Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

Why is it that the Steelers always seem to have a “distraction” player every year?

Because “CAM” wanted Mo-Money…!!!

The Steelers have been giving more guaranteed money than they used to. I can see $28 million per year for 4 years, with $60 million guaranteed. I hope they don't go higher than $30 million per. I also would not be upset if they got him for 5 years at $30 million per.
Wasn't this the price no one wanted to give him at the start of the summer? Now it's a bargain because of the market.
How do you know he didn't want to see the market develop before signing a new deal? Would be foolish of him to do so
If the Steelers offered him a top 1-2 deal early in the offseason he would've signed on the spot.

I agree with this take.

Correct for me. I thought $25 million would have been a very fair offer. Now, it's closer to $30 million. No way I give him more than that. I'd rather trade him or let him play this year and then tag him next year. But you know he will try to force a trade where we get very little for him.

Why would they do that ?

Bruh, Omar is not earning his paycheck on this situation. I hate drama...
As long as it’s not a distraction for the other defensive players.

It seems like the core is built. I’m particularly excited to see the defensive line and ILB play this season.

Whenever Jr decides to come aboard and whatever Omar wages

Not overpaying players that over value themselves is doing an excellent job imho

If he gets assets in return for a player that wants to walk due to an over valuation of his services that makes Omar working overtime doing an excellent job

Now if that is what’s happening is pure speculation as none of us have seen the offer(s) but reports keep coming out that they are far apart…likely clickbait to entice an anxious fan base, but we’ll find out soon enough on end of negotiations eve.

His stats are wrong
Pat averaged 55 catches seasons 2021-24,

Career average 52 catches, 535 yds, 4 td.

Mediocre stats
Ummm.. muth was the second TE in NFL history to have 60 or more catches his first two seasons... his third season was injury filled.. he missed 5 games and didnt finish several others... so the drop in production is legit
His 4th year he had 65 catches on just 78 targets.. that was 8th among all TEs
last year they cut his role to give snaps to Jonnu Smith
He only got 54 targets... he caught 41 passes... 27 th most no among all TEs...

For reference, the league leader had 126 catches on 169 targets... with the same targets... assuming the catch % stayed the same, Frieirmuth woulda caught 128 passes..

While most top end TEs are getting 800-over 900 snaps, he was down around 500ish his production when on the field is top 10 TE numbers

I heard on radio the Steelers were going to elevate CB slaughter to the active roster. Hope it is not related to JPJ playing, but kinda has to
Of course it is. Joey is sitting. Back problems.😉. Im gonna say Samuels Jr is gonna be a problem for Joey. I waa super excited when they drafted him. Sometimes circumstances create issues. This is one of those times.

Look, ill point out once again that unlike Tomlin, tge McCarthy/ Graham defense will ask different things of the outside CBs, moreover McCarthy loves interceptions from DBs, not a strong point for JPjr

Porter is a really good CB, but not a guy who is an elite playmaker.

Its more and more plausible the Steelers never had intentions of extending him until they saw him in the new system.. and given his holdout they may simply decide to take the Broderick jones route and trade him rather than risk losing him next season or him just not being as good a fit in the new system as ASjr..

I like Porter. I hope it works out, but if they got a first for him.. even a lower first, that packaged with tgeir own first and a young QB could get them in the position to draft a franchise guy.. or just fill a second hole

Too bad his blocking was so azz he couldn’t get on the field more in the AS system. Square peg and round hole meets the Steelers again whether Tomlin, Arthur or Muth is that square peg…that’s a whole other can of worms.

Projecting stats that didn’t occur is always a failed form of argument as facts project to prove a point much better than speculating.

Sure we can all assume his catches would go up with more targets, I don’t think anyone is arguing that. The fact is he got a certain amount of reps, targets and catches and that IS what he produced.

Now, whether his greatest limiter was:
His azz blocking keeping his reps down
A stupid system that didn’t use the middle of field
Dreadful OCs and HCs schemes/evals
Other players earning those snaps
Poor QB play
Etc…

All things that can be debated forever
His pay certainly doesn’t match his production-FACT, for whatever reason.

Good thing we have some real football today and maybe Pat can start producing to his pay…that would be a welcome change. ****, maybe he learned to block this off season…that too would be a welcome change cuz we’re gonna need all hands on deck to carry this ole fella to the playoffs

Just on a quick internet search cuz the 60 catches in his first 2 seasons stat sounded so obscure (like a 5 catch, 50 yards a game streak)…even Pat really “Tomlin lined” his way into that club with 60 and 66 catch seasons to get there

BUT… I had to see a list of TE first 2 season production (for comparison purposes) and many TEs have bested Pat’s 126 combined catches. Heck even AI disrespected PAT by not even listing him on the TEs list with over 120 catches in their first 2 seasons.

Bowers, LaPorta, Keith Jackson, Jim Phillips, Gronk, Kittle, Graham, Whitten, Shockey, Joe Senser (whoever tf that is?), Chris Young…some solid company Pat is in there.

But sadly Pat left off only to be grouped with the “others have also broken the 120 threshold list” crowd of TEs. AI disrespect there.

NO PLAY, NO PAY

Regardless, he will lose 1-game pay check (rookie salary)

I also know from Steelers past the negotiations come to a hault.

He may be using the back injury for reasoning of not suiting up, but eventually the Steelers can deem him fit to play.

The mess becomes clearer in about 4 hrs. 11am MST.
