Jay Gruden out in Washington

It seems only Steelers fans are oblivious to how highly regarded Tomlin is around the league.

The casual viewers just see the sum of the organizational parts that have mostly kept the regular season shine on Tomlin. Anyone watching closely can see this guy is at a loss with the finer points.

not a whole lot...there is a CB who could be developing and a OLB who might turn out okay......but nothing close to Oliver from last season

That’s too bad and Oliver is turning out to be a hell of a pick for the Bills. Of course Coach didn’t like the pick so I guess he’s doomed.

My goodness, trading Tomlin is the perfect scenario for this team. They can add some premium draft picks and they could maintain their status of not firing a head coach. Then we can go out and get Lincoln Riley to rebuild this offense.

If we get a first-round pick for Shades then it's like getting Fitz for free.

That would be addition by subtraction, and things of that nature.
Obviously that is an above the neck way of thinking. With his high pedigree, I won't paint it with a broad brush it would be welcomed obviously.

Popcorn, watching the parts move around would be pop corn-ish. Of course you'd have to be tight above the neck to understand my useage of the word but many here have the pedigree to figure it out, obviously.

I admit. I don't have it above the neck enough to understand your utilization of the procolmation regarding the cornsih nation. The moment is just to big for me, you see. Or mabye you don't see this feature because its not your nature.

I cannot understand how with Rex being a close confident of Tomlin, that he isn't the DC of this team. I could see that being Tomlin's scapegoat/ Hail Mary Pass this off season.

Tomlin's ego won't allow it.

Just to go down the rabbit hole with this for a minute, how does that even work, that a coach gets traded from one team to another? For instance, could the Steelers trade Tomlin without his consent? The team owns his rights, much like a player? So they'd basically be trading a coach and his existing contract to another team? All these years I've never even thought about this scenario...maybe someone has some insight into the legal side of it.

Coach contracts are different. They are usually guaranteed. The language is usually that the contract is guaranteed so long as they don't take another coaching job. As soon as they take another job, it voids their contract and the old team is off the hook.

That's why so many coaches go on TV after getting fired. Some don't necessarily want a new job immediately unless it's a job they really want. They do TV for a year or so, get paid from their old team and also get a check from TV. Plus it must seem like a vacation.

Because a coach's money is guaranteed, I can't see trading one against his will. He could simply say No and his old team would either have to fire him and pay him or work out a buy out.

Tomlin is from VA so he may very well be interested. Especially if he sees the Big Ben era closing soon and he wants to cash in for a huge payday while he's still a top name.

Here's an interesting article on 5 coaches who were traded.

https://www.oregonlive.com/nfl/2015/12/nfl_5_coaches_who_have_been_tr.html

as you see from the article, the deals are usually combo of money or and draft picks. Interesting the remember that the Pats got Belichick pretty much the same way they got AB, with a shady deal. The league stepped in and made the Pats compensate the Jets for the obvious tampering.

I just heard that the *Pats offered their first round pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for them retaining Tomlin as their coach. Something about it being 'like getting two bye weeks' every time the Steelers make the playoffs...

If Redskins offered Tomlin more salary I think he takes a serious look. It would be a way for Rooney to " save face " , because he wouldn't fire Tomlin. He leaves on his own. Rooney could get an entirely new staff.

Tomlin didn’t exactly say he wouldn’t take that HC position. He didn’t sound to be against coaching there. Interesting.

Steelers’ Mike Tomlin ‘not worried about’ Redskins coaching job

“Guys, I’m the head coach of a 1-4 football team that’s going on the road to play a Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback with my third quarterback. You think I’m worried about anything this week other than that?”

That's not a No, so there's still a chance.

How can a coach who always seems to say the right things be such a ****** game manager and decision maker on the sidelines...

Hoot, the gratitude of your arrival with the pedigree that you express makes your above the neck popcorn flourish. You need a red barn to paint and if that paint is yellow, you can express your vision within those boundaries. From the ladder that I stand, I can see you never selling yourself short.
