Joey Porter Jr.............................. not dad

Is any corner today worth so much of a chunk of payroll? With the rules enforcement it just seems like there aren't really any "shutdowns" anymore.

Or, because of the rules enforcement, are the really good ones, the ones who can play well within that, worth more?

I get that, but I just think Porter has developed into a really good CB and don't want to see them lose young talent while they're paying aging veterans on the defense on the downside of their careers. Outside of OL, they have some pieces on offense locked in long enough to maybe get some of the older defenders off the books.

Now I've seen a lot of scheme fit talk regarding Porter this week. If this coaching staff can't maximize Porter's talent within their scheme, that's bad coaching IMO.

Totally agree that they need to stop sinking so much money into aging vets and retain younger guys with more upside.

Maybe the defensive scheme relies more on the pressure up front than the secondary locking things down.

Some Ds are more reliant on pressure up front taking the pressure off the secondary to cover while other Ds rely on coverage because they don’t generate pressure up front (to me this is a poor defensive scheme)

Since signing 2 rotational pieces in the defensive front to fairly large deals I can only assume Graham’s D is focused on the front 6 or 7, so overpaying CBs is not a necessity to mask the warts of the pass rush.

Time will tell.

Do you actually think JpJ is worth 35 per and 100 guaranteed?

NO, I don’t think Joey is worth that amount.

A player of that $$$ caliber $$$ needs to be able to change the game, Joey just defends the game.

Int’s / return TDs / FF all change a game dramatically, give credit as a 3rd down pass defenses helps a lot as well.

$25 mil can do what Joey does.

I gotta feeling $1,254,635 can do what JPJ does

Isn't that what Herbig, not a starter, at the Steelers position of greatest strength, got?

The number of Steeler corners in the NFL's top 10 is zero for many, many years.

Pay the man, and tell him to chip a bit to his geezer dad!

He’s not a John Stallworth or Ike Taylor for goodness sakes. Tell him to suit up and play or trade him.

Joey is a ZERO-time Pro bowl and a zero time All Pro selection, he doesn't deserve to be paid like one. Period. But yesterday, the talking heads were reporting that JPJ want's to be the HIGHEST paid Corner in the NFL. Ridiculous!

Force him to play out his final year on the rookie deal, slap a Franchise tag on him for 2027 and let him and his gum flapp'n Daddy walk for 2028.

My take….. Joey has improved every year. I’d say he is in the 6-10 ranking in the League. He could very well be in the top 4 at the end of this season the way he’s been progressing.. If it’s not just an agent ploy and he truly believes he should get#1 contract in the league…..trade him if the price is right.
Unfortunately I believe the Steelers have overpaid TJ,Keeanu, and Nick, DK was paid top 5 money when signed,he wasn’t even close to a top 5 WR..so they’ve been setting this precedent. To be honest I thought Alex and Pat were signed too high at their time of signing.
We’ve been waiting since Troy to have a true young star back there. He will get signed. I think the real question will be is he one of those guys whose play will diminish after securing a 80-100 million guaranteed contract? Will he have that drive in him to be the #1 in the league? My gut instinct says a year after signing the slide starts. I hope I’m wrong.

The highest paid CB’s in the league.

Don’t know squat about any of them, except familiar with Denzel because he’s a Cleveland Clown.

But if they are equally or not as good as Joey, then maybe Joey is not as nuts as we are making him out to be.
If these guys are out of Joey’s league then Joey can go eff himself.

I hear yaz and appreciate yaz, but Joey needs a little more “seasoning” as in at least one probowl or something.

These guys want all the money and I don’t blame them one single bit.

Highest paid CB in the NFL is a little premature for his career.

I think Joey & Dad are at that 32-35 mil range where as the Steelers are at the 26 -28 mil range.

It will be interesting to watch this play out and once the numbers are released we can make better *****-iN post(s).

I would rather pay Porter around $30 mill than Ramsey $24 mill.

They aren't signing him because they know he's not worth the money and his stock is likely going down this season.
Joey asking for league high contract plays right into the Steelers hand as they know every team in the league is laughing at those demands.

I don't know what every team is laughing at more.... Steelers not paying Porter's demand as a 3 year starter or the Steelers paying Herbig $25 mill as a situational player. 🤔

I don't think anyone is laughing. Herbig may not be a situational player for long. If he doesn't end up starting this year, he will be next year. I think Highsmith is a really good player, but I just don't think he'll be on the Steelers past the 2026 season. Maybe sooner. The Steelers were being proactive in this case.
