James Harrison

yeah, not very reassuring, to say the least. sounds disgruntled. then again, we saw what happened the last time he left "to play somewhere else"

Yeah, I don’t see how he doesn’t get a hat with Shazier out. Moats goes to inside and that at least leave Debo to rotate with Bud, Watt and Chick.

Because our OLB"s are covering RB's and TE's as much as they are rushing the passer at this point.

I don't know that I've been this tired of hearing about a single topic here in the past 5 years. I love Harrison and what he's done for this team over the years, but it's getting like Groundhog day.

He has been professional about it. Anyone who thought he wasnt pissed was kidding themself. Personally, I feel you could have gone thin at another position to have him situational pass rush.

No reason to not get that man involved now. He can make an impact in the game. Use him in whatever capacity. There's zero wear on those tires this year. Which will be great come playoff time.

Veteran linebacker James Harrison has barely played for the Steelers this season, getting on the field for just 29 snaps. He’s not happy about that.

Harrison told Michele Tafoya of NBC that if he had known he wasn’t going to play much this season, he would not have signed with the Steelers.

The 39-year-old Harrison signed a two-year contract with the Steelers in March, but he now says he would have signed with another team if he had realized how little he was going to get on the field in Pittsburgh this season.

“Oh, yeah,” Harrison told Tafoya. “Who wants to not play?”

Comments are always the best

Dude was washed up when Pitt let him walk to Cincy.

Tomlin was scared to death he might sign with the Patriots or Ravens.

Better headline: Pittsburgh Steelers wouldn’t have re-signed Harrison if they knew he’d be a bench warmer.

Keeping his old legs fresh for New England. Tomlin knows those are the only games that matter

Harrison should be playing as a situational rusher at least. He was good last time he got a chance to play. He is still probably the best pure pass rusher on the team. Surely they can find a way to let him rush w/o making him be in coverage constantly.

Now's the time to start him over Dupree. We're in the stretch run, and these next two games are critical. Dupree is just "a guy", we need Deebo applying pressure out there.

They are just resting him and getting him pissed off for the playoffs. He'll be rested and have another chip on his shoulder heading into the playoffs. I guess we can only hope.

That's my best guess. Pezzy is makin' sure we have bullets left over when the game is for real. Harrison being hurt early would be of no use to the team at all. These next few games should tell the tale whether we will need him or not.

Dupree estimated for me that he’s been required to drop back into pass coverage “probably about 75 percent of the time,” and I had that figure independently corroborated by our Christopher Carter, whose season-long film study found the same rate.

“It’s a different role for me, something I hadn’t done in college,” Dupree said. “But I’m OK with it. I need to help the team win. It’s just so great, actually, to be part of all this winning. And I know the coaches see my effort. The coaches see what I’m doing, and they appreciate it. I’m just going to continue to work to get better.”

Dupree’s primary assignment in pass coverage has been the tight end. And to that end, the results are … if not crystal clear because of all the other people involved in coverage, at least compelling: Opposing tight ends have been targeted 79 times for 44 catches, 482 yards — an average of just 43.8 yards per game — and just two touchdowns.

That’s the eighth-fewest yards allowed to tight ends by any NFL defense, and it’s the third-fewest touchdowns.

Dupree is JUST A GUY who can pass cover pretty good. SORRY your downplay of Dupree is not accurate. Is it frustrating to see him ridden on by the QB in a rush case cinerio,........HELL yes but it's not frustrating when he is covering a TE and keeping that TE to 4th lowest yards allowed to TE in the NFL...................

These arent the 90s steelers or the 2000s we are asking our OLB to do more and different things.. i think Tuitt should be the guy we talking about who needs to have that breakout..

This. 7 game season for Deebo: 2 on, 2 off, three PO games

I think some of you are reaching. Necessity might provide opportunity for Harrison. He might even capitalize on it I hope. But without injury he isnt getting a helmet on gameday. I dont believe there is some grand plan here and the coachibg staff has made it pretty clear.

People keep bashing Dupree on here. Go read Tomlins interview this morning on Steelers.com He basically says they are happy with both Watt and Dupree. And, that the fans need to realize outside LB's are not going to rush as much or get as many sacks as in years past. They have them covering more often and that is a HUGE reason Deebo is not playing. He said don't expect our outside LB's to get double digit sacks any more.

I am not sure I agree with him, especially since we still keep playing with only 2 DL much of the time. When you do that, you need good pass rushing outside LB's and that is what Deebo does best.

I think they need Harrison in there now, especially with Shazier being out...his energy and dedication to the sport...will allow the team to focus on the big picture...going to the Superbowl and winning! We definitely need to have him out there playing!!!! Bring back the Beast!!!!
