Javon Hargrave's tricky contract

Maybe CMVLT has narrowed his responsibilities to just DC, for now.

Salute the nation

Butler has had less and less control of this defense since he started. Tomlin has even taken over much of the play calling. Now with Butler taking over the LBs Tomlin will have more control of the defense. This isn't Butler's defense... it's Tomlin's.

Exactly, some don't want to believe this for some reason.
Imagine a dline of Cam, Hargrave, Tuitt, all three are run stuffers and very good rushing the QB, then you rotate Buggs, AluAlu, and another linemen through there, possibly have 7. There is no need and was no need to use 4 LB's, they were all slow, especially in the middle, but we loved throwing Williams, Bostic, Dupree out there, and only use 2 DL. Watt is a must in all situation. With Bush at ILB, there should be very few times we used 4 LB's. Give me 3 Dlinemen over 4 LB's any day.

I don't see it - but, I won't doubt it...either way - the defense IS improving...

My only rebuttal here is - that front will not work well on QB's who can spread the defense out. Face it - teams like Bama and the Steelers have had to 'change their defense to keep up w/ the evolution of the passing game. It's not gone - but the power running game is fading (and fading fast); so, our 3-4 front is going to have to change too. F83 has always been a supporter of the different nickel and dime packages - I tend to agree. The year we deployed the Nickel 3-3-5 defense was one of our finest years (Super Bowl Champs).

We have some interesting players and I have faith that "better days are a comin'"

Coryea is talking about using 3 DL in their passing packages as opposed to 2 DL. With 2 DL, they get gashed on the ground and the front of Tuitt, Hargrave, and Heyward would do a better job generating pressure than what we've seen with their other options.

They gave up more points last year than they did the year before. They went from giving up 19.3 PPG to giving up 22.5 PPG. It is NOT improving. Especially if you consider how they play when they get a lead. They were horrible last year in protecting a lead. How many 4th qtr. collapses did they have last year?

I get it. Hence my suggestion of the nickel 3-3-5 :th_balls:

Two-edged sword...

Yes, the defense gave up more PPG than the previous year; but they were also ON THE FIELD more than the previous year too. I still believe 4 games were 'altered' by NYC and the refs last year, but, that's a discussion for another day:livid:

The Steelers have some tough decisions to make, and some cap room to make. I wonder if they will try to pile a bunch of money into the cap free year that most see coming with the CBA set to expire.

I like Tuitt but he's been vastly overpaid since he signed that contract. Wish we wouldn't of given him so much.

I'm not overpaying for Hargrave. He hasn't proven he is worth a big second contract. The middle of the defense is still the weakest spot on our line.

Maybe they were on the field more because they couldn't make a stop? The refs go both ways. They could have lost the first clowns game if the refs call a PI call on the Steelers in the endzone. It was clearly PI. So it cuts both ways.

I can't disagree w/ that...
