After a fantastic 2018 season that was cut short by injures Conner has only looked like his old self for one game this year. Can he bounce back, or are injuries going to dog him for the rest of 2019?

Round 2 has great value for running backs.

Steelers were 31st in the league last year in rushing, they are 26rh right now, so the trend is upwards.

He runs too hard hard to stay healthy, we need lots of backups with him on the shelf

Definitely WR or RB with our 2nd rd pick, which ever Ben prefers

The injury bug hasn't been kind to JAMES and I do hope he heals and can help this team. The team staff would know way more than any of us but if it turns out to move on, that won't happen this active season.

Salute the nation

If we had an o-line he could run behind, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Our No. 2 running back suffered the same fate this past weekend with nowhere to run. Conner is injury prone and has had fumble issues so, he may or may not be back after his rookie contract. I suspect the Steelers will offer him something but it will be a hometown discount as they have Samuels, Snell and Edmunds waiting in the wings.

Man I am hoping this isn't the beginning of another agenda with you. is James going to be in your doghouse?

How quickly the tides turn in Coach's world. I predict a thread within the next month following a Conner 100 yard game comparing him and Bell again and how Conner is such a beast.

There are two types of guys who get injured. There are ones with never ending soft tissue injuries that happen in non contact situations. Then there are guys in brutal contact and fight to get back as soon as possible. Conner is in the second category. And if we are talking about his numbers are we talking about Juju's too?

Well if Connor is slumping,,,,,,, I guess DAVIS is too!!!

i think it's more the oline than James. They are not playing will right now. Also teams are stacked up close since we throw the ball 3 yrds downfield

I suspect that the fact that the franchise (and H.O.F.) QB being injured and ultimately going on IR by the 2nd game of the season probably has some effect on Conner's numbers. Add in the fact that the backup QB seems hell-bent on throwing the ball no more than 11 feet in the air, which brings up the LBs, and a Safety on pretty much every play - one might be impressed that he's gotten the yards he has.

The biggest issue is a new QB. That isn't a shot at MR, but it results in exactly this strategy by the opposition. This makes it harder for the OL and the running game. We are struggling to get the ball deep (for many reasons, so, again, not swiping at MR here) adn we are not attacking the middle of the field with TE's and quick slants (in part due to the box stacking). Team is using the dumps and 3 yard passes to stretch the field horizontally to loosen the box a bit. Gotta find a way to get the ball to the mid routes though.

JC is awesome and I love the pound the rock attitude he brings but with it comes ^this^.

That would require critical thinking, in which Coach is in short supply.

The fact that all 3 RB's have been injured and will all miss significant time is an indicator that they'll need to draft for that position. Connor now has a history, and will more than likely be the mark on his career. That alone should always have the Steelers drafting for RB need.

No. He’s in the injury house. I applauded Conner last season. When healthy he’s very good and much cheaper then say Bell.

However if he was a free agent in 2020 ( he’s a free agent in 2021 ) there is NO WAY I’d give him a lucrative long term deal.

He doesn’t look like the same player this year. Still fumble prone and now hurt again. Not breaking tackles like he used to and doesn’t seem to have the same explosion.

Heck yes we should be looking at backs in the 2020 draft.

Well thought out and researched thread aided by factual data backing it up.

Said by nobody

anywhere.

Would you rather I point out how easily he got dinged up as a rookie. How he failed to finish the season last year , and that he’s hurt again this season? I could point out his yards per rush sucks this season partly because he’s lost his burst of speed? And he’s fumble prone.

If you request I’ll add some factual data for those like yourself stuck on the wrong side of the bell curve.

Regardless, I don't believe the Steelers will break the bank on Conner one way or the other. He will get a good middle of the road contract, if him and his agent want to go beyond his value he will be gone like all other running backs.
