Jay Gruden out in Washington

No matter what the fans want, why would HCMT want to leave his cushy job here with the Ronney's to take a job with Washington and Dan Snyder to re-build and start over? Signed a new two-year extension, is secure here. . . not even a logical possibility, sorry. That was fun for 5 minutes.

Just to go down the rabbit hole with this for a minute, how does that even work, that a coach gets traded from one team to another? For instance, could the Steelers trade Tomlin without his consent? The team owns his rights, much like a player? So they'd basically be trading a coach and his existing contract to another team? All these years I've never even thought about this scenario...maybe someone has some insight into the legal side of it.

You know, there was a time that I thought the idea of AB leaving the Steelers was ridiculous. Then, the idea of the Steelers getting less than a 1st round pick for AB was out of the question. Then, it seemed crazy that the FO would trade up to 10 for Devin Bush. I then thought no way would they go after Fitzpatrick when he was on the trade block. But here we are. Keep in mind, outside of the Pittsburgh fan base, Tomlin is still a highly regarded HC. Recoup some draft capital and then hire Mike McCarthy. That's why he's waiting around, of course :) D.C. would put MT closer to his hometown and isn't his kid at UMD? Let the rumors fly. They're going to anyway...

if we are able to get rid mt my short list
Rex
Mccartthy
Muncheck

It seems only Steelers fans are oblivious to how highly regarded Tomlin is around the league.

That's cause they simply look at numbers. They aren't watching this **** week in week out. They don't consider the resources this tit has had at this disposal. Ask yourself when Cowher coached this team. When were guys like Haden picked up. Trades made for guys like Fitzpatrick. Hell they didn't even retain many of their own important free agents back then.

Sexy Rexy wasn't all that as a HC but I'd hire him as DC in a heartbeat.
McCarthy as HC.

I cannot understand how with Rex being a close confident of Tomlin, that he isn't the DC of this team. I could see that being Tomlin's scapegoat/ Hail Mary Pass this off season.

I don't know. but wasn't Chucky traded from the Raiders to the Bucs. two firsts a second and 8 million cash.

Can we trade them Tomlin for a 1st rd pick?

With a stupid owner perhaps! Check this headline out.

yeah you are at least the third poster to bring this up

Everyone knows he is highly regarded. Most just don’t know why.

I mean this league had Art Shell as head coach twice, and he makes Tomlin look like a rocket scientist....
Coaching in the NFL is abysmal.... Tomlin isn’t great at anything... he is probably above average enough in some areas that he is a better option for a clueless team than gambling on an unknown or a failed retread

I can't really imagine anyone wanting the Washington job unless an ownership change is part of the package.

yes, for 2 1s and 2 2s if I remember correctly

I do remember that trade too. Man to wrestle away
1st and 2nd round picks in 2020 and their 1st in 2021 would immediately fix some glaring holes in this football team. For Tomlin, let the Skins find out what most here already know.
Who do you have projected from the Cougs this year Coolie? I haven’t been following them, only my Aggies.

OBBBBBBEOUSLY, Colbert has this setup to trade Tomlin away and replenish that first round draft pick.

Was thinking that Pittsburgh would more than love to hire McCarthy. He interviewed for the Jets job and the owners didn't hire him stating "He's probably the worst coach of all time, he wasted 14 years of Aaron Rodgers career, we don't want the same to happen to our young quarterback." ROTFL...

This board sounds just like that about Tomlin and Ben. How'd that perspective turn out for the Jets???

MCCARTHY playoff record 10-8 with GB... one SB appearance.

not a whole lot...there is a CB who could be developing and a OLB who might turn out okay......but nothing close to Oliver from last season

Most around the league think Butler is running the D. They are clueless.

Had a co-worker tell me the reason AB asked to get out is because PIT refused to pay him. He insisted on this point even after I noted that the team made him the highest paid WR in the NFL a season before. As it turns out, so I am told, the Steelers refused to pay AB his incentives so AB did what he did to get out of his contract. LOL

I'm not picking on my co-worker. Good guy, but even good guys believe what they see on the Internet. You can't lie on the Internet.

My goodness, trading Tomlin is the perfect scenario for this team. They can add some premium draft picks and they could maintain their status of not firing a head coach. Then we can go out and get Lincoln Riley to rebuild this offense.
