Steel Not A Player

Guest
10 sacks and a Pro Bowl. He'll own the team record for sacks and be a 6 time Hawaiian. If he can do that, he's in.

I can't name a player with 6 Pro Bowls, two rings, and leading their team in a major career statistic that isn't in the Hall of Fame. Can you?

And this is to say nothing of the fact that Nine Deuce has authored one of the top 10 plays in Super Bowl history.

No I don't think so. James has had a very good career with the Steelers and he's certainly an icon in Pittsburgh but the committee is not that excited about adding yet another Steeler player to Canton. He's a long shot at best and it would be years down the road if it happens. I just don't think it will.

Also add in the fact that the refs had to change the rules to actually allow what they used to call holding because Harrison was getting to the QB so easy around the end. No one did it better in their prime and before they allowed the holding on just about every play.

Yeah that 45 degree lean was hell for taller OTs. You could see the look on their faces once they got turned around and saw the QB in the dirt. You could almost hear them say, "This is some bullshit. I need help, dammit."

I don't think they changed any rules, the refs were just under orders from Roger not to call holding on Deebo or the Steelers would have never lost a game from 2008 to 2011.

They better ******* get excited cuz there's at least 5 players NOT named Harrison they already have to put in (Roethlisberger, Polamalu, Faneca, Ward and Greene). Hampton was also the best at his position for years, but the Hall is too hung up on sack numbers to give him proper consideration. Silverback should not have that problem if he plays balls out this season.

Joey Porter says the plan is to have Harrison play 25 snaps. They feel they can get the best James Harrison that way.

I think Troy, Ward, Ben, and Kevin Greene will definitely get it, at least eventually. If we win one more, Ben becomes a lock for first year. Faneca, while an excellent guard for us, will not get in. I don't think Harrison will get in either.

If Ward does not get it they should just close the place down. He changed the game to the point were they had to make a crack back block rule because he was knocking fools out. I mean, damn, players refer to it as the Hines Ward rule.

Same thing with Harrison - The NFL is all safe and sanitary now, partially because of him.

Both are HOF players - don't know if either gets in.

Faneca is an eventual lock. his grades on most site supercedes HOF type guards... while its hard for them to get in, he will be there at some point.

The next time Deebo retires they should hire him as the strength and conditioning coach.

I fully agree. As for him and his "BIG" year and he is in???? There is nothing I'd ;like to see better, in this case. BUT it just isn't going to happen. He needs 3-4 SUPER prime time seasons, to become a lock. As stated, to many steelers in the Hall of Fasme now. With so many m,ore to come.

Salute the nation

I just don't understand the "there's too many Steelers in the HOF for the committee to vote more in" argument. The Bears (26) and Packers (21) have more, and the Giants (18) have the same amount.

The guy has a super bowl high light that is actually one that will never be beat but might be duplicated. He has played on a team that won a super bowl and was a big part of the reason why. He was the defensive player of the year. He was a major factor on one of the most intimidating defenses in the league for a number of years. Harrison is a player that is known to lots of people he should be in the hall when he becomes eligible.

.

I agree. Harrison has 69.5 career sacks (as a Steeler). He also has two as a Bengal (we'll not count those). The all-time leader in sacks for a Steelers player is Jason Gildon at 77 career sacks (as a Steeler). He also had three as a Jaguar (we'll not count those).

So, if Harrison can get 8 sacks and has a dominant year... I think he would be a likely candidate for the HOF. I think that many of those voting enjoy the statement it would make to Goodell. (So would I!)

COME ON JAMES!

.

That super bowl Int will help him considerably As will the DPOY. A case could be made that Hampton deserves it, and farrier does, and Aaron smith was perhaps the best 3/4 de of an entire era, but thanks to the notoriety Harrison has gotten he is way more likely than any of those guys

from the last 15 years of players... I would expect that Faneca, Ben, Troy and Ward all join Bettis in the HOF one day... After that its more iffy.. Like I said Hampton has the pro bowls and the rep, but not the flashy stats or the public notoriety, same with Smith. Farrior just was screwed by the selection process during the majority of his career, where they shorted ILBs greatly and playing in the same conference as Lewis. the last three will have a shot when they are in the later steps of the process, like Butler was. More credence is given to former player input at that stage.

Maybe some of the new guys end up being worthy too, but then again maybe they fall off a cliff... Guys like Woodley, Wallace, and Kendrell Bell all started like gangbusters and faded quickly... Hopefully Bell and Brown don't follow that path

My opinion is this: First ballot HOF: Big Ben, Troy and Faneca. Kevin Greene will take a while. Hines Ward could take a while if ever. Man look how long it took Chris Carter to finally get in. This one will certainly take a while if it even happens. Big Snack I love to death but not going to HOF. Like Harrison, big time contributors but not going to HOF. I mean this **** does happen. You're probably too young I don't know, but we had a LB'er here in the mid 60's through mid 70's in Andy Russell who should be in but these idiots probably will never elect him. Great LB'er here. Just like Jack Ham.

I just don't think he gets in Wing. I hope I'm wrong and certainly wouldn't mind being wrong but just don't think so. You have a lot of damn good LB'ers that never got in.

Faneca is next followed by Troy as locks to the HOF. Debo will be mentioned in the same breath as Hines for the hall when it's all said and done. Once Big Ben retires, they have to consider him based on his body of work in the NFL. Got to love the players we have that can be spoken in that category for such a high esteem. Their contributions to the game speak volumes like it or don't...,Go Steelers!

Hines?

You can't be serious. Name another guy with NINE PRO BOWLS who's eligible and can't get in.

Not only is Faneca a lock, he's a first ballot inductee.

I hope you guys are right about Faneca, I think he deserves to get in. I'm just not seeing it. The Hall doesn't really want to recognize guards, and I think another thing that will hurt him is guys like Ben, Troy, and Hines, and they won't want to put that many from the same team/time frame in. If Hines doesn't get in, then it's all BS.
