelers punter Jordan Berry another defensive weapon
http://www.timesonline.com/sports/s...cle_f6fa1134-7f52-11e6-a55f-a743216db875.html

As the most rudimentary fan knows, there are three phases to football: Offense, defense and special teams. According to Ryan Shazier, the Steelers have it narrowed down to two.

“We count our special teams as part of the defense,” the inside linebacker says.

The Steelers had many defensive weapons in Sunday’s 24-16 win over Cincinnati: Ross Cockrell, Will Gay, Mike Mitchell and Shazier to name just a few.

But they also had Jordan Berry, the punter.

The Aussie was a busy man in Week 2, matching a career-high with eight punts, averaging 47.1 yards per kick and placing five of them inside the Cincinnati 20.

One of those was in the second quarter when Berry pinned the Bengals at their own 3. Thanks to the field position, the Steelers were able to get a 49-yard field goal from Chris Boswell without even getting a first down.

“I thought field position was a legitimate edge in the game for us,” coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. “Jordan Berry and that punt group did an awesome job, largely making Cincinnati work with a long field all day.”

When it mattered most, Berry was at his best. After Andy Dalton’s touchdown pass to RB Giovani Bernard made it a one-score game with 3:34 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Steelers offense went three-and-out at their own 29. Fortunately for the Steelers, Berry then launched a 58-yard moon shot into the left corner, leaving Adam Jones – one of the NFL’s best return men -- with little room for a return as the Bengals took over at their own 25.

“We definitely thank Jordan a lot,” Shazier said. “He’s one of the best punters in the league. I think people are starting to recognize and notice him a lot more. Jordan’s done a great job. He’s always putting us in great position. The percentages of teams scoring inside the 10 and 20 is a lot (lower) than from the 30. When he’s helping us like that, it really makes our defense a lot better.”

Picking up where he left off in the preseason, where he easily retained his job after a brief, one-sided training camp battle, Berry has been outstanding in the early going this season.

Berry is currently ninth in gross yards at 48.4, seventh in net average at 42.8 yard and tied for seventh with four fair catches. Moreover, Berry is tied for fourth in punts inside the 20. Half of Berry’s 10 punts have pinned opponents deep.

The Steelers thought so much of Berry’s strong right leg last year that it made incumbent Brad Wing expendable, trading the fellow Australian to the New York Giants for a conditional sixth-round pick.

As a rookie, Berry rewarded Pittsburgh by averaging 39.1 net yards and placed 47.5 percent of his punts inside the 20, matching or establishing franchise records. But Berry struggled with consistency, especially down the stretch after suffering a torn labrum while making a tackle in Week 15 vs. Denver.

Now healthy, the 6-foot-5, 195-pound Melbourne native seems poised for a breakout year. Tomlin, who has always claimed that the biggest jump he sees in players occurs between years one and two, says the same applies to punters.

“It’s just the natural progression,” Tomlin said. “He won the job a year ago and gave us some quality play. He’s been in our off-season program. He knows what’s expected. I think you’re just seeing a performance that’s associated with that.”

Berry Berry good. there have been quite a few posts on Berry lately. He's showing a better leg, and better hang time. A must have with a defense that gives up a lot of yards.
