I'm not sure it was out of spite and defiance. I could be wrong, but I can't recall teams lining up to sign the guy.
Unless Deebo or Steeler management talk, we'll never have all the answers as to what actually happened.

For those who have Facebook, I couldn't find it elsewhere but feel free to post another link. He was on with Colin Cowherd and he specifically asked him the difference between Tomlin and Belichick and then Brady and Ben. I can't listen to the clip in the first post since I'm at work so not sure if there is some overlap.
To summarize, Belichick is more analytical and disciplined, Tomlin is more about emotion than preparation. One thing that was interesting about the Steelers D was that he said there was often confusion about defensive calls being sent in. One group of players would be running one defense and another group would be running something different on the same play. He said it would make the players look bad when it was actually a mixup in playcalling between the coaching staff. Take it for what it's worth but can't say I'm not surprised.
He had nothing but good things to say about Ben and Brady.

So that explains why the defense is not too good
hearing this really makes me question CMT and his style of coaching. I want discipline and structure, not Club Med. Something this team seems to lack. They have all the talent in the league, but it's being wasted. How they don't have 1 or 2 more SBs with Ben, AB, Bell and that OL is frustrating.
Your correct wasnt a long list for him... the Pats and Ravens publicly said they were interested...could of been a couple others?
Pretty certain age had alot to do with the short list...
Did he really need another 3-4 paychecks that bad?

I don't think there are very many coaches who could successfully pull off the disciplined, structured style. I also don't believe there's anything wrong with Tomlin's style, expect when you hear about things like confusion. Up until they made some moves this year, the defensive coaching staff wasn't very good, and seeing how Tomlin and Haley handled the end of the New England game last year was ludicrous.
