Haven't seen anyone bring this up from Tomlin's presser yesterday but he and the coaches believe Jarvis is good enough to stay on the field on all downs (over 70% of the snaps this past week) and play on the left or right side. I guess everyone on here must be seeing something other than what Tomlin and the coaches see and that includes myself. Jarvis sucks! He is hurt again (big contraption on his arm) that makes him suck even worse.

So, are we all crazy or is Jarvis really that good? If we are that crazy, it sounds like the Steelers might even be dumb enough to offer Jarvis a big second contract when most of us were calling for him to be benched during the game. I had said give him until game 4 and then look to utilize someone else to start.

You guys ever stop to think y'all may not know what y'all are talking about. Defense is a team game. Every one has a job to do on a play call. Jarvis is doing his. Sacks are just one part of his job. And guess what no one has sacks yet. Does Tuitt suck does Heyward Harrison Moats and the rest? And just because he is wearing a brace doesn't mean he is hurt. The problem is Jarvis Jones = Clark Haggans but he was drafted in the first round so we all expected and wanted Von Miller.

Kinda like when people refer to Troy Edwards as the Steelers biggest draft bust of all time.

Fire Tomlin now!

Unfortunately with Jarvis he's just filling a position until we can actually find a playmaker at OLB who gets to the QB. Jarvis doesn't get it done. He's not a terrible football player, but he's just not the disruptive force we need in our defense. I fully expect the team to let him walk and to go OLB high in the draft again. We may have some $$ in UFA next season but if we sign Brown and Bell to new deals that's going to gobble up a lot of that cap space.

The question becomes if Dupree develops into that guy being the more athletic of the two. Do you keep Jones who will not cost alot. And I say this because you have to remember we are not running the same 3-4 as before. Butler has tweeked it. The DEs now are not just holding people up they are allowed to attack. So in this sense Tuitt and Heyward should be getting more sacks also. When Dupree comes back hopefully he can develop into that athletic pass rusher we are looking for Jarvis to be. And Jarvis can be who he is a solid guy in the Clark Haggans mold. I will take that first round status be damned

I'll agree with drafting another OLB high. I also think Tomlin and Butler should give some of Jones snaps, especially on 3rd down as a pass rusher to Moats or Chickillo.

What have they to lose at this point?

Hey, as long as James gets his 2.5 sacks this year while the Steelers keep playing a high level of defense - I'm good.

I got 2 goals. I'm easy to please. First the team, then James. In that order.

So the fact that chickollo has done nothing with the snaps he has gotten has no bearing??

Chickilo tries hard, there's no denying that, but I can't be the only one who's tired of seeing him take himself out of the picture with the right tackle every time he rushes the passer. Has he even been close to pressuring the qb yet? There's been a couple of instances in these first two games where him doing that has opened up a massive hole for a draw and the running back got some big gains.

How dare you insult Kevin Green reincarnated!!!

He's looking better, I think

It's a start

Jarvis sucks. He disrupts nothing. He goes through the motions. That is all. Lets try the next guy.

They're not giving any of Jones downs away. They are rewarding him with more. He is not even an average LB at this point in his career. Sure, pressure is one aspect of being a LB. He sucks at that. He also is barely average at tackling in the run game. They said he had 6 tackles this past week. Not sure where they came from unless they counted a couple sans Ray the Knife for piling on. I can't think of one tackle he had by himself at or behind the line of scrimmage in the first 2 games. If he had one, I certainly missed it. But, I did see him struggle to make tackles with that damn contraption on his injured arm.

I'd keep Jarvis for a Moats kind of contract

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

Jarvis Jones: 57 snaps, 75 percent

James Harrison: 38 snaps, 50 percent

Arthur Moats: 37 snaps, 49 percent

Anthony Chickillo: 19 snaps, 25 percent

Jones saw a similar amount of snaps as opposed to Week 1, and he deserved them. Jones has played well over the first two games in a contract year with a lot on the line. He only ended with two tackles against the Bengals, but set the edge in run defense and was sound with his technique. Harrison's snaps increased by 7 percent, while Moats' decreased an equal amount. Although Moats did have the Steelers' lone sack of both the game and season. Bud Dupree's absence in the rotation is showing in the Steelers pass rush. Out of this group, it appears on film that Moats has been the most productive in at least quarterback hurries. It will be interesting to see if Chickillo, who excels in the pass rush, will see his time increase in an effort to get after Carson Wentz.

Jarvis is equally vanilla on either side... not really bad, not great... like a solid "meh" of a player

He's going to get franchise tagged and given an $8-$9 million/year extension if this keeps up.....

JJ is doing well within the system, he'll yeah try him on the left too. It gets Silverback on the field. Sliding him to the left costs Moats a couple of snaps to get a new combo on the field to test its effectiveness...no problem with that. Merely doing our due diligence in a contract year to give ourselves a better idea of if/how to approach a contract negotiation with him after the season.

And yeah Moats had our only sack of the season, bwahaha...a coverage sack that he fell into that was more of a 3" loss on a QB run

Jarvis is likely as good as he will get. He has been here a while and knows the assignments and seems to be able to carry them out well except for the part about beating his man. One thing I have noticed is the pocket Generally gets smaller as the play develops from all sides and I suspect that is what they are going for. The qb is contained and the steelers are tying up 6 or seven guys with 4. That is allowing the secondary to play well while killing the passing game for the most part. The run game has been stopped for the most part as well. Jarvis well likely be offered a cap friendly deal that reflects his status as a decent back up when star players are available.

Dupree is making strides to become a complete player and learning rather quickly, the injury slowed him but I suspect he will turn into a very good player maybe even great. Chick is also developing and one needs to remember he was a project coming in. He seems to be more athletic than Jarvis and might surpass him once he learns the new position. I have never been a fan of Jarvis based on the ability he has shown so far.

I suspect the real reason there are so few sacks this year is the defense is designed to contain and limit the gain. The coaches are not going to come out and say this but I suspect as the secondary gets more guys back and gets the new guys better at the defense we will see a bit more in the way of pass rush than we have to this point. The bengals were sacked I believe seven times by the team they played before the steelers and won that game. The steelers only got one but won the game, clearly they have a plan that is working.

Harrison is still our best OLB and that's an issue, but I'm fine with Jones getting the snaps. Do you think we are going to get much more production with Moats or Chickillo?

Actually I'm more disappointed that Tuitt didn't have any sacks yet. Butler is allowing those guys to rush also ala Watt in Houston. They have to cash in also..

We haven't gotten.any sacks but we have gotten hits and pressures and forced errant throws..The sacks will come
