Jacoby Jones... we released Archer for this?

That's too bad. He's wasting a roster space. If he is not going to be used, he shouldn't be on the team, and there is no reason to think he will be used again this year. He's less useful than Archer was at this point.

Fully agree, at the time (and currently) I am glad we cut acher, even with the outcome of jacoby jones. NOW, jones needs cut and as you say, bring someone up or sign new person. Sometimes we think we knoiw more than the coaches / team, but maybe there is a reason beyond our control...........

Steelers | Jacoby Jones demoted

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 11:40:01 -0800

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Jacoby Jones has been demoted to the backup kick returner and third-string punt returner. WR Markus Wheaton is the top kick returner and is now the backup to WR Antonio Brown as the punt returner. Jones was benched in Week 13 after fumbling twice in the first half.

demoted?
archer was fired for less.

In Tomlins interview yesterday, it didn't sound like they were cutting him - at least not yet. He will serve as backup.

I'm now convinced Tomlin reads the papers and message boards and does the opposite of what we say, simply to show he's being his own man. So everyone talk up Jacoby and discuss how great he is and how we should keep him, and then maybe Tomlin will cut him.

And let me start by saying how impressive Jacoby is, his experience and veteran leadership are second to none.

If that were the case, Jones wouldn't have been demoted at all, Vick would have regained his number 2 status, Boykin would still be on the bench, and Cam Thomas would be starting each and every game...

Jacob is a vested veteran and since he wasn't cut today before 4 PM he is getting paid this week, more Tomlin stupidity.

From what I understand...

There wasn't a deadline to be "off the hook" for the 900k..

Once we signed him...we were vested for that amount.... right at that time.

I believe there is more to just cutting a player. The ramifications of the salary PLUS the new guy's salary, all towards the cap. As many players as SOME here want cut, we'd be in cap hell and short fielding enough players for a game. That said, I'd think we can squeeze enough out of the cap for a diffrerent player than jacoby. A player with way more upside.

then how much are the Chargers on the hook for?

He would actually save us 475K towards the cap if cut right now (don't know why they are holding on to him). We owe him absolutely nothing if cut.

Jones was horrible with the chargers and horrible with us. Not only that he has went from being just bad to potentially costing us games. There is 0 reason he should be on the team now.

Jacoby Jones-Super Bowl 47-top dawg
Great player, flashy moves. Didn't a stripper crack him over the head with a bottle? Great off field training. He can take a hit.
Tomlin if you're reading this. These are what Jacoby Jones has to offer

Perfect angry fan logic. GET HIM THE **** OFF THE TEAM. I'm sure he will be the first guy to get cut if we needed to make an injury-related addition to the team, but you're overvaluing the 53rd spot on the roster. It would feel good to cut him, but there's no one on the street that's going to help at this point except maybe Ross Ventrone...is he healthy and would he even get a hat on gameday?

I'll give Mr. Rooney a Mickey D's cheeseburger value meal, RIGHT NOW, if he cuts Jacoby by tonight...

So now we have two players that thecoaches have no faith in, who will never see playing time, who are eating up roster spots... And one of them plays a useless position to boot.....

I don't think he needs to be on the team, either, but he ain't keeping anyone off the team that is likely to produce anything more than he is likely to produce. So, I'm not sure cutting him does anything, really. Moves someone to the 53 man roster who also won't produce?

Murphy?

The other one is Vick, right? He is an absolutely terrible QB at this point, no argument there. But how can you say he will never see playing time? We've used 3 QBs already this season! To me, Tombert's insistence on having 3 QBs (when many fans want to "save" a roster spot by only keeping 2) has been further validated by what's happened this year.

what's the word on Coates anyway?

it's been a long time since I've seen his name in print.
