James Pierre heading to Vikings

Exacty WTF.

Don’t forget the highest paid nickel back in league history/failed safety that is Ramsey in addition to Watts outrageous money

We’d better not see Kahn sitting on one penny of cap space beyond a small rainy day fund this year like we have the last two years where there has been loads of unused cap money.

My god offer Pierre 5 million and he would have stayed I’m sure.

I’m getting pretty sick of Kahn, he’s better come up big with all that cap space this year, bigger than the flop that Ramsey and Janu Smith were
They shouldn't have let Pierre walk. Guy was playing out of his mind. Positional depth would have been a nice luxury, especially at that price.

Yeah, I agree having Pierre as a 3rd outside CB would be great ... except the better and cheaper way to go is to use one of the dozen draft picks to obtain the same guy. This draft is admittedly not great at the CB position but a guy like Chris Johnson or Keionte Scott would be a good ST player and developmental CB. Johnson could be a contributor early on as a slot CB since he is physical and will not give the slot receivers an easy release to the middle of the field.

I think we can agree that 12 picks is too many for this roster. The conclusion is that the Steelers are going to deal a number of picks to move up and get a better selection. Even then, the team has, what, 9 picks? What the heck else are these picks worth if not for drafting good players who can be rostered for a reasonable price?

I'm a believer in quality over quantity so I wouldn't mind seeing the Steelers reduce down to 6 or 7 picks, especially with the moves made so far in free agency. Move two third rounders for another second, then the compensatory 4th + the lower picks to get a third back and move up in the fourth. That gives them a first, two seconds and two thirds to continue to build the receivers, secondary and lines, and their own (hopefully upgraded) fourth to take a flier on best QB available on day 3.

Then in 2027 they should have a good situation for their quarterback of the future, assuming Howard and/or draft pick haven't proven to be the answer. From there do a Kansas 2017. Identify their quarterback and use 2027 and 2028 first round picks plus other picks to trade up to get them. The main downside I see to this approach is that looking at 2027 I can see at least five and possibly as many as nine teams apart from the Steelers also looking for quarterbacks, so if Steelers are drafting in the 20's in 2027 it may be difficult to trade up to where they need to. It also relies on the quarterback class being as high quality and deep as currently projected.

Yeap, they bet on Samuel who's younger and cheaper.
Now we have
CB1 JPJ
CB2 Jamel dean
CB3 Rookie/Samuels
NCB Echols
S/NCB J Ramsey

Seems like a full deck already, CB4 will be drafted, hopefully in round 3/4 but I think R1&2 are now out of the equation for the position
I think you have CB1 and CB2 backwards there, my friend.

Anyway, as it turns out, letting Pierre and Gainwell walk makes a lot more sense given Dean and Dowdle are coming on board. Didn't know too much about Dean, but his numbers are phenomenal. And I do like Dowdle -- he had a couple of monster games which I caught part of last season. Hits the hole hard. Not the type of safety valve that Gainwell was in the passing game, but again, maybe this will help dissuade Rodgers from returning...which is my biggest offseason worry at this point.

Dean is really, really, really good.

Joey Jr. is elite. I really wish he qualified as a 1st round pick with that fifth year option.
Yep. With that new McDuffie contract the standard has been reset. 4 years-124 million with 100 million guaranteed.

If Joey Jr has a good season he will be right up there with him. Lots of $$$$$$$$

I've been tough on Porter, but his play absolutely improved in the latter part of last season. And I really like Samuel as a third CB. With Dean, that is a rock solid trio.
