My only worry about Feeney: is he mean? I know it's a silly question, but...
Y'all remember Scott Shields. Big, strong, fast, smart. Looked like Tarzan, played like Jane. A safety that didn't want to hit anyone.
Look at this guy. He looks like someone you might cross the street to avoid...
Now look at Travis. The kid's got "Son In Law" written all over him.
Does he have the killer instinct? I just don't know...
He's too slight for the traditional OLB we usually put out there.
I'm a big UGA guy. So I wouldn't go as far to say I hate Jarvis. But football is not his life's work. As a Steelers fan I was more than happy to see my pro team give a UGA guy a look, but his spinal stenosis is factoring into the strength aspect of his football career. The guy can get in the backfield, but his head on strength is not----not there

God what a horrible pick....I can't remember which website I initially read but it did one of those "trax" measurable based on his combine numbers and his score had him such an outlier compared to the other top flight LBs that he really should have been a 4th round pick.
I grabbed Von Millers #'s from 2011 and then show Jones combine numbers against the top rated LB's (at the time) in the 2013 draft (Mingo/Jordan/Ogletree). The difference in numbers is just staggering...how the heck was he ever drafted that high, and that's WITH his health issues.

So Harrison was the weaker of Woodley/Harrison? The LT is the premier tackle in the NFL, usually bigger, quicker, stronger.
They need to protect most QB's (right handers) blind side. Your quickest and strongest OLB should be matched up to them.

I would not have minded the Jarvis Jones pick if it was not our first round pick. I think with your first round pick you have to go production and physical ability. In the later rounds you can go either or and hope that someone who isn't physically talented but had great production can still compete with the higher level of competition or you can take a guy who is raw and mold him into a guy who can compete with his physical ability. Not one or the other in round one.
I guess this is why I am not a huge Artie Burns fan. He didn't blow the combine up and a guy who's supposed to be a track star should have.

The last three, for having such higher measurable, don't seem to be producing significantly more sacks, PD's, ints or fumbles (Other than Ogletree on ints and fumbles).? Ogletree must dropped back for passes more, as he has double digit PD's the first two years (hurt last year?) and a bunch of forced fumbles. The other two seem pretty comparable to JJ.

That's not how it works.
First, it's rare to have one guy both quicker AND bigger. They kind of contradict each other.
Second, you want your best PASS RUSHER to be on the blind side (both to attack the QB where he can't look) and because there isn't a TE there to chip him. Part of the reason left tackles are left tackles is they often have to block a guy one-on-one. A right tackle can be give "help" by the TE.
On running downs, most teams run to the strong side hoping to create mismatches in numbers on half the field. The #1 rule of run defense is have one more defensive player than they have blockers. If a team has only 5 lineman and 1 RB (everyone else is wide and out) - you need 6 defenders in the box. If a team has 5 lineman, 1 TE and 1 RB: you need 7 defenders in the box. If a team has 5 Lineman, 1 TE, 1 FB and 1 RB = you need 8 defenders in the box.
The running game is all about trying to divide and conquer this basic defensive premise. You do that buy pulling guards to one side of the field and hope to isolate weak side players (often ignoring the opposite DE/edge defender). Teams often run to the "strong side" of the alignment to create more traffic and more possible man-on-man blocking situations which allows the RB to get to the second level untouched.
Therefore your strongest RUN defending edge player often plays on the strong side (left side) of the defense. He has to often be able to take on a bigger, stronger RT and shed him to guard one gap. That's why you see stockier, stronger, bigger LOLB's (Woodley and Dupree) than ROLB (who are quicker, longer and better pass rushers around the edge).

So its wrong to hope? I just want the team to do well. Teams over pay in free agency, I can see a number of teams overpaying JJ. Plus his status as a 1st round pick will play into the comp equation as well.
Never wrong to hope. But, I'd also prepare for the worst case scenario. Which is that Jarvis doesn't sucker someone into paying him "boo coo" dolares and we don't get a nice compensatory pick. Well, now that I write that, there is an even worse scenario ... That Jarvis plays well enough this year to sucker the Steelers into paying him "boo coo" dolares and promptly reverts back to form.
21 is right. The left tackle is supposed to be the best OL on any team. Run block, pass block....That's why you want your best rusher/tackle/lb on that side to pressure the right handed QB's.

That is my worse fear also. He has one outstanding year and then we overpay him and are stuck with a Woodley-like contract.

If he put up big numbers (which I can't see) or if he played well and they went on a playoff run (more likely scenario) he could get paid. More likely he will at least get another opportunity because he was first round. If he was a 4th he'd be gone already and there would be no second chance.
Well I don't think he is going to magically improve on his speed and burst, but would love for him to prove me wrong.
Contract year this is the year we see if he can do well really anything notable.
They didn't draft him to have two sacks on the year. They drafted him for results.
Now we will see when the almighty dollar is flashing what Jones is or isn't capable of.
For my want of course I want him to emerge. WOuld help the team.
For my realistic stance, they didn't pick up his option for a reason.
They did a good job of talking him up at the same time telling him they expect more.
Now it's to see if the postman can deliver or continues to be late with the mail.

I can't see him having an outstanding career. There were times where he got into the backfield to make huge tackles for a loss. This board calls him iOle! for a reason lol

All due respect, that's a 200-word opinion piece from a Steelers site. There's nothing backing up his claims that Jarvis applied pressure or succeeded in Butler's system. I know that sacks don't tell the whole story of a pass rush, but 2 in 15 games? 5 sacks in 36 career games? That's a pretty clear inability to finish off the QB. Good lord, Will Allen's a safety and racked up twice the sacks in fewer games
