Joe Haden signs with Steelers

I have to say, with all things being equal, I'm a little more confident facing the Patsies in the PO. I'm not expecting Haden to be the savior of the D, but they are more solid. When this team starts clicking, we should be pleasantly pleased with what Colbert and Co has assembled.

I think it was a good move. My only point is why did it take till 10 days before the season to assess that you were difficient at corner. Im pretty sure that anyone here could have said they needed a veteran corner the day after last season. I realize Haden's situation is a little unique. People are making it sound like he's playing cjeap. Its 9 million a season. I wonder what 9 million would have gotten on the early market?

Including the draft they brought in 4 CBs

And you are ongoing assessing who you brought in compared to who you have.

Not like they sat on their hands here. Plus once you eval it is who is available..

Probably chicken scratch from what I can see.

So you have a unexpected talent suddenly come available.

I have no problem with how this off-season has been run.

And applaud them recognizing that two areas of weaknesses weren't panning out. So what did they do but address those positions.

They have talent wise, gave this club a fighting chance to achieve something special.

I am happy how it has unfolded.

Now we just hope for less injuries, but the pieces are in place.

Now all that we have to do is give him a few terrible towels to wipe the Brown ****-Stain from him. I can't even begin to imagine how elated Haden is to actually go from playing on the worse team in the NFL to the best. That boy is going to be motivated to play out of his mind. I bet that he is having visions of picking off Brady to seal the game in the playoffs. This season just got a whole lot more interesting.

3 years 27 million. Turned down bigger offers. Wanted to be in Pittburgh

This is a good deal as the Steelers need to WIN NOW before Ben retires. Haden is a little slow, but productive corner. He struggled with injures in 2016, but from 2012-2014 he was one of the better corners in the NFL stuck on Cleveland. With our pass rush, if he's healthy we've got something!

A bit of a gamble, but we all know its tough to win with our secondary vs the better passing teams unless the offense puts up a lot of points.

You guys just realized we got a better CB than what was available in Free Agency this year, and we payed less than market value for him? It may have been lucky, but damn, this is unreal!

With Rosenhaus being Hayden and Gilbert's agent. It looks like Gilbert's wish for a new contract just vanished. I'm sure he won't have as much of a problem with it, since he's gaining a college buddy. And his contract will be correctly reassessed next year, with a year remaining on it.

I think they made every effort to get a starting corner. Look at the draft picks allocated to the position. Look at the bodies they've brought in to compete. Yes we have some castoffs but sometimes those guys over perform their past and do well. The FO had to know that there would be starting quality players cut prior to the season for cost cutting measures, they likely just did not know who those players would be. Stuff like this happens every year, just not to the Steelers. They know there is a window with Ben and we must maximize that time or we will be wasting our franchise QBs last season(s).

I hope he's healthy. If he is, he's an absolute immediate upgrade and it gives us TWO starting first round DBs. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. WE RIDE!

Reading a lot of positive and negative comments on this signing. Let's keep this in perspective.

Our CB situation was problematic, at best. Not many options available 10 days prior to the season. Not many options were great in this year's CB free agent class. Not a good situation to be looking for an answer at a priority position.

Signing a 2-time Pro Bowler at less than market value who is only 28 years old. No matter how pessimistic I can be (and I can) that is a win-win-win for Pittsburgh in every aspect. Our CB position just improved significantly and the cost was relatively small. Haden at 28 is better than Cockrell-Sensabaugh-Gay at any ages and that really is all that matters.

Good job, Colbert.

Wonder what number he will wear. His number is obviously taken as well as all the 20's. Maybe he'll invert it and wear 32 ?

It's been real and it's been fun, but it hasn't been Cockrell fun. Buh Bye Ross.

Also of note, as of this morning Haden has NOT tried to buy #23 from Mike Mitchell. Have my own sources on this one.

Best guess possibility's are 27 or 29 but anything can happen if we get crazy and trade some promising youngin' next week.

Maybe he can buy 23 off Mike M. He was #5 at FLA, so I don't know how that could work.

Ha, beat me to it, Hines!

Don't think Haden is going to get 23 off Mitch. Will cost a lot of money.

Man stop...enjoy the signing and know that there are smarter people than you running the Steelers' organization...

I beat you to that query last night...guess we'll find out in a coupla hours...

Raven fans seem displeased

Everything I am reading and hearing around on their airwaves is the opposite. They are not scared at all. Over paid, he is old and no better than Webb at this point and slow and old. They have the fastest WR in the league and he will be torched as he has only intercepted Flacco 3 times.

I just did a little research - help me if I'm wrong...

Here's what I'd do number-wise for Mr. Haden. Since no one on the roster wears #2 or #6 - I'd give the option for Josh Dobbs to change to one of those numbers and then give Joe #5...problem solved.

Make it happen, cap'n...

Haven't chimed in yet, but I am very happy with the signing.

Very good risk/reward. No reason to push cap room into the future when Roethlisberger keeps talking about retirement every off-season. Use up the cap room and make the team as good as you can.

Huge upgrade in my opinion vs. Gay/Sensabaugh/Cockrell and pushes everyone but Burns down the depth chart and makes our depth in the secondary much, much better in case of injury.

These moves with McDonald and Haden are short-term. Maybe over spending a little (not much in my opinion) but there is no dead money or long term commitments. I mean if Ben retires after this year (like if we win a Super Bowl), you can let them all go and move into a rebuilding phase and use their money to sign a QB (like Cousins for instance).

These moves really, really help our depth and resistance to injury effects come November/December.

well, Browns fans, who were bummed he was cut, he is a great team guy, pillar in society is now suddenly old and washed up. The Steelers got an old dud that Kizer can now torch. Funny how things change in a matter of hours.
