Joe Haden signs with Steelers

Tombert Tombert Tombert!

Steelers offseason is officially a

A

Slash you know there are going to be detractors regarding the FO. You can set your watch on it.....

Well someone has to go, doubt they keep seven corners. The rookie Allen can stick on PS, which leaves:

Burns, Artie
Haden, Joe
Hilton, Mike
Sutton, Cameron
Sensabaugh, Coty
Gay, William
Cockrell, Ross

If indeed Hilton beats out Gay as slot corner, that's huge. It also pushes Gay down the depth chart, as I view Sutton as a lock to make the 53. That leaves Sensabaugh, who they seem to be high on, and Gay and Cockrell. Due to his age, they may choose to move on from Gay, maybe with a wink and a promise to bring him back during the season if something opens up, if Gay doesn't sign elsewhere.

Here is another option: keep the 7 but move gay to backup FS, axe golden who has sucked since last season.
Gay is decent in zone coverage and could be usefull with the play in front of him, he has a knack for interceptions .

yeah I definitely would keep Gay over Golden..because Golden is the weak link.

The Browns are still the Browns haha

If Haden can play up to his old level as a shutdown CB then this could make the steelers one of the top defenses. But even if Haden is a step below that, he still improves the defense because he's a veteran who will be in the right place. Steelers now have 2 outside CBs who can play man.

If Sutton develops as a slot CB, this secondary can be dangerous.

Or maybe they can move Sens there or give Hilton a shot there. Lot of possibilities now.

And how this added a extra level of excitement for that game 1 match-up................

Pro Football rankings had **** Man as the 27th rated CAB in the NFL....just goes to show you how moronic the rankings are by the experts. So when they have Haden as 88th out of 120 I find that to mean nothing plus he played last year with a groin injury. Seriously playing the CB position with a partially torn groin is absurdly tough. Look what happened to Bell when he tore his.....out of the playoffs in a heartbeat

Two things to note in a recent article on cleveland.com

1) he was playing CAB with two groin issues where he couldn't play full speed or open up (to think he played at all with those issues at that position is saying something)

2) and this is the hysterical part....that the Browns FO uses ProFootball analytics to make roster decisions. Lol This is the same analytics that has Cockrell as the 27th ranked CB in the NFL. No wonder why they suck

What made is so tough is that Haden, who had both groin muscles surgically repaired in the offseason, often took a beating on social media for being hurt and not playing up to his Pro Bowl standards.

"I love the game so much that it's tough from the outside looking in to see [people say], 'Man, Joe, he's hurt. He can never stay healthy,''' he said. "I'm not trying to be hurt. I'm not trying to not be out there helping my guys.

"It was tough for me, but just understanding you can control what you can control. I worked my tail off after my surgery [to be healthy for training camp]. So I'm just ready to go and just excited to play ball."

The criticism was more difficult to take than a brain-rattling concussion that wiped out most of his 2015 season, which followed two Pro Bowl years.

"Last year was a little harder because I was actually on the field and couldn't do what I wanted to do, couldn't open up, couldn't run full speed and when you're covering those dudes, nobody really knows that,'' said Haden. "They're like, 'Joe's playing. He's ready to go.' That just was a tough situation.''

Haden was still named a Pro Bowl alternate, but by the end of the season, he had to tumbled to No. 88 on profootballfocus.com 's list of the best NFL cornerbacks. To put that in perspective, then second-year corner Briean Boddy-Calhoun was 66th, new Browns corner Jason McCourty was 57th last year with the Titans, and Browns starter Jamar Taylor was 20th.

By the time the draft rolled around in April, profootballfocus.com's analytics team wrote a headline that read " Haden's decline might lead Browns to lean cornerback in the draft .'' It was significant, because the Browns use profootballfocus.com's analytics as part of their evaluation process.
