Wide Receiver John Brown, formerly of the Buffalo Bills, was on SiriusXM NFL Radio discussing his recent release as a result of the current cap difficulties teams are experiencing league wide. Brown said he knew his release was coming due to the salary cap decrease and the time he missed due to injury during the 2020 season, but his outlook was extremely positive. He was asked about the prospects of a new team and what he was looking for and the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with the Indianapolis Colts, are at the top of his list. Brown described Ben Roethlisberger as “good with the deep ball” and he may be the weapon Roethlisberger needs to reignite that notion as he was near the bottom of the league in yards per attempt in 2020. Brown, also known as “Smoke”, is relatively known around the league as a top deep threat. He is usually one of the top receivers year in and year out in yards per reception with a career average of 14.8 yards per reception. His name may not be the biggest but Steelers fans should recognize the name instantly as he has had great success against the Steelers secondary. In the 4 games he played against the Steelers, he averaged 5.75 receptions and 106.5 yards per game. While the Steelers receiver room does not lack talent, Brown may be able to bring the much needed ability to stretch the field, along with a veteran presence to help the Steelers offense shake off the notion they are just a “dink and dunk” offense.

Still has good speed and can help ease the loss of JuJu. I’d be ok with it but don’t think Steelers will go there but instead replace JuJu in the draft. Two fourth round picks and one may be used on the next WR.

I don’t dislike Brown and think he would be solid but curious how Washington would do in the slot?

IMO- Washington would be a beast in the slot. He’s got descent size, freakishly strong and he ain’t afraid to go into traffic for the ball. He could be a matchup nightmare in the slot

Agreed. Plus, he’s proven that he has reliable hands and could be the security blanket for Ben. Another player I'm personally high on is Amari Rodgers from Clemson. Could be had in the 4th and would be a solid pick up.

Washington is our BEST combat catcher on the team and that should translate to pretty decent slot receiver. Does anyone know who was faster....Washington or JuJu ?

Both were timed at the combine with the exact same speed of 4.54. Weird...

That is kind of weird but I still think Washington out duals in the combat catching department. I'm not taking anything away from JuJu as he is big / strong / aggressive as hell after the catch. He will be missed just like any good player leaving would be but We can survive.

I think washington wasn't very quick and is one of those athletes that builds up speed with his stride so I don't think that translate so well to the slot position

That reminds me of what Bettis used to say ...
“I ain’t fast.. but I’m kinda quick..

i agree with combat catches, though JuJu kills it in the short area COD department. I think his 3 cone drill was 2-3 sec faster than Wash.

Definately not saying Washington can replace JuJu straight up but I am saying the drop off, team wise isn't as far as we think. I don't want to lose JuJu but it's inevitable and other players will step up. A lot can happen between now and the 17th

JB was hurt a lot last year. Hope he would come at a good price. When he was with BAL, he was pretty good. Showed flashes in BUF, but had the injury bug most of the season.

Yes he amari Rogers nico Collins shi smith I am high to replace juju spot Collins has the making of Bryant same frame and speed without the weed problem

I think it's interesting that Brown obviously still respects Ben's arm, despite all the talk in the media about Ben being nearly washed up.

Washington might actually be a better receiver than Juju.

Juju has slightly better hands and routes, but Washington is much more explosive.

Steelers will be loaded at WR with or without Juju.
